And I will give you and give them one day, and there will be good in their house even if they are a thousand dirhams.
And I <del>do not want any of the dirhams</del>, one pressed and made for them to be one of them and in
the world, as he said, do not fear him except for the one who can kill the soul, but as for
the body, they cannot kill it, and other than that, the one who can kill the soul and the
body together in Hell. As for the words of the Sages, of blessed memory, it was said in the Talmud
likewise, their end is from Hell, and they testified to their words, and I am in this world.
The world, they cannot [do] great and many things, and I command you in this
world <del>⟦illegible⟧</del> and I command whoever entered, peace be upon you, and I command
one of the disciples because you are the pride of the people of the religion, and my peace
be upon each one of you, and if God wills, I will pass at this hour in this world
without <del>⟦illegible⟧</del> upon each one of you in the world, and I command everyone,
and I command whoever enters, peace be upon you, as the prophet of blessed memory said, and peace be upon
<del>the poor</del>

These are the sons of Netzer under the wings of the Name, and this is the blessing you gave them by the merit of
the bird of the heavens
And he said, master of many deeds, mighty in power in the creation, as it is written, the wings of a dove covered with silver, etc.
To distinguish between the impure and the pure, and between the animal that may be eaten, etc.
And even though it has feathers and a crop and its gizzard is peeled and it was pure
even so, the Torah forbade a bird of prey that eats, and every bird of prey is impure
And it said regarding them: And this for you is the impure among the creeping things that creep on the earth: the weasel, the mouse, and the tortoise of its kind
This is what is said: For behold Your enemies, O Lord, for behold Your enemies shall perish; all workers of iniquity shall be scattered
And if you say, why do I need to write twice "For behold Your enemies"
rather, one corresponds to creeping things and one corresponds to impure birds and impure beasts
And if you say, these also have an aspect of purity since they have signs of purity
rather, what do you have to say, such as a camel which brings up its cud but does not have a split hoof
And if you say, since they have an aspect of purity, why does it call them Your enemies
for Rav Hisda said, what is it that is written: And they mingled with the nations and learned their deeds
as it is written: And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons
And we see that they themselves were demons and spirits and Lilit-spirits, and perhaps
because of this he calls them Your enemies, because they themselves are harmful spirits
as it is written: The boar from the forest ravages it, and the wild beast of the field feeds on it
Rav Papa son of Rav Hanin said before Rav Yosef: These words apply to living creatures
Rav Huna bar Natan asked Rav Papa: What is it that is written: And there were Seraphim
what is it that you would say, since it is written about them Seraphim who stand in the heights of heaven, I would say
it is fine, it comes to teach us
And it can be said that it is not difficult at all, for every impurity the Holy One, Blessed be He, alluded to in the Torah
You have spoken well, and because of this it is written "impure, impure" two times, one for itself and one for creeping things
And with this it will be understood what is written: A horse is a false hope for victory; nor shall he deliver any by his great strength

And thus our Sages expounded on the verse: "And Israel saw the great hand etc."
which the Lord did in Egypt."
And Rabbi Yossi said: From where [is it derived] that the Egyptians were struck with ten plagues in Egypt and on the sea they were struck with fifty plagues?
In Egypt, what does it say? "Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, 'It is the finger of God.'"
And on the sea, what does it say? "And Israel saw the great hand etc."
How many were they struck with by the finger? Ten plagues. Say now: in Egypt they were struck with ten plagues
and on the sea they were struck with fifty plagues.
Rabbi Eliezer says: From where [is it derived] that every single plague that the Holy One, Blessed be He, brought upon the Egyptians in Egypt
consisted of four plagues? As it is said: "He cast upon them the fierceness of His anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, a sending of
evil angels." 'Wrath' is one, 'and indignation' is two, 'and trouble' is three, 'a sending of evil angels' is four.
Say now: in Egypt they were struck with forty plagues, and on the sea they were struck with two hundred plagues.
Rabbi Akiva says: From where [is it derived] that every single plague that the Holy One, Blessed be He, brought upon the Egyptians in Egypt
consisted of five plagues? As it is said: "He cast upon them the fierceness of His anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble,
a sending of evil angels." 'Fierceness of His anger' is one, 'wrath' is two, 'and indignation' is three, 'and trouble' is four,
'a sending of evil angels' is five. Say now: in Egypt they were struck with fifty plagues,
and on the sea they were struck with two hundred and fifty plagues.
How many levels of good has the Omnipresent bestowed upon us!
If He had brought us out from Egypt, and had not executed judgments against them, it would have sufficed us.
If He had executed judgments against them, and had not executed them against their gods, it would have sufficed us.
If He had executed them against their gods, and had not slain their firstborn, it would have sufficed us.
If He had slain their firstborn, and had not given us their wealth, it would have sufficed us.
If He had given us their wealth, and had not split the sea for us, it would have sufficed us.
If He had split the sea for us, and had not led us through it on dry land, it would have sufficed us.
If He had led us through it on dry land, and had not drowned our oppressors within it, it would have sufficed us.
If He had drowned our oppressors within it, and had not satisfied our needs in the desert for forty years, it would have sufficed us.
If He had satisfied our needs in the desert for forty years, and had not fed us the manna, it would have sufficed us.
If He had fed us the manna, and had not given us the Sabbath, it would have sufficed us.
If He had given us the Sabbath, and had not brought us before Mount Sinai, it would have sufficed us.
If He had brought us before Mount Sinai, and had not given us the Torah, it would have sufficed us.
If He had given us the Torah, and had not brought us into the Land of Israel, it would have sufficed us.
If He had brought us into the Land of Israel, and had not built for us the Chosen House, it would have sufficed us.

