Parshat Vayechi
⟦illegible⟧
And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head
of Ephraim, it displeased him; and he held up his father's hand, to remove it
from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. And Joseph said unto
his father: 'Not so, my father; for this is the first-born; put thy right hand upon his head.'
And his father refused, and said: 'I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become
a people, and he also shall be great; howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he,
and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.'
And he blessed them that day, saying: 'By thee shall Israel bless, saying:
God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh'; and he set Ephraim
before Manasseh. And Israel said unto Joseph: 'Behold, I die;
but God shall be with you, and bring you back unto the land of your fathers.
Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand
of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.' And Jacob called unto his sons, and said:
'Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the end
of days. Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel
your father. Reuben, thou art my first-born, my might, and the first-fruits of my strength; the excellency
of dignity, and the excellency of power. Unstable as water, have not thou the excellency; because thou wentest up
to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it; he went up to my couch. Simeon and Levi
are brethren; weapons of violence their kinship. Let my soul not come into their council;'

The text of the prayer that the early Hasidim used to recite -
And this prayer is said at the time of dawn before the prayer -
O God, You who are One and Unique in Your essence and in Your attributes
Whom thought cannot describe, nor can the mind grasp Your majesty
You are the one who created the entire world and governed it with wisdom
And with a power that cannot be grasped, and with a mercy that is infinite, and with the beauty
Of a governance that does not change nor vary forever and ever

Some scholars have mentioned in books of wisdom regarding the matters that
A person ought to do throughout all his time in his worldly life
And that he should always be in a state of mental presence and in reflection on the matters
That pertain to his world and to his hereafter, and in the salvation of his soul in
The abode in which he resides, and that he should be in complete presence
And that he should always employ vision, thought, examination, and investigation
With intellect, understanding, and acumen
⟦illegible⟧
And know, my son, that all that a person ought to do
In his worldly life is to always be in presence and in reflection
In all that he does, in all matters of religion and of the world
And in dealings, and in all that is with him in his home and in
His state, and in all that he has with people, and in all that he has
With his Lord, may He be exalted, and in all that he has with himself

And the aforementioned Rabbi replied to me that there was already an incident involving the great
Rabbi, our teacher Rabbi A. Yitzhaki, of blessed memory, and they found inside the stomach
of an ox a whole needle as is its way, and it also extended toward the heart
and there was a drop of blood on it, and the heart was also perforated opposite
the needle, and the aforementioned Gaon declared it treif (non-kosher) by law since
there is a drop of blood on it and the heart is perforated opposite it, and the words
of the Kereti u-Peleti refer to a needle found inside the heart
itself, and specifically when found inside the heart itself and specifically
when found inside the heart itself is when we say that the heart
is what produced it, but when found inside the stomach
and it is stuck into the heart, it certainly came from the stomach to the heart
and it is completely treif and one should not question him at all

May Hashem rule all nations under Your word always and walk in the ways of Hashem
And we are Your people and the sheep of Your pasture, we will give thanks to You forever and tell
Your praise from generation to generation, for Your name is called upon us and we are Your people
And Your covenant we have not forgotten. Blessed are You, Hashem, who is lauded with many praises
Blessed be the name of His glorious kingdom forever and ever
⟦...⟧
May it be Your will before You, Hashem, my God and God of my fathers, that You lead me
to peace and direct my steps to peace and support me to peace and guide me to my desired
destination for life, joy, and peace; and save me from the hand of every enemy and lurker
on the way, and from all kinds of calamities that occur in the world
And send blessing and success in all the work of my hands, and grant me grace and kindness
and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see me, and bestow good kindnesses upon me
and hear the voice of my supplication, for You are a God who hears prayer and supplication
Blessed are You, Hashem, who hears prayer
But I, through Your great kindness, will enter Your house; I will bow down toward Your holy temple in awe of You
Hashem, lead me in Your righteousness because of my watchful foes; make Your way straight before me
For there is no sincerity in their mouths; their heart is destruction; their throat is an open grave
with their tongues they speak smooth words. Condemn them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels
Cast them out for the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You
But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever shout for joy, and spread Your protection over them, that they may exult
in You, those who love Your name. For You, Hashem, bless the righteous; You encompass him with favor as with a shield
To the Chief Musician upon Gittith, a Psalm for the sons of Korah
How lovely are Your tabernacles, Hashem of Hosts! My soul longs and even faints
for the courts of Hashem; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God
Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay
her young—even Your altars, Hashem of Hosts, my King and my God
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they will still be praising You. Selah. Blessed is the man whose strength is
in You, in whose heart are the highways. Passing through the Valley of Weeping, they make it a place of springs
the early rain also covers it with blessings. They go from strength to strength; every one of them appears before God
in Zion. Hashem God of Hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah

Parshat Vayechi
It is permitted for one riding an animal
on Shabbat within the city, even if there is an Eruv,
to return the animal to its place, provided that
he did not go outside the boundary. And if he went outside the boundary,
it is forbidden for him to return. And so too, it is permitted for a rider
to leave the city to stroll in the orchards
outside the city, provided that he does not go outside
the Shabbat boundary. And so too, it is permitted for a rider
to go out to meet a groom or to meet a minister
or ruler, and to run before him and to gladden
even on Shabbat and Yom Tov. And it is permitted
to run before him and to dance and to clap hands
even on Shabbat. And so too, it is permitted for a rider
(counting) to stroll in the orchards of Gentiles
and to smell myrtles and roses and types of spices
and to recite the blessing over them "Who gives a good scent
to fruits" (or herbaceous) spices. And it is permitted
for a rider to go outside the Shabbat boundary
for the sake of a Mitzvah, such as to circumcise
the infant, or for the redemption of the son, or to welcome
his teacher's presence or his father's presence or his mother's presence,
or to go to a Mitzvah feast, and anything similar
to this, it is permitted to go even outside the Shabbat
boundary, provided that he returns to his place on that same day.

