And the remainder
To the Honorable President of the Lay Council of the Israelite Community
Greetings and respect. It is not hidden from you that your servant is a teacher at the Talmud Torah school, and according to my account submitted
to your Excellency below, I am still owed one Dinar from the aforementioned school from that date until this day. I am sitting
idle. At the beginning, he said I will pay you the mentioned Dinar, and then he says we do not owe for these three months.
Your servant hopes to prove that I was present during the last three months in which I was continuing to teach at the
mentioned school by my signature in the teachers' attendance book for every day, which is currently in the mentioned school.
Therefore, I expect your mercy to look into my case and then order the payment of the mentioned Dinar. Furthermore, I hope
to provide a second proof from the records in the administration via the report of the previous Lay Council regarding ⟦the acquisition of⟧
my teaching at the mentioned school on whatever date it was, along with the recitation of another school. Our hope is firm that your Excellency
will not accept this injustice against your servant, who is the head of a family of several persons. It is not known that I left the school until this
day; your servant is unemployed, idle, with no work or job. Moreover, the director of the mentioned school wishes to deny my legitimate right.
I have entrusted my matter to your Excellency. Sincerely, Ibrahim Meir Shukri

Directorate of Midrash Schools
The Lay Council decided in its meeting held on June 5, 935:
1- Reducing the salaries of Midrash employees whose salaries exceed three dinars by twenty
percent of the basic salary, with the exception of the trustee Ezra Sahyoun Effendi, the director Moshi Effendi, and the son of Hakham
Hezekiah, provided that the salary does not result in less than three dinars.
2- Teachers Isaac Hayyim, Khedhouri Abraham, and Naeem
Yaqub are transferred to the Menashi Saleh School, provided that the aforementioned reduction is applied to their salaries.
3- Sasson Effendi Nassim, the clerk in the Midrash schools, is retired at half salary.
4- Teachers Isaac Yaqub Mola and Yusuf Hakham Rubin are retired with a monthly
salary of one dinar and one hundred and eighty-seven fils each 1/187, and Jihat is paid
a monthly retirement salary of one dinar, provided that the aforementioned receive these retirement salaries from
the Midrash, and this retirement shall be limited to each of them personally, and their heirs do not have the right to demand its transfer
to them.
5- Four dinars and eight hundred and seventy-five fils 4/875 shall be deducted from the total
salaries of the servants, provided that the organization of the servants' matter is entrusted to the director.
6- The Council approves the payment of the salaries of the Midrash employees for the next four months: June, July,
August, and September 935 directly, provided that the following revenues are delivered during the four mentioned months:
735 | 200 | From property revenues

994 | 193 | Value of the plot of land requested to be sold
729 | 600 | Only six hundred dinars and seven hundred and twenty-nine fils, which is the total revenue that
the trustee confirmed to the Council would be collected during the four mentioned months.
7- Since the amount decided to be deducted from the Midrash allocations to the Menashi Saleh School is one hundred
and five dinars, and the total salaries of the previously transferred employees reached approximately thirty-nine dinars, and the difference
of the reductions listed above is approximately fifty-two dinars, the total reduction in Midrash expenses would be

To its Governor
The Honorable President of the Israeli Lay Council in Baghdad, respected
Greetings and respect. It is not hidden from your esteemed council that your poor servant has been in the service of the community for 32 years
teaching Torah in the Midrash Talmud Torah to first-grade students; it is also not hidden from all the respected members of my community
especially your esteemed council, regarding my sincere services towards the students, who are a trust that I have considered as my own children
and I have strived with heart and soul. Unfortunately, I am compelled to explain to your esteemed council that, by ill fortune, infirmity
and old age have overcome me, and I no longer have the energy to ⟦be able to continue⟧ except until the coming summer vacation, after which I shall stop. For this reason
in this letter of mine, I petition your esteemed council to look into my request at the first session to be held and to decide
in exchange for my 32 years of service, on a monthly amount that I may receive from the community fund in order to live on after my separation
from my position. The poor servant is very certain that every individual member of your esteemed council will accept this request of mine
in accordance with right and justice. In advance, I pray for the members of the community in general and for your esteemed council in particular, for all goodness, Amen.