With the help of God, according to our custom here in the city of Baghdad, may God protect it, and the custom of all Israel
On the eve of Yom Kippur (5599) a memorial candle is lit in the synagogue
and also lit at home, and afterwards they go to the synagogue before dark
to say the order of Kapparot as explained in the prayer books and for those who know
at the time of lighting the memorial candle they say this
formula for the elevation of the soul of the deceased as follows and such
The language of this request:
Master of all worlds, may it be Your will before You that You accept this candle that I
light in honor of the soul of (So-and-so) son of (So-and-so) that it shall be significant
before You as if I had lit it with pure olive oil, as it is said, to kindle a perpetual lamp.
And let the pleasantness of the Lord our God be upon us; and establish the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish Thou it.
And afterwards they say this verse seven times and the verse 'And let the pleasantness' once
⟦line⟧
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
The Lord was pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to make the teaching great and glorious.
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
The Lord was pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to make the teaching great and glorious.
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
The Lord was pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to make the teaching great and glorious.
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Afterwards they say this verse seven times and the verse 'And let the pleasantness' once
The soul of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost parts.
For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
The soul of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost parts.
For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
The soul of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost parts.
For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
The soul of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost parts.
And afterwards they say these Mishnayot, one chapter from Tractate Mikvaot and one chapter from Tractate
Negaim, which are the acronym for 'Neshama' (Soul), starting with the letter Nun.
There are things that raise the Mikvah and do not disqualify, disqualify and do not raise, neither raise nor
disqualify. These raise and do not disqualify: snow, and hail, and frost, and ice, and salt,
and thin mud, the stirred and the crushed; these raise and do not disqualify.
These disqualify and do not raise: water and mud that are flowing, and the preserving liquids,
and the disqualifying ones: three Logim of drawn water, and one who brings forth liquid.
These neither raise nor disqualify: other liquids, and fruit juices, and brine, and muries,
and grape-skin wine that has not yet fermented.

And already the mouth of your reward, of blessed memory, as an explanation of an effort and its meaning, or from the beginning of this volume
from the states of these 30 souls was a blessing, and we were relieved from you to the God of the God
from him <del>⟦illegible⟧</del> the state of the Mo, these were studied (....) the 3 were 7 dinars
How did he say to them? For do they not have a tongue in their mouths to express a hundred nicknames for reform?
and my volume and how much <del>was obtained</del> from the portion for himself, for because 10 ⟦line⟧ your laziness and its removal from
my vows for himself, how much from the portion for us, and how much from the portion was clear in
and in my palm how much was rich <del>dispute</del> leaving your anger and what
and that which is in it I say: for every thing he sees a calculation of a warrior and his command was as we suffered
you want the eye, and if not for your touch of your atonement, and you have for the being of the 20 from a debtor
And that which I say is a package of 72 for you another <del>occupation</del> from the portion whole for your value and from where
was the being of the touch of battles because 10 and your end for that is from the eye according to whole, so the eye traveled
1 and how much for us your suffering was sown for his being for you, how much is appropriate from the eye and from that
And may His mercy be upon you and may He heal you 7 sufferings <del>upon he sees</del> 7 as we were how and that nickname is upon the Creator
for his spirit and in your hand is generosity, he wants from you 7 as we were how and that nickname is upon the Creator
the portion for because 10 from you and what for your touch heals you 7 sufferings according to the being of the eye from its repeating
this is only upon you for 30 speech ⟦line⟧ your way for because 10 they tested you <del>for all</del> and loved if he did not evaluate you
like your wine, that the 10-10 only the being of how much from the portion for because 10 from you, O my master, how much upon
the neighbor himself, the warrior for his being, unless he sees a speech of his being upon you
your suffering because 10 dispute of the warrior did not go out, such is his being, may he heal you 7 from you
was my knowledge of his being, and how much if only 20 10 how much is a debtor
upon the good God may He see for you from Him