And this is the question asked of me by the perfect and complete sage
the honorable Rabbi Jacob, may his light shine forever and ever, Amen
regarding the case of Reuben who died and left a wife and children
and left a large estate, and there was found in the hand of Simeon
a promissory note against the aforementioned Reuben for the sum of one hundred gold pieces
and the time for repayment of the note had passed several years ago
and Simeon claims that he was never paid anything
from the aforementioned debt, and the widow claims perhaps it was paid
during her husband's lifetime or he waived the debt for him
and since her husband died, she should not have to pay except through an oath
and Simeon does not want to swear, and since he does not swear
he does not collect. May our teacher instruct us, with whom is the law?
Answer
We learn in the chapter "All who Swear," Rav Nachman said in the name of Shmuel
Anyone who collects from the property of orphans shall not collect except through an oath
and even if the borrower died during the lender's lifetime, and even if the borrower
admits to the note that it was not paid, and even if the orphans are minors
and even if the orphans are adults, and even if the orphans say
we know that our father did not pay anything, even
so, he shall not collect except through an oath. What is the reason?
Perhaps he paid and he had a receipt and it was lost etc.
And the Rif, of blessed memory, wrote in his Laws: and where there are witnesses
who say we know of him that he did not pay it, he does not need to swear
because a person does not remember every matter of the court etc.
And behold

I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him,
my father's God, and I will exalt Him. The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is His name.
Pharaoh's chariots and his army He cast into the sea; and his elite officers
were drowned in the Red Sea. The deeps covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; You send forth Your fury, it consumes them like stubble.
By the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up; the flowing waters stood up like a heap;
the deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy said, 'I will pursue,
I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'
You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
Who is like You among the gods, O Lord? Who is like You, majestic
in holiness, awesome in praises, doing wonders? You stretched out Your right hand, the earth swallowed them.
In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength to Your holy habitation.
The peoples have heard, they tremble; anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia.
Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; the leaders of Moab, trembling seizes them;
all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. Terror and dread fall upon them;
by the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone, until Your people pass over, O Lord,
until the people pass over whom You have purchased. You will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance,
the place, O Lord, which You have made for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.
The Lord shall reign forever and ever. For the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went
into the sea, and the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the sons of Israel
walked on dry land in the midst of the sea. And Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took
the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing.
And Miriam answered them, 'Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.'

As it is said: Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering
And they sought from me a matter, do and I will go for myself
It is said, and let it all be done according to your will, do not do it
For the way of flesh and blood is not so; he asks ⟦...⟧
from a person a small thing ⟦with a pleasant countenance⟧ he gives to him
And if he asked from him a great thing ⟦he gives to him⟧
with a frowning countenance, but the Holy One, Blessed be He, is not
so; whether he asked a small thing
or a great thing, with a pleasant countenance, as it is said:
And they shall take for Me an offering from every man whose
heart moves him, you shall take My offering.
Another explanation: "And they shall take for Me an offering," as it is written: "For I have given you good instruction,
My Torah, do not forsake it." Do not forsake
the purchase that I have purchased for you. You have a man
who takes a purchase, it has gold but no silver,
it has silver but no gold, but the purchase
that I gave to you has silver, as it is said: "The words of
the Lord are pure words, silver refined in a furnace
on the ground, purified seven times." And it has gold,
as it is said: "More desirable than gold, even much fine gold."
You have a man who purchases fields and vineyards,
perhaps he does not purchase silver and gold? Therefore it is said:
"For I have given you good instruction, My Torah, do not forsake it."

M"V and explained that there is no doubt about the portion of his brother that he gave as a gift, for this is obvious to me
that he cannot extract it from his brother's hand, as it is no better than one who gives a gift who cannot retract,
and here it says that before they divided they can retract, and even if this one and that one wanted and it was acquired from them
they cannot retract.
He further wrote a second answer as Maran of blessed memory wrote –
Shnir as Rashi of blessed memory wrote Midrash Shir
Or as it appears to me and not a cluster of grapes do not soften and a vineyard –
and when they are unripe that the cluster of grapes shall ripen every body as one and a vineyard
every single body, and a parable for the body of the Assembly of Israel for every
and every soul of Israel is supervised like this of Rashi, peace be upon him,
A parable of a king who entered a province and many legions were with him,
The king said to them: My children, you are my hosts, I am with
my friends; so said the Holy One, Blessed be He, to Israel: See that the entire world
is Mine, and I do not seek either Terumah or Tithes except
from you, as it is said: "Israel is holy to the Lord, the first of His produce," etc.
And so Rashi of blessed memory explained in Parashat Ki Tissa, and these are his words: "And you shall sanctify him to be
holy just as I have sanctified them," etc. And so Rashi of blessed memory explained
in Parashat Bechukotai: "And you shall be My people, and I will be your
God," meaning that you shall be a special people to Me and you shall not be like the rest of
the nations, and I will be your God supervising you with individual
and direct providence, unlike the rest of the nations for whom
His providence is not over them except through a ministering angel or constellation, and this is what the verse says:
"For the Lord's portion is His people, Jacob is the lot of His inheritance," etc. And this is what
the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Only you have I known from all the families of the earth,
therefore I will visit upon you all your iniquities," etc. And this is what the
verse says: "You are children to the Lord your God," etc.
M"H
The Rabbi of blessed memory further wrote on this: "And this is his name," their names are like an empty name, emptied,
"His name is oil poured forth," his name; the verse said: "A good name is better than good oil,"
meaning a good name is better than the good oil with which the Torah was anointed, and after all these things
he placed him in it, and so to Abraham was born Isaac, he used to say
