These are the Hadiths of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who said: Whoever
recites Surah Al-Ikhlas, it is as if
he recited a third of the Quran. And he also said: Whoever recites
Surah Al-Ikhlas ten times, Allah builds for him
a palace in Paradise. And he also said: Whoever recites
Surah Al-Ikhlas one hundred times, Allah forgives him
the sins of fifty years. And he also said: Whoever
recites Surah Al-Ikhlas a thousand times shall not die
until he sees his place in Paradise. And he also said:
Whoever recites Surah Al-Ikhlas in a state of
complete purity every day one hundred times, Allah ordains
for him an acquittal from the Fire, an acquittal from hypocrisy,
and an acquittal from the punishment. And he also said: Whoever
recites Surah Al-Ikhlas every day one hundred
times, one hundred mercies descend upon him; ninety
of them for the recitation and ten for the kinship. And he
also said: Whoever recites Surah Al-Ikhlas every day
one hundred times, Allah fulfills for him one hundred needs;
fifty of them in this world and fifty in
the Hereafter. And he also said: Whoever recites Surah
Al-Ikhlas every day one hundred times

And like the matter of Hannah's prayer, and she prayed to the Lord etc. and King David said
A Psalm; a Song at the Dedication of the House; of David. I will extol Thee, O Lord, for Thou hast raised me up,
and hast not suffered mine enemies to rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried unto Thee, and Thou didst heal me.
O Lord, Thou broughtest up my soul from the nether-world; Thou didst keep me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise unto the Lord,
O ye His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for a life-time;
weeping may tarry for the night, but joy cometh in the morning. Now I had said in my security: 'I shall
never be moved.' Thou, Lord, of Thy favour hadst established my mountain as a stronghold; Thou didst hide
Thy face; I was affrighted. Unto Thee, O Lord, did I call, and unto the Lord I made supplication:
'What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise Thee? shall it declare
Thy truth? Hear, O Lord, and be gracious unto me; Lord, be Thou my helper.' Thou didst turn
my mourning into dancing for me; Thou didst loose my sackcloth, and gird me with gladness;
so that my glory may sing praise to Thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto Thee for ever.
As long as the soul is within him, he who confesses and forsakes shall have mercy
for we have already explained that there is judgment and there is a Judge, and there is no
forgetfulness before His throne of glory, and even though He will multiply
pardon for our God, for He is abundant in forgiveness, and who
knows if He will turn and relent and leave behind a blessing,
and a meal-offing to the Lord our God, and who knows the spirit of the sons of
man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast
that goes downward to the earth, and who knows
if he will return in reincarnation and repair that which
he twisted and that which he spoiled, and the crooked shall be made
straight, and the ridges a plain, and all flesh shall see it
together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken

King Solomon, peace be upon him: The end of the matter, all having been heard: fear
God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole
of man. For God shall bring every deed into judgment
concerning every hidden thing, whether good or bad. And for this they instituted
for us, our Sages of blessed memory, to say during these Days of Awe and specifically
on this Yom Kippur that comes upon us for good:
You remember the deeds of the world and consider all the creatures of
old; before You all mysteries are revealed and a multitude of hidden things
from the beginning. For there is no forgetfulness before Your throne of glory
and nothing is hidden from before Your eyes. You remember every
action, and every creature is not concealed from You; everything
is revealed and known before You, O Lord our God, watching and looking until
the end of all generations. For You bring the decree of remembrance to consider
every spirit and soul, to remember many deeds and a multitude of
creatures without end; from the beginning You made this known
All that is spoken, Blessed he shall say, Blessed be the Name of the Lord who is blessed
and he should not say it after any man except a great scholar
in the synagogue at a time when he is not reading from the Torah
and if he also wanted to stand, he should stand, and it is good to stand and receive
reward and punishment for this, and everyone who answers: May His great Name be blessed
with all his strength, they tear up his sentence of seventy years
and even if there is a trace of idolatry in him, they forgive him
and one must answer Amen with all his strength and intention
so that he does not lose the intention for the sake of Heaven
and he should be very careful not to engage in idle talk in the
synagogue during the time of prayer and the reading of the Torah
and even words of Torah are forbidden to speak then
and all the more so idle things and profane conversation
and this sin is very great and brings about conflict
between a man and his fellow and causes the Divine Presence to depart
from Israel, Heaven forbid. And everyone who answers an 'orphaned' Amen,
his children will be orphans; and everyone who answers a 'snatched' Amen,
his days and years will be snatched away; and everyone who answers a 'truncated' Amen,
his days and years will be cut off; and everyone who prolongs the Amen,
they prolong his days and years in goodness and pleasantness.
And one must provide a space between 'Amen' and 'May His great Name be blessed'
and he should not answer an orphaned Amen, which means after the one blessing
has finished the blessing and paused for the length of a speech and then answered
Amen; and likewise he should not answer a truncated Amen, which means
that he snatches the word and cuts it off and does not express it
properly with correction, but rather he should prolong it a little in order
to say: God, faithful King.

