Replacing the series of Arabic Grammar books in primary, intermediate
and secondary schools with My Language and Preparatory and Secondary Grammar books does not mean not benefiting from
these books, and since My Language and Preparatory and Secondary Grammar books have been distributed to the students
we see no harm in keeping them with the students to benefit from them as additional study references
alongside the presence of the Arabic Grammar as a textbook in their hands. As for the balance
available in the book stores, it can be distributed to the libraries of primary,
intermediate, and secondary schools in proportions that can be used as references.
Please take necessary action and inform us.

Page 21

Arabic Language Grammar Curriculum for Intermediate Education
For the 1965-1966 Academic Year
General Guidelines:
1 - We should understand that language rules are a means to protect expression from error. From here, all attention should be focused in
teaching grammar on the practical, applied side. As for memorizing the rule alone without great interest in its applied side, it does not lead
us to the intended purpose. It is clear that the rules of syntax were not fundamentally established except for us to avoid solecisms when we speak,
write, or read.
2 - The interesting topic that attracts the student with its ideas, images, and emotions is the basis upon which we should rely in teaching
grammar. This is because grammar by its nature requires strenuous mental movement because it is based on analysis, reasoning, and deduction. From
here, we must help the student to lighten the burden of this study which exhausts his mind, with interesting applications that fall within the scope of his experiences.
3 - A rule may have more than one side and it is necessary that we draw the student's attention to it, and it may be difficult for the teacher to gather all
these sides in one text without obvious affectation. Here appears an urgent need to multiply the texts.
4 - In order for the correct linguistic habit to be formed, we must increase oral exercises based on organized foundations of imitation
and repetition. The student who draws inspiration from the rule and summons it in his mind with struggle is a student who lacks the correct linguistic
habit. In our ancient and contemporary literary history, there are many examples that the correct linguistic habit alone was sufficient
to express without solecism or error. It is clear that we cannot improvise eloquent speech characterized by linguistic correctness without the rule becoming habitual
in its practical applications.
5 - The teacher should not burden himself and his students by addressing side details that are not directly related to the main rule.
Our mission in teaching the rule ends with reaching the drawn goal, which is protecting the tongue and the pen from error.
6 - Increasing application is what makes grammar lessons fruitful. Application should be oral and written, and the
teacher's attention should be focused on both together as follows:
A - Oral Application:
1 - It is the most useful means for observing grammar to become a habit for students. From here, it should be noted in every one of its sessions. And in
lessons where the teacher addresses more than one rule or more than one side of it, it is imperative not to move from one rule to another or
from one side of it to another except after sufficient application on the previous one, whether it was a rule or one of its sides.
2 - It is advisable for students to sometimes read texts with integrated ideas suitable for applying the studied rules.
3 - It is also advisable that some of the prescribed literary texts that students have studied in non-grammar sessions be taken as material for oral
application.
B - Written Application:
1 - In written application, one should stay away from fabricated sentences or truncated texts. It is very beneficial for literary texts
distinguished by their literary beauty to be the material for written application because in that there is a double benefit; alongside practicing correct structures, the
students practice beauty of expression.
2 - It is good for students to feel an independent personality in solving written exercises without the participation or help of the teacher. And after
the notebooks are corrected, the teacher returns with his students to the exercises again so that they can see their errors and their corrections in light of his directions.