In all matters that occur between a person and his Creator, may He be exalted and glorified, it is necessary
for a person to hold himself accountable for what issues from him. If they are good, he should praise God,
exalted is He, and ask Him for success in increasing them. If they are otherwise, he should seek forgiveness
from God, weep for the obedience he missed, resolve to abandon returning to it, regret
what he neglected, and rectify what he missed during the period of respite before the onset of
the Abode of Recompense. As for those things that occur between him and people: if they are financial rights,
he must clear his liability of them by paying them back to their owners if they are alive, or to
their heirs if they are dead. If that is impossible for him, he should write it in his will
and have it witnessed, and intend to pay whenever he is able to do so. If he dies before payment,
God, exalted is He, will make his adversary satisfied with him on the Day of Resurrection as He wills. If they are physical injuries
or offenses against honor: if the victim is alive, he should seek his pardon and satisfy him with service or money.
If he has died, he should give charity on his behalf and seek forgiveness for him. If that is impossible for him, he should beseech God, exalted is He,
to make his adversary satisfied with him on the Day of Resurrection. As for the rights of the self, they are that he should strive to
refine his character and improve it, and employ his limbs in obedience to God, exalted is He, and restrain
the self from forbidden and disliked desires and permitted excesses. Among these
are hearing, sight, tongue, hand, foot, genitals, and the stomach. These are seven organs that one must
guard against sins. As for the eye, it should not look at anything forbidden, nor at a Muslim with a look of
scorn and contempt, nor at the faults of his fellow Muslim to discover them. As for hearing,
one should not listen to lies, backbiting, slander, obscenity, idle talk, or engaging in falsehood.
As for the tongue, it is the organ with the greatest affliction and the most corruption; if he does not restrain it with the bridle
of the Law, it will roam freely in destructive pastures. Speech is of four types: a type that is pure harm,
a type that is pure benefit, a type that has both harm and benefit, and a type that has neither harm nor benefit. As for
that which is pure harm, it is lying, backbiting, slander, false testimony, false
oaths, slandering chaste women, gloating over Muslims, cursing them, mockery,
and ridiculing them. As for that which has harm and benefit, it is superfluous speech which is
not needed for matters of his religion or his worldly life. As for that which is pure benefit, it is commanding the right
and forbidding the wrong, reading the Quran, knowledge, remembrance, and reconciliation between people.
Likewise, the rest of the limbs must be guarded against all sins and employed in obedience.

And as they were all rejoicing, as it appeared, and once the infant entered
The house and they performed the circumcision upon him, they all rejoiced and a great and mighty joy they made
And afterwards they made a great feast, as it is said, 'and he made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned'
Isaac ⟦...⟧ and he also blessed Rebecca his wife
And they said, fear not, for you shall not be ashamed, and be not confounded, for you shall not be put to shame
And food in the heart and fruit of the womb and every family, and healers for the sickness of heart and body
And they increased in joy for the child, for he is complete and tender, and this one was born

And he had already finished after the Mohel, who was gentle and between the perfect was for a name and for a name and for glory
<del>The name</del> praising and glorifying the Name, may He be blessed, all of whose works are truth and justice
And he tells the praise of the Mohel to the congregation by the gate, for truly the Mohel was
A man of valor and a hero in the work of heaven; do not be astonished at this thing that was said
About him that he is perfect, for in all his work that he did it was not heard, and the Lord will hear his voice
And he did to another after the Mohel wonders of wonders, and he told the congregation how much poverty he suffered
Until reaching this day, and now he shall lift up his head and rise higher and higher to the height of heights
And his height and his virtues shall multiply like the stars of the heavens for multitude, and like the sand on the seashore
And this man, blessed be the Lord (Shlomo Menachem), may he lengthen his days and years in goodness and pleasantness
I too, the scribe, said
And I saw, and behold, his intention was for the sake of heaven and his heart was perfect to offer a sacrifice to the Lord
He also waved his hand toward the heavens <del>⟦...⟧</del> your enemies shall be clothed with shame
And the word went out from the mouth of the king, for great is the work that he did, and who is like him

