Some of the institution's members have discontinued their subscriptions in the last three years,
but others, known for their constant chivalry and zeal, have taken their place. One of the
most difficult things the committee faced in its project was the problem of finding a house for the institution, and no doubt
the supporters of the project will be very pleased to know that this problem is about
to be solved because Sir Elly Kadoorie, the man of great benevolence towards
Iraqis in general, has graciously donated and issued his noble order to establish a suitable house to be built
specifically to house these innocent blind people. It is hoped that this
house will be ready early next year.
Then a brief word I record here, despite my knowledge that the ladies of the committee,
due to their humility, do not wish for this, is that the quiet and fruitful work carried out by
the committee was one of the glorious deeds that the Iraqi woman has the right to be proud of.
If we try to count the achievements of the Iraqi woman, let us count this humanitarian work
at the forefront of them.

The Blind Project is on its way
We did not go far when we placed firm hope in the success of this project,
unique in its kind. Here are the supporters, still showing compassion for this
humanitarian institution. And here are the female supporters, still looking with gazes of mercy toward the House of
the Blind, where the visually impaired compensates for the light of his eyes with the care of those in charge
of his refinement and education, and where there are no tears to shed, nor sighs to repeat.
The institution house has made tangible progress; for after the number of students
did not exceed twenty, it has today approached forty [and this is double the number].
And after their lessons were superficial, they have today begun receiving organized lessons in
music, chanting, sports, reading, and weaving of various kinds, and repairing
chairs, etc.
Among the reasons for the institution house's pride is that it participated in the Agricultural-
Industrial Exhibition held in Baghdad last April. Its participation was a
brilliant success. It suffices you to know that His August Majesty the King admired this
project greatly and praised the House completely after witnessing the products
of the blind and after His Majesty heard them playing touching musical melodies. Then there is the
generous public, which was eloquent in its praise for this charitable work, behind which
nothing is desired except to alleviate the woes of a wretched group afflicted by fate in the most precious thing they possess: the light
of their eyes.

An Appeal
To the Lovers of Suffering Humanity
The sincere chivalry and well-known zeal that the Committee of the Home of Solace for the Blind recognizes in you
has encouraged it to explain to you that the influx of blind children
in the capital is increasing. Since our project was established
to alleviate the woes of these afflicted people, it is not fair to reject their refuge.
Thus, our institution has become in need of expanding its affairs and completing the means of comfort
within it for those belonging to it who have been afflicted by fate with the most precious thing they possess—their eyes! Therefore, we raise
this appeal to you and to those around you who possess zeal and fervor, hoping
that you will spread fruitful publicity among your friends about our institution, in the hope that those men
and women who have not previously participated will join, thereby performing a righteous deed
towards suffering humanity.
As for the monthly subscription, it consists of 75 fils or more, depending on
capability - may you remain supporters of the afflicted.
