It has been decided to open two sessions in Baghdad for male and female teachers of the
English language in primary, intermediate, and secondary schools, in cooperation with
Baghdad College and the American Language Institute, starting from July 1 until August 14, 1965
for Baghdad College, and from July 31 until August 28, 1965, for the American
Language Institute, in addition to a seminar for interested male and female inspectors of
primary schools, and male and female English language teachers in primary and secondary
teacher training institutes, at Baghdad College starting from July 12, 1965, for a period of
(3) weeks.
The conditions for participation in these sessions are as follows:
1 - The applicant (male or female) must be among those who are actually teaching English,
endorsed by the District Directorate of Education. Out of the applicants,
(140) male and female teachers and (140) male and female instructors will be nominated for the
Baghdad College session, and (50) male and female teachers and instructors for the
American Language Institute session.
2 - Preference will be given in matters of promotion, transfer, administrative advancement, and
study fellowships in their field of specialization to those who successfully pass this session.
3 - Participants in these sessions and the seminar will be provided with free housing
only in the dormitories; the Ministry of Education will not bear any other expenses for them.
4 - Applications for those wishing to join these sessions should be submitted to the Directorate
of General Technical Affairs - Curricula and Books Department, endorsed by their school administration
and the District Directorate of Education.
5 - Applications will be accepted until Thursday, June 10, 1965.
Therefore, please notify the male and female teachers and instructors concerned
and submit the applications of those interested to us through the school administration after
confirming that the applicant is teaching the English language.

one-year study grants to Iraqi male and female students expected to graduate from preparatory school this
year, to study and gain experience in some American public schools on the one hand and to live with some American
families on the other. Accordingly, the American authorities will bear the costs of accommodation, living, and pocket money
upon their arrival in the United States. The student himself shall bear, if able to do so, his international travel expenses
round trip; otherwise, the American authorities will also bear his travel expenses.

who wish to enjoy one of these fellowships and who are expected to graduate from the secondary school stage at the end of
this year, provided they have high averages in their school examinations during this year

and school activity, and are characterized by literary courage, a good reputation, strong character, good conduct,
and intelligence, provided that the approval of their guardians for their nomination is obtained and sent to us with their school documents for the fourth
and fifth grades for all subjects, while providing us with a summary of their activity and behavior if possible, to enable us to select
the required number as quickly as possible.

1- Absences of students detained and held for political reasons are considered a legitimate excuse, provided that the duration
of their absences does not exceed more than 60 school days, based on the decision of the Council of Education notified to you by the letter of the Directorate
of General Education No. 17386 dated 14/3/961.
2- The annual average for students whose detention and holding period does not exceed sixty school days shall be the result of
adding the first semester average and the mid-year average divided by two. As for students whose absences exceed
sixty school days, they shall be considered as having failed in their class and shall be barred from taking the final exam or the general
exam in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (b) of Article 46 of the Secondary Schools Regulation No. 54 of 1954.
3- There is no objection to the participation of detained or held students in the final and general examinations if the
competent authorities allow them to be sent under guard to their examination centers, taking into account what was stated in paragraphs 1 and
2 above.