He cast his burden upon the Name, may He be blessed, and his heart hoped in the Lord, the Rock whose work is perfect

Chapter
A parable: to what can this be compared? To a man <del>who had</del> who had a son and loved him
exceedingly, and the son also loved his father with a fierce love. And it came to pass
one day, the son went to his father and saw him sitting and weeping and wailing
and shouting and groaning and complaining and weeping.
And the son trembled before his father and fell upon his father's neck and wept and said to him:
Father, my father, why do you weep?
And the father answered and said to his son: Know, my son, that days of evil have come upon us
and we cannot stand before them, for our strength has failed and our hand is shortened, and thus
no strength remains in us and we are left few in number, and our assets have gone to ruin.
And now, my son, do not fear and do not be dismayed, for there is still power in our hand
to wage war, and because we have friends who help and support us,
and these are our brothers, the House of Israel <del>who are placed in distress</del> in every place they are.
For I know faithfully that they will not abandon us nor forsake us.
And now, my son, rise up and go to these brothers of yours <del>and say to them</del> and call to them for peace,
and say to them: Awake now and be aroused to the aid of your brothers, the children of your people, who are placed in distress
and who dwell in great and bitter sorrow, for <del>the hour has arrived</del> it is a time of trouble for Jacob,
and he shall be saved from it. And the son said: Here I am, ready and prepared to go on my father's mission,
to do his will and to perform his service with a whole heart and a willing soul. And the son went
and came to his brothers and said to them: My brothers and friends, children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
listen now to my words and do not be like those who plug their ears from hearing words of supplication,
for a great trouble and a sickening evil has found our aged father and all his household
and all that belongs to him. And now, have mercy on him, for he is old and sated with agitation, and full are
his days of worry and grief and sighing.

B"H Sunday, portion of Vayishlach, 12th of Kislev, year 5668 here in Baghdad, may G-d establish it
To the honorable Sage Isaac, may his light shine, son of Mr. Aaron Joseph, may G-d preserve him
After inquiring of your welfare and all good forever, I have come to inform you that your precious letter
has reached our hands and we rejoiced in the good news, and we were very worried about your delay there until now, and behold now
we have written a response to your aforementioned letter and handed it to your brother Ezekiel, may his light shine, and he will deliver it
to your hand, and you will certainly look into it and do all that is written in it and strive to depart from there
to the road quickly and without any delay at all, for time is very
pressed and the winter is getting stronger; therefore, do not be lazy, G-d forbid, to leave
immediately, and what you wrote regarding the matter of the partnership with the Sage Ezra, may his light shine,
behold we have spoken with him about this and he is satisfied with it, but he said that
he is forced to delay there for a few days after your arrival there in order to make
an account with the people who are there and to receive the money from them and afterwards he will depart
for the road together with you, and regarding the goods in your hand, strive to sell them there
in whatever way possible, and if you cannot sell them there, bring them here with you
and since you are coming here, G-d willing, we will speak of this here with you face to face
and regarding the document in your hand from the Sage Moses, may his light shine, behold we have written to him
about this that he should pay you the money and we will settle with him here for this, and you shall collect
the money from his hand and bring it with you, and also the money of ours that is in your hand, bring it
with you and everything you can collect from our debtors there, take
from them and bring it with you, and let everything be ready with you so that you are not delayed
there because of this, and we look forward to your arrival in peace, and may the Blessed Name succeed
your way and bring you to life and to peace, Amen, thus are the words of your friend and one who loves
your peace, who seeks your good welfare always all the days

his honor that yesterday we received his precious letter dated the 28th of Iyar
last, and from it we saw his good health and we rejoiced greatly
May God continue his good health forever, Amen, may it be His will. And regarding
the business which your honor wrote to us to sell the coffee which remained in our hands
from the past year, behold yesterday we sold it at a
good price and we sent the account to your honor with the bearer of this and your honor will see
that we earned a decent sum on it, thank God. And also regarding the wool which
your honor wrote to buy for him, behold it has not yet come down from the mountains
and when it comes down we will buy for your honor according to his order. And the price of wheat
today in Baghdad is a bit expensive due to the lack of rains
but there is hope that rain will fall soon and the rates will become cheaper
with God's help. And regarding the deed which your honor sent to collect from

a week's time and we will press him until he pays
and we will send the money to your honor. And what your honor asked regarding
the matter of Reuben, behold he still stands in his rebellion and does not want
to listen to the voice of teachers, and may the Blessed Name return him to the good path.

