Greetings.
Reference to your letter numbered 13064 and dated 15 / 12 / 1959 regarding co-education.
We list below a report containing the views of the teachers and the administration in our school on the subject.
There is no doubt that co-education has its benefits and harms. Among its benefits is that it acts as an incentive that drives both female and male students to
seriousness, diligence, and progress, as each gender seeks to precede the other and excel over them.
Also, co-education can be considered one of the effective disciplinary means, as each gender tries
to appear in a better light than they are in terms of morals and habits, especially the male students, as they refine
their words and actions in front of the female students, thus training their souls on that.
Among its benefits also is that it makes the lives of boys and girls shared in their lessons and play, and this leads to curbing
the sexual inclination present in both parties.
Last but not least, it prepares a family atmosphere for both genders, creates a sense of equality between them, and instills in them
a spirit of familiarity, friendship, cooperation, and understanding, all of which have social value after the students graduate
and enter the arena of life. This is what we have actually felt in our school by applying the co-education system for a period that is not
short of time.
However, there are other aspects of co-education that should not be neglected, especially in the intermediate stage of study
particularly when students are in the stage of adolescence, the stage of mental, physiological, social, and emotional changes
that affect the student's life inside and outside the school. Some problems related to
the sexual aspect may occur, but we believe at the same time that with attention, vigilance, correct guidance, instructions,
and proper sexual education, this problem can be solved.
Furthermore, there is another problem in co-education, which is the problem of applying a single curriculum for both genders. However,
the skilled teacher can overcome this obstacle by allowing space for each individual of both
genders to progress according to their talents, abilities, and inclinations, by giving various additional assignments.
From this, we conclude that the benefits of co-education outweigh its harms. Therefore, I believe in it and favor that it begins
in primary schools and be applied in all of them. However, there are some matters that must be considered by those concerned
when applying the co-education system, and among these aspects we can briefly mention the following:
1- The age of the student in primary schools should be appropriate for their grades, so those who have exceeded the age of primary education should not be accepted in mixed primary schools.
2- Only male and female students who studied in a mixed primary school and became accustomed to mixing from a young age should be accepted in intermediate schools.
3- It is also preferable to accept in these mixed schools male and female students who are at similar intellectual
and scientific levels. This aspect can be ensured by selecting students for schools of this type through special entrance exams.
These are the points we were able to provide regarding co-education in general.
(( To be continued ))

4 - It is also necessary that the teaching staff in a co-educational school be composed of male and female teachers
so that female teachers can solve problems specific to female students.
These are the points that occurred to us regarding co-education in general.
As for our school, since co-education begins from the kindergarten and preparatory classes and continues through the various
educational stages until the fifth grade of secondary school, we do not, in fact, have any problems worth mentioning. This is with
the knowledge that the vigilance of the teachers and the administration in monitoring some aspects of the school life of male and female students is almost
necessary at all times.