Permission from on High and from the Good and Awesome Name
I shall open my mouth in song and praise to the Awesome God
May my memory rise before His throne of glory
Master of the World who reigned before any creature was created
And the honor of His Name shall be called forever and for all eternity
Living God, distinguished among ten thousand, who watches and looks
And the joy of my exultation, who raises my head and my glory
I will lift the cup of salvations and call upon the Name of the Lord
Song and praise, laud and psalm to the Awesome God
For it is becoming of Him, for it is fitting for Him
King of kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He
Let me sing now for my beloved, a song of my loved one for his vineyard
My beloved had a vineyard on a fruitful hillside
And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine
And built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein
And he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes
And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah
Judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard
What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it?
Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard
I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down
And I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned, nor digged
But there shall come up briers and thorns; I will also command the clouds
That they rain no rain upon it
For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah

And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel
these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spoke
unto the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt; beyond the Jordan,
in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites,
who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote,
when they came forth out of Egypt; and they took his land in possession, and the land of Og
king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan
toward the sunrising; from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon,
even unto mount Sion—the same is Hermon—and all the Arabah beyond
the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them: Hear,
O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I
speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and observe
to do them. The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers,
but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
The Lord spoke with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire—
I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare
unto you the word of the Lord; for ye were afraid because of the fire, and
went not up into the mount—saying: I am the Lord thy God, who
brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have
no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image,
even any manner of likeness, of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth
beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; thou shalt not bow down
unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation
of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me and keep My commandments.

Behold, we have seen that which I have remembered ⟦plainly⟧
to save His people Israel at every period and time
and even at this time when due to our many sins troubles have increased

I will speak and I will be relieved, perhaps He will have pity on a people

speedily in our days, Amen. And it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, he is
Ahasuerus who reigned from India even unto Ethiopia,
over a hundred and seven and twenty provinces; in those days,
when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom,
which was in Shushan the capital, in the third year of his reign,
he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia
and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him;
when he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honor
of his excellent majesty many days, even a hundred and fourscore days.
And when these days were fulfilled, the king made for all the people
that were present in Shushan the capital, both great and small, a feast
seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace; white, fine cotton,
and blue, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings
and pillars of marble; the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of porphyry,
and marble, and alabaster, and stone of blue color. And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, the vessels
being diverse one from another, and royal wine in abundance, according to the bounty of the king. And the drinking
was according to the law; none did compel; for so the king had appointed to all the officers of
his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure. Also Vashti the queen
made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to King
Ahasuerus. On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine

From this a person can see how much one must be careful with the commandments,
and how greatly a person is elevated and magnified through the commandments.
And further I saw under the sun: in the place of judgment, there is wickedness.
Whenever they do not perform judgment and righteousness,
⟦illegible⟧
and in the place of justice, there is wickedness; and our Sages of blessed memory interpreted: whenever
judgment and righteousness are not performed, wickedness prevails in the world, and this is
what the scripture said: Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and those who return to her with righteousness.
For through judgment and righteousness the redemption will draw near.
And this is what is stated: Keep judgment and do righteousness, for My salvation
is near to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. And this is what is stated:
In righteousness you shall be established; be far from oppression, for you shall not fear, and from ruin,
for it shall not come near you. And this is what is stated: And the work of
righteousness shall be peace, and the labor of righteousness, quietness and assurance
forever. And it says: Sow for yourselves for righteousness, and reap according to
kindness; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, until He comes
and rains righteousness upon you.
Page 34
And so it is there in the verse, "For the poor shall never cease out of the land"
Justice shall contain him, and as the Sages said regarding the judgment of the King
"The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come"
Because it is written, "For because of this thing the Lord your God shall bless you in all your works"
Great justice and much
"And these are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; every man and his household
came: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin"
To make known their belovedness, for they are compared to the stars, which He brings out and brings in by number
As it is said, "He that brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name; by the greatness of His might
and for that He is strong in power, not one is missing," even though all their names are as one
For there ⟦...⟧ Moses our Teacher, peace be upon him, and all Israel like one man, companions
And as the scripture says, "And there Israel encamped before the mount," in the singular tongue
And regarding this, our Rabbi Isaac was awakened, for what is written "And these are the names of the children of Israel
who came into Egypt," that it opens with a "Vav" (and), and it should have said "These
are the names of the children of Israel," and he answered according to Midrash Rabbah that this verse
comes to teach us the praise of Israel, that they did not change their names
and they did not change their language, and they did not reveal their secrets, and they
were not suspected of forbidden relations, for Reuben and Simeon went down, and Reuben and Simeon
went up; not that Reuben was called Rufus, nor was Simeon called
Lulini; and this is "And these are the names of the children of Israel," adding to the former ones
And Rashi's explanation, of blessed memory: to make known their belovedness, for they are compared to the stars, which He brings out
and brings in by names, as it is said, "He calls them all by name," and it is necessary to understand
as it is written in Parashat Vayechi: "And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years;
so the whole age of Jacob was a hundred forty and seven years.
And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now
I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly
and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt: But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me
out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.
And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.
And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick"

And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head
of Ephraim, it displeased him; and he held up his father's hand, to remove it
from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. And Joseph said unto
his father: 'Not so, my father; for this is the first-born; put thy right hand upon his head.'
And his father refused, and said: 'I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become
a people, and he also shall be great; howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he,
and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.'
And he blessed them that day, saying: 'By thee shall Israel bless, saying:
God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh'; and he set Ephraim
before Manasseh. And Israel said unto Joseph: 'Behold, I die;
but God shall be with you, and bring you back unto the land of your fathers.
Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand
of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.' And Jacob called unto his sons, and said:
'Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the end
of days. Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel
your father. Reuben, thou art my first-born, my might, and the first-fruits of my strength; the excellency
of dignity, and the excellency of power. Unstable as water, have not thou the excellency; because thou wentest up
to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it; he went up to my couch. Simeon and Levi
are brethren; weapons of violence their kinship. Let my soul not come into their council;'

But it seems clear, simple, that this does not apply to
the answer 'they come from power' and slowly he did not know what it contained —
because they are not subordinate; rather, since it is in his hand, he directed it in his hand
it is considered as one body, and this is a wonder, and even Rav Sheshet did
not compare there one where one body is significant and properly called
rather in this case, since toward him they are nullified because it is not worth
to him, it is not even considered like the body of another; for if you do not say
so, it is still difficult for R. Assi who asks from Ulla to R. Eleazar
and answers it, let him establish it according to R. Johanan, and since he establishes it
according to R. Johanan, what is difficult for him further
<del>because of the four loaves and this which is another domain and informs</del>
as that which is in his hand is not considered even of a charity pouch which is
for if it is simple to him that there it is written 'and one pouch shall be for us all'
it is considered simple, and even so his is nullified since it is not worth
but certainly even according to the one who says that for another the obligation remains
that a vessel of gold is not his because he serves with this —
And so wrote Maimonides in the law, of blessed memory, it is like one loaf that is considered
<del>of partners and both of them join there and make an Eruv</del>
and even if he gave it empty; but in any case if it was given full itself he admits
that it is significant because it is not like another domain where nullification is not relevant
because the law of nullification does not apply to it since this is the way of use
whereas in this case such a way is not relevant and it is certainly not his will
explained that each and every one is considered by the law of a loaf that is not nullified
however there, because it does not connect, rather it is nullified toward him
and because it is worth nothing and against his will it is nullified toward him
<del>because it is worth nothing and against his will it is nullified toward him</del>
and for this reason it is considered as one that does not combine, and it is simple
Loaned in money, according to what is heard in the world, so
they have nothing, nor is there anything in their hand, neither little nor much,
neither in gold, nor in silver, nor in wood, nor in copper, nor
in anything of the world. They shall have no claim against the people, nor
shall the people have a claim against them. They shall have no lawsuit, nor demand, nor
argument, nor evidence, nor argument, nor proof regarding any of that
which we have mentioned, nor in anything else.