6. A story of a certain man who used to earn from work
every single day no less and no more than two dinars
and he would spend one dinar every day on his sustenance and the sustenance
of his wife and his sons, and the second dinar he would throw into the sea
every single day, and he did so for many days until there came
to him Elijah the Prophet, remembered for good, and said to him: Why do you
throw the dinar into the sea? He said to him: My lord, I will tell you,
the one dinar that I eat, I am paying my debt,
and the second dinar that I throw into the sea, I am lending it.
Elijah the Prophet, remembered for good, said to him: And do you throw
the dinar into the sea and say "I am lending it"? He said to him:
Yes. Elijah the Prophet, remembered for good, said to him: If so,
show me the place where you throw the dinar. He went with him
and showed him the place, and there was a certain tree on the seashore.
Elijah the Prophet, remembered for good, said to him: Tie the dinar
in your garment and go up to the top of this tree and throw it into the sea.
When you see a certain fish opening its mouth towards you, throw it inside
its mouth. And he did so, and Elijah the Prophet, remembered for good, went his way.
And that man continued to do so for many days until that
fish died and the sea cast it out onto the dry land. And a fisherman came and found
that fish and saw it was a large and fat fish, and he took it and brought it
to the market to sell it, and that same man came to buy a fish.

With the help of God, RAMB
However, I saw that the words of this man are not honest at all
<del>And because of this I told him not to speak of this matter any more</del> (and among the things)
<del>For I have no desire to hear his words of vanity</del>
And after this I heard from the mouths of other people that this man goes about as a slanderer
And spoke perversely about the Rabbi, may his light shine, therefore it is an evil thing and a
Ugly deed which should not be done in Israel, and also since the aforementioned man, may his light shine, after he heard these things
From other people who are more faithful to me than he is
Became very and greatly angry with me because I spoke harshly with him
And he made himself as if he were very offended by me
And I saw that it is good, and "thou shalt surely rebuke thy neighbor and not bear
Sin because of him," therefore I spoke straightforward words to him, for it is not a good
Thing that I heard about him, that he spoke perversely about the great Rabbi
Aforementioned, and all the more so if he is a Cohen, for "the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law
At his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of Hosts," and how did he have the heart to speak
Error about a righteous and upright man like him, whose name goes
From one end of the world to the other in wisdom and in fear of sin
And how was he not afraid for his soul, for the coal of the righteous burns, and whoever
Profanes the honor of the wise, there is no healing for his wound, and anyone who despises a Torah scholar
Has no healing for his wound
And all the more so if he is a Cohen, who needs to be more careful in this than any
Person in the world, as it is written: "But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept
The charge of My sanctuary, etc., and they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the common,
And cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean."
And likewise I warned him not to continue any further to speak perversely about any
Person in the world, and all the more so about a Torah scholar and God-fearing person like him
For this is the way of fools who do not know the way of the Lord

