Statement
To the members of the Israeli community in Baghdad
It is important that the honorable members of the community be informed that the revenues of the Gabelle, despite the meager amount paid
by the individual to the community fund, which is ten fils per kilo, are what the management of the community's schools,
hospitals, and other charitable institutions depend on. For example, the allocations for schools
reached (15,225) Dinars in the last year, hospitals (4,327) Dinars, and charitable institutions
(8,428) Dinars. Therefore, the disruption or imbalance of this resource due to the non-purchase of
Kosher meat will inevitably lead to the closure of these institutions that serve the community members of
all classes. Since His Eminence Rabbi Sassoon Khadduri has submitted his resignation to
His Excellency the Minister of Justice, the President of the Lay Council is managing the affairs of the Community Presidency
acting on behalf, in accordance with the second paragraph of Article 77 of the Israeli Community Law of 1931.
Therefore, I call upon the honorable members of the community to support and assist us in conducting the affairs
of the community, and success is from God.
President of the Lay Council
