To His Eminence the Honorable Hakham Bashi of Jaffa
Subject: Regarding the case of Menashe Moshe Zalouf
Greetings and respect, we hereby refer to your esteemed office the petition submitted to us by the named
Moshe bin Ibrahim Zalouf on July 10, 1928, requesting that you kindly look into it as
required and inform us of the outcome of the case.
Please accept our thanks and respect;

To the honor of our dear and respected friends, the honorable Rabbi ⟦...⟧ may God protect and preserve him, peace and blessing.
After inquiring of your welfare and well-being as is fitting. Your letter from the day of ⟦...⟧ reached us correctly, and regarding all that is written in it
we have understood. And regarding the matter of ⟦...⟧ which you wrote. Behold, we thank you for all the trouble you have taken
on our behalf. And in truth, ⟦...⟧ it was not our intention to do so except because of the difficult situation in which we
find ourselves now. Therefore, we request of you with every language of entreaty that you strive with all your power
to finish this matter as soon as possible. For if not, God forbid, it will cause us a great loss. And we also
on our part will not spare any effort. And we have already written to you in our previous letter that whatever you do will be acceptable
to us. And we have no doubt that you will do what is good and right in the eyes of God and man. And regarding the matter of the money which you wrote
that we should send to you. Behold, we are sending you herewith the sum of ⟦...⟧ via ⟦...⟧ and when you receive them, inform us
in your next letter. And we also wait to hear from you good news regarding all the matters between us
and whatever is new, inform us. And may God make your way and our way succeed for good and for blessing. And peace be upon Israel.
Furthermore, we inform you that we sent you the books which you requested via ⟦...⟧ and they are on the way to you now.
And so the matter of ⟦...⟧ has already been finished for the best. And we have nothing more to add to this. Only the asking of peace
for all the friends and acquaintances. And much peace to your dear father and to all the members of your household. And may God protect you and grant you life
and merit us to see your faces in joy and with a good heart. Amen. And let there be peace. And all good forever. As your good
soul and your generous spirit. Those waiting for salvation and for the day of reckoning. And may God bless His people with peace. Amen.
And much peace to all those accompanying you. And all the friends and acquaintances inquire of your good welfare. And peace.
From the small one ⟦...⟧ may his end be good. Who waits for salvation. And much peace to your dear father and to all the members of your household.
And may God protect you and grant you life and merit us to see your faces in joy and with a good heart. Amen. And let there be peace.

To the Head of the Israelite Community in Kermanshah
Subject: Regarding the case of Na'ima, daughter of Bashir
After greetings, based on the request of some relatives of the named Na'ima, daughter of Bashir bin Abdullah
Bashir (Abu al-Sami'), it is necessary to inform your presence that the aforementioned Na'ima, daughter of Bashir, her husband
Ibrahim had traveled with her some time ago to Kermanshah, and today he is alone in Baghdad.
Since news of this woman has been cut off from her relatives in Baghdad, and they -
are apprehensive that harm may have befallen her, it is therefore requested of your presence to provide us
with some information about the aforementioned Na'ima, and if possible, to provide us with a letter from her explaining
her situation and informing us whether she wishes to come to Baghdad, as some of her relatives
are prepared to provide the travel expenses for her.

Baghdad
After greetings, what is presented to your respected position regarding commercial and family ⟦...⟧ has become known
Regarding the free ram, we decided it has become circular ⟦...⟧ we brought it here with a ram and at all times I am ready to speak with him, I have no energy
for me, what we meant is that it should only go by the hand of a man conditioned on the one who sent it to wherever it is found with you
And also ⟦...⟧ the money for the ram that they requested, here they are, they must be found and working at the bank
And also the money that they took upon its occurrence for those who read the money, his money also must be found, he records it in the name of
the house above his money which they are returning by bringing it to the bank if they are willing to accept these conditions
Let us know so that I may bring it with us to Baghdad because it goes to another side without good, and your request, they are also willing
to hear a private man and there is no ⟦...⟧ for them a need to emphasize to your presence
This is what was necessary and ⟦...⟧ let us know your news and may you remain ⟦...⟧

To the Honorable President of the Lay Council of the Israelite Community
Greetings and respect. It is not hidden from you that your servant is a teacher at the Talmud Torah school, and according to my account submitted
to your Excellency below, I am still owed one Dinar from the aforementioned school from that date until this day. I am sitting
idle. At the beginning, he said I will pay you the mentioned Dinar, and then he says we do not owe for these three months.
Your servant hopes to prove that I was present during the last three months in which I was continuing to teach at the
mentioned school by my signature in the teachers' attendance book for every day, which is currently in the mentioned school.
Therefore, I expect your mercy to look into my case and then order the payment of the mentioned Dinar. Furthermore, I hope
to provide a second proof from the records in the administration via the report of the previous Lay Council regarding ⟦the acquisition of⟧
my teaching at the mentioned school on whatever date it was, along with the recitation of another school. Our hope is firm that your Excellency
will not accept this injustice against your servant, who is the head of a family of several persons. It is not known that I left the school until this
day; your servant is unemployed, idle, with no work or job. Moreover, the director of the mentioned school wishes to deny my legitimate right.
I have entrusted my matter to your Excellency. Sincerely, Ibrahim Meir Shukri

The Honorable Virtuous President of the Israeli Lay Council in Baghdad, respected
Greetings and respect. It is not hidden from your esteemed council that your poor petitioner has been in the service of the community for 32 years
teaching Torah in the Midrash Talmud Torah to first-grade students; it is also not hidden from all the respected members of my community,
especially your esteemed council, my sincere services towards the students, and Hashem knows that I raised them as my own children
and I strove heart and soul. Unfortunately, I am compelled to explain to your esteemed council that, due to bad luck, disability and old age
have overcome me, and I no longer have the energy to continue except until the upcoming summer break, after which I will stop. Therefore,
in this letter of mine, I request your esteemed council to look into my request at the first session to be held and decide
in exchange for my 32 years of service, a monthly amount that I may receive from the community fund for my livelihood after my separation
from my position. The poor petitioner is very certain that every individual member of your esteemed council will accept this request of mine