And there was with this Khawaja David a servant from our community, Yosef Shmuel,
a resident of Baghdad. He was afflicted with smallpox, and his whole body began to flow with blood,
yet despite that, he did not stop his work for a single day, but rather endured, though the world
turned against him and his condition deteriorated. It was necessary for the aforementioned Yosef to be a man of conscience
and to provide for him at that time. But Yosef refused at that time and did not grant
him anything he requested. Khawaja David was ashamed by those words,
since he knew what he had with him, and whatever the case, he gave him only a very
paltry, small amount. Yosef began to plead with him and say to him, "O Khawaja David, you
are lacking in goodness; you have broken the heart of an orphan and a poor man, may God mend your heart."
But he did not accept it from him. At that time, Rabbi Shlomo
Laniado, our teacher and master, may his light shine, had come up from Baghdad and stayed with the aforementioned Khawaja David in the garden.
It was Friday, and Yosef sat weeping and lamenting his condition and what had happened to him.
He said to him, "O my master, I want you to write him a paper so that he might have mercy on that
orphan." He said to him, "O my son, I do not know how to write to him, nor do I know his tongue,
but you go to him and say to him, 'O Khawaja David, the Haham says to you: Come, eat lunch
with us today.'" So Yosef went and told him, and Khawaja David came and ate and drank,
praise be to God. Then the Haham said to him, "O Khawaja David, how much will you give to this
orphan?" He said to him, "O my master, I will give him a riyal." The Haham said to him, "O my son,
this riyal is not enough for him; give him five riyals, and God will compensate you."
But he did not accept it from him and said, "I will not give him more than one riyal." The Haham became angry
and said to him, "O Khawaja David, give him five riyals and do not break his heart."
But he did not accept, threw the riyal, and left. Then the Haham said to him, "Go, O Khawaja David,
may God afflict your body with the disease of smallpox just as you afflicted the body of this orphan."
Not many days passed before smallpox sores appeared on the body of Khawaja David,
and blood, pus, and worms began to flow from his body, and he died of that disease. We ask God
for safety, forgiveness, and atonement. Amen.

And the father who had from his wife a daughter in the house all her life she did not know
anything and did not go out from the house, and every day the girl of the
house would go bring her bread, and she and her mother ate from God's grace
and from the hand of God the Generous, just as King David, peace be upon him, said:
He gives bread to all flesh, for His mercy endures forever. And this girl stayed
with her mother and became twenty years old while she was sitting in the house and did not
know anything of the world and knew nothing but her Lord, Glory be to Him and Exalted.

any of the human beings; and she saw people coming and going, and people walking,
and someone shouting to sell something, saying: 'To you, O Lord, O Generous.'
May his end be good
And she saw a group of women entering a neighbor's house while they were beating drums and ululating.
This girl said: 'What is this thing, and why are
these women entering?' They said to her: 'These are entering to propose to the daughter of so-and-so
so they may marry her to the son of so-and-so.' And she began watching them and she was crying.

This medicine is specifically for one who has severe ophthalmia in their eye -
Ophthalmia is in its first stage when the ophthalmia is not fixed in the eye; it
is a disease that comes in the last minute when ophthalmia enters the eye, it comes
just as ophthalmia comes from the wind that enters the eye, specifically in the eye
which is weak, and in this case ophthalmia comes in a single hour
and the eye becomes red, and in this hour severe pain comes
in the eye; in this case the medicine must be prepared.
And if there is ophthalmia in the eye that comes little by little, this medicine
does not benefit at all as much as it benefits for the ophthalmia that comes
per hour.

Every day prepare for it from the crushed medicine from the morning
and leave it for him in the middle of the eye, and leave it as it is until the night; in
this night prepare for him wheat flour as we said at first, and in
the morning wash for him with warm water and leave it for him as we said.
And if there is in his eye ⟦illegible⟧ the medicine as we said in the morning

nor redness, and wash the eye with warm water.

For because every crown from the price takes a reward and an increase to the thousand, because

this degree from a thousand it was not confirmed by it, and for that we made the return with an increase in the price

mere satisfaction voids the option and the return due to a defect its evidence is one just as

and for that it is permitted to sell the absent item and in the present case it is treated as the absent item
regarding the lack of seeing so for that his disposal is valid likewise

With the help of God, I write these lines so that they may be
evidence that there will always be union and love between us
and that neither death nor anything else shall separate us; rather we shall be
one soul in one body. And as the wise man said,
the soul returns to its Lord, so it returns to
its original place. Likewise we, my brother, no matter how much we are
far from each other, the soul is one and the body
is one. For this reason I write these lines so that they may be
a remembrance between me and you for all time, and as long as
I live I shall not forget you, my dear brother, for you are in my heart
and engraved in my conscience, and it is impossible that your memory should be erased
from my mind ever. This is what I must do
towards you, my dear brother, so accept them from me as a gift
simple, for I have nothing to give you as a gift other than
these lines which are a precious treasure to me.
And I hope from God Almighty that He will bring us together soon
and we shall be happy with one another as we were
in the past and more. Do not cut off your letters from me
so that my mind may be at ease concerning you, my dear brother.
And I also will not cut off my letters from you.
Other than that, I give my greetings to all the family and relatives,
one by one, great and small, and especially to the dear mother,
and kiss her hands for me and ask her for her satisfaction and prayers.
Deliver my greetings to my brother Kadouri, his mother and his brothers,
and my aunt Lulu, her husband and her children, and the house of my uncle Reuven,