Parshat Vayechi
It is permitted for one riding an animal
on Shabbat within the city, even if there is an Eruv,
to return the animal to its place, provided that
he did not go outside the boundary. And if he went outside the boundary,
it is forbidden for him to return. And so too, it is permitted for a rider
to leave the city to stroll in the orchards
outside the city, provided that he does not go outside
the Shabbat boundary. And so too, it is permitted for a rider
to go out to meet a groom or to meet a minister
or ruler, and to run before him and to gladden
even on Shabbat and Yom Tov. And it is permitted
to run before him and to dance and to clap hands
even on Shabbat. And so too, it is permitted for a rider
(counting) to stroll in the orchards of Gentiles
and to smell myrtles and roses and types of spices
and to recite the blessing over them "Who gives a good scent
to fruits" (or herbaceous) spices. And it is permitted
for a rider to go outside the Shabbat boundary
for the sake of a Mitzvah, such as to circumcise
the infant, or for the redemption of the son, or to welcome
his teacher's presence or his father's presence or his mother's presence,
or to go to a Mitzvah feast, and anything similar
to this, it is permitted to go even outside the Shabbat
boundary, provided that he returns to his place on that same day.
And this is the question asked of me by the perfect and complete sage
the honorable Rabbi Jacob, may his light shine forever and ever, Amen
regarding the case of Reuben who died and left a wife and children
and left a large estate, and there was found in the hand of Simeon
a promissory note against the aforementioned Reuben for the sum of one hundred gold pieces
and the time for repayment of the note had passed several years ago
and Simeon claims that he was never paid anything
from the aforementioned debt, and the widow claims perhaps it was paid
during her husband's lifetime or he waived the debt for him
and since her husband died, she should not have to pay except through an oath
and Simeon does not want to swear, and since he does not swear
he does not collect. May our teacher instruct us, with whom is the law?
Answer
We learn in the chapter "All who Swear," Rav Nachman said in the name of Shmuel
Anyone who collects from the property of orphans shall not collect except through an oath
and even if the borrower died during the lender's lifetime, and even if the borrower
admits to the note that it was not paid, and even if the orphans are minors
and even if the orphans are adults, and even if the orphans say
we know that our father did not pay anything, even
so, he shall not collect except through an oath. What is the reason?
Perhaps he paid and he had a receipt and it was lost etc.
And the Rif, of blessed memory, wrote in his Laws: and where there are witnesses
who say we know of him that he did not pay it, he does not need to swear
because a person does not remember every matter of the court etc.
And behold

I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him,
my father's God, and I will exalt Him. The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is His name.
Pharaoh's chariots and his army He cast into the sea; and his elite officers
were drowned in the Red Sea. The deeps covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; You send forth Your fury, it consumes them like stubble.
By the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up; the flowing waters stood up like a heap;
the deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy said, 'I will pursue,
I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'
You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
Who is like You among the gods, O Lord? Who is like You, majestic
in holiness, awesome in praises, doing wonders? You stretched out Your right hand, the earth swallowed them.
In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength to Your holy habitation.
The peoples have heard, they tremble; anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia.
Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; the leaders of Moab, trembling seizes them;
all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. Terror and dread fall upon them;
by the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone, until Your people pass over, O Lord,
until the people pass over whom You have purchased. You will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance,
the place, O Lord, which You have made for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.
The Lord shall reign forever and ever. For the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went
into the sea, and the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the sons of Israel
walked on dry land in the midst of the sea. And Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took
the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing.
And Miriam answered them, 'Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.'

number and intention of the heart. For because of this ⟦...⟧
⟦...⟧ alone, unique, and this thing is in thought
for in the believer the thought is subtle ⟦...⟧ and one who thinks
⟦...⟧ also the thought, and from another side ⟦...⟧
great that he thinks and said 'one who wants' and feared ⟦...⟧
because there is nothing there but everything depends on thought
as he thinks more, and also in the place where he thinks, it is built there
and this is the secret of: 'He who finds a wife finds good and obtains favor'
from what is said 'And all your children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace'
'of your children' - do not read it as 'your children' but as 'your builders' for the thought
it builds a building; in the place where he thinks, it is built there
that where he thinks is his root, and the thought is attached to him
and it invents it, and he is able to do things
awesome in thought. And the matter is this
for when the thought is attached above
it makes new things, and this is the secret
⟦...⟧ and the thought can repair everything
in this that he thinks and clarifies the good
from the bad and clarifies the food from the waste
⟦...⟧ it is everything in the thought that he thinks