A story that happened in Babylon
There was a man in Babylon named Joseph, and he was a very great rich man, as it is said
regarding Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, that it was said of them that there was no blemish in them
And he had one son named Nathan, who was of beautiful form and beautiful appearance ⟦and very wise⟧
And his father loved him with an exceedingly strong love, and would not let him go out
from the doorway even a single step until he grew up and was about twenty
years old, and he was proficient in Scripture, Mishnah, Talmud, Laws, and Legends
And he would sit in his room all day long and engage in Torah day and night
And he did not know any person in the world; even the people of his household did not
see him except for the time when he was eating and drinking, and his father would
make a great feast every year on the day he entered into the Covenant
of Circumcision, and he would invite all the great men of the city, the sages, the princes, and the deputies
And they would eat and drink and rejoice with a good heart. And it happened one day that Joseph grew old,
advanced in years, and his days drew near to die, and he called his son Nathan and said to him, My son,
Behold now, I am old and grey, and I do not know the day of my death, and now listen to my voice
to all that I command you; do not turn right or left from all these things
which I command you today. Know, my son, that I have great wealth
and it is very vast; silver and gold and merchandise and precious stones and pearls
and all kinds of delicacies and all precious vessels such as there were none like them for any
of the princes who were before me; and furthermore, I have one treasure hidden in the ground
that no eye has ever seen, and I am not revealing it to any creature
in the world except for you alone; and be very careful that you do not reveal it to any
person in the world, not even to your wife or your children, except in a time of extreme
need; and this shall be the sign for you: that you shall go to such-and-such a place and dig three cubits into the ground
and you will find there a copper door; open it, and go down the steps, and you will find

And the most important words I have from you even in the matter, do not complete my words without him
In the he shall be in the name of all and this answer was all truth
And he shall not deny any ⟦...⟧ letter of it, that matter in the mouth of David
To which he mentioned that all of that happened ⟦...⟧ and he spoke words from behind a veil
He will not have for me that thing unless ⟦...⟧ he said for it is sweet

Or Yom Kippur was on a Friday and that day there was thunder and rain in Kirkuk
⟦...⟧
We intended for that, we were terrified of it for fear that it would only be our judgment
And we fell and we stumbled and we entered the house of Khawaja Yusuf and we fell from
The top of the stairs until that day I had no feeling or rest
What is my greatness? We fell under the rain and the stairs were above me
And a great deal of our things were lost, words that cannot be limited
And I was sleeping without a cover and I did not feel anything until
That rain was descending upon us like gutters, so we arose
Afraid and terrified, and it was night and the darkness covered the eyes
And there was a good answer for him
⟦...⟧
A sign of atonement on a Friday and another atonement on a Friday also, peace be upon him

And he was hidden on the next day, his burial, and from week to week that dead person passes
It was mentioned the honor of his name Khawaja Eliyahu Hezekiah Al-Amam, may God have mercy
On him and have mercy on his burial, and he died on the second day, Yom Kippur
From that year and he was hidden on that Friday

It is said of you that
this day is like the day on which the Torah was given, and this day was made for him like the day of the giving [of the Torah]
And these are the things spoken of in this book and these are the deeds that they did
therein they did not know what they were doing except that they are committed and in their hands and in the hands of their children
one to another, and they observe this custom like the day of Purim
every year like the day of Purim and the sending of portions one to another
and gifts to the poor like actual Purim - and this is also a day of feasting and joy
like actual Purim, and one cannot write or sign or do work on this day
but rather he shall be free from all work and be engaged in Torah and commandments and in good
deeds for this day is a holy and exalted day for on it this great miracle was performed
which the Lord did with us, and therefore every person is obligated to rejoice on it and to gladden
his household and to give charity to the poor according to his ability and also shall say the complete Hallel
with a blessing on this day - and shall also say on it "For the Miracles" in the Grace After Meals
and in the Eighteen Benedictions prayer in the manner they say it on the Purim of Mordechai and Esther
And may it be the will before
the God of the heavens and the God of the earth that He perform for us miracles and wonders as He did for us
in those days at this time Amen, so may it be His will Amen Selah
And afterwards he shall say this Psalm from Psalms: A Psalm, a song at the dedication of the House of David. I will extol Thee,
O Lord, for Thou hast raised me up, and hast not suffered mine enemies to rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried unto Thee, and Thou didst heal me; O Lord, Thou hast brought
up my soul from the nether-world; Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise unto the Lord, ye His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for a life-time; at evening weeping may come to lodge, but in the morning there is a song of joy.
Now I had said in my security: 'I shall never be moved.' Thou, Lord, of Thy favour hadst established my mountain as a stronghold; Thou didst hide
Thy face; I was affrighted. Unto Thee, O Lord, did I call, and unto the Lord I made supplication: 'What profit is there in my blood, when I go down
to the pit? Shall the dust praise Thee? shall it declare Thy truth? Hear, O Lord, and be gracious unto me; Lord, be Thou my helper.'
Thou didst turn for me my mourning into dancing; Thou didst loose my sackcloth, and gird me with gladness; so that my glory may sing praise to Thee,
and not be silent; O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto Thee for ever -
On the day of the Holy Sabbath
A: This day is like the day of the Holy Sabbath for this day is holy to the Lord your God
do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength, and also on this day you shall say
the Great Hallel