for he could have repaired everything in thought

Rav Yehuda said, Rav Shmuel bar Nachmani said —
What is that which is written: 'And it was in the morning, at the time of the offering of the sacrifice, and behold,
water was coming from the way of Edom.' And it is written: 'And the land was filled with
the water.' This teaches that the entire world
was drinking. And why is it different that he sees in a dream
this time which was at the offering of the sacrifice, which is the morning
for there are those who say they were hired etc. —
Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak said: Seven things were created before
the world was created, and these are they: Torah, and Repentance, and the Garden of Eden, and Gehenna,
and the Throne of Glory, and the Holy Temple, and the name of the Messiah.
Torah, as it is written: 'The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.' —
Repentance, as it is written: 'Before the mountains were brought forth,' and it is written: 'You turn man
to contrition, and say: Return, O children of men.' The Garden of Eden, as it is written:
'And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden of old.' And Gehenna, as it is written:
'For Tophet is prepared of old.' The Throne of Glory, as it is written:
'Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.' The Holy Temple, as it is written:
'A glorious throne, set on high from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary.' The name of
the Messiah, as it is written: 'May his name endure forever; as long as the sun, his name shall flourish.'
It was taught: Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai says: Come and see how beloved
Israel is before the Holy One, Blessed be He, for every place they were exiled, the Divine Presence was with them.
They were exiled to Egypt, the Divine Presence was with them, as it is said: 'Did I not plainly reveal Myself
to the house of your father when they were in Egypt?' They were exiled to Babylon, the Divine Presence was with them,
as it is said: 'For your sake I have sent to Babylon.' And even when they are destined
to be redeemed, the Divine Presence is with them, as it is said: 'Then the Lord your God will return with
your captivity.' It does not say 'and He will bring back', but 'and He will return', which teaches that the Holy One, Blessed be He,
returns with them from among the exiles.

As it is said: Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering
And they sought from me a matter, do and I will go for myself
It is said, and let it all be done according to your will, do not do it
For the way of flesh and blood is not so; he asks ⟦...⟧
from a person a small thing ⟦with a pleasant countenance⟧ he gives to him
And if he asked from him a great thing ⟦he gives to him⟧
with a frowning countenance, but the Holy One, Blessed be He, is not
so; whether he asked a small thing
or a great thing, with a pleasant countenance, as it is said:
And they shall take for Me an offering from every man whose
heart moves him, you shall take My offering.
Another explanation: "And they shall take for Me an offering," as it is written: "For I have given you good instruction,
My Torah, do not forsake it." Do not forsake
the purchase that I have purchased for you. You have a man
who takes a purchase, it has gold but no silver,
it has silver but no gold, but the purchase
that I gave to you has silver, as it is said: "The words of
the Lord are pure words, silver refined in a furnace
on the ground, purified seven times." And it has gold,
as it is said: "More desirable than gold, even much fine gold."
You have a man who purchases fields and vineyards,
perhaps he does not purchase silver and gold? Therefore it is said:
"For I have given you good instruction, My Torah, do not forsake it."

In the words of our teacher Elijah the Priest of blessed and holy memory and our teacher Isaac David Abraham
Over the community, may God protect them, as seen by the eyes of Bekhor Solomon ⟦...⟧
He knew no rest because of an incident that occurred there in that place
And regarding the matter of the deed which was done in the days of the aforementioned sage
Who was serving the public in those days
And he had a son, wise and understanding like his father of blessed memory
And his name was Rabbi Elijah the Priest the Second
And it came to pass that the aforementioned sage died and his son remained
After him, and he filled his father's place in wisdom and in fear [of God]
And there was a certain man, very wealthy, and his name was Rabbi Reuben
And he had an only daughter, beautiful of form and beautiful of appearance
And the sage Rabbi Elijah aforementioned desired her and requested
Her from her father for a wife, but he refused to give her to him
And he said to him, I cannot give my daughter to you
For I have already sworn to give her to another man
And it was when the sage heard this thing
He was very angry and said to him, if you do not give
Her to me, you shall have no offspring of sons
And he went out from his presence in a burning anger and went to his house
And it came to pass after these things that that man died
And the sage Rabbi Elijah remained lonely and childless
And he took for himself another wife and begot sons and daughters
And it came to pass when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim from seeing
And he called Esau his eldest son and said to him, my son
And he said, here I am, and he said, behold now I am old, I do not know the day of my death
And now please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me