Q 18
And the second is wine (khamar),
which comes from grapes. In the portion of Shelach Lecha (the Torah of the Land), if it does not match the text
mentioned above, the proof for it is that the Sages called it 'wine' from 'the blood of grapes'.
And likewise, His statement, may He be exalted, 'and the blood of the grape thou drankest as wine', as it is said, 'for it is blessed', he inferred
the existence of this named thing by the divine text. As for the 'shekhar' mentioned in the chapter of the Nazir, which is
with a 'dal', it is the drink extracted from things other than grapes, such as date wine or
raisins, and what is extracted from wheat, barley, honey, and other things. And it was forbidden
to the Nazir as well, just as he was forbidden from drinking wine which is the juice of grapes.
Indeed, the distinction and differentiation between them was legislated as it is clear in
the holy text. This is because the drinking of wine is among the laws of the sacrifice in
its being a libation. And the measure of the libation is a quarter of a hin for a lamb, and a third of a hin
of wine for a ram, and of wine half a hin for a bull, as it is explained in
another place. As for 'shekhar', it is forbidden to use it in the Sanctuary and that which is offered therein
as a sacrifice. And the priests were forbidden from drinking it at the time of their entry into the Holy place to serve the Lord of the worlds,
as mentioned in Parashat Shemini: 'Do not drink wine or strong drink' etc. For this reason,
it is not permitted to offer any of it on the altar, as mentioned: 'any leaven or any honey,
you shall not burn any of it as an offering made by fire to the Lord.' And 'shekhar' can be from honey, as we mentioned
that honey is among the things from which 'shekhar' is extracted, and for that reason it was forbidden.
As for the aspect of similarity between 'khamar' (wine) and 'shekhar', it is that both of them intoxicate the one who drinks them.
Since 'shekhar' intoxicates like wine, it is called 'shekhar', because the word 'shekhar' is derived
from 'sukr' (intoxication), which is the loss of reason, raving in speech, and bad actions.
And it is not hidden from you that the word 'shekhar' is written with a right-hand 'Shin' and its dot is on top
on the right. This indicates that it is from 'sukr', which is the opposite of reason and understanding.

Sermon for Beshalach, Kafar
From the teacher Rabbi Belai son of Joseph son of Rabbi Ezra, of blessed memory, Cohen <del>emissary</del> from the sages of Jerusalem
May it be rebuilt and established, the year 5603 (1843), from the book of sermons of Al-M. Tzedakah
And there was a sermon on the portion of 'Vayehi' concerning Exodus by Al-M. B.R. Cohen
above, and he said an interpretation of the verse: 'And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying,
God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here...'
and so the Rabbi would say regarding Joseph, peace be upon him, from the book of Al-M. Tzedakah
in the sermon for Vayechi. And may God, blessed be He, grant a sermon for the portion of Beshalach from the days
in the sermon for Vayechi as we promised you at that time, and from the sermon of Al-M. Tzedakah
in order, mentioning that verse: 'And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not
by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said: Lest peradventure the people repent
when they see war, and they return to Egypt.' He said: O community, it is known
to the world that a person, if he travels for even one hour, will be
disturbed in mind, not knowing what will happen to him; how much more so should he be pressed, as
Solomon, peace be upon him, said: 'Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth
darkness.' He means to say that wisdom is the Torah and it is the light,
and so King David, peace be upon him, said: 'Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.'
