Other examinations passed by the above candidate:
1. Iraq State Baccalaureate Examination for Primary Education, in June
1965, ranking 21st among 36 candidates from Frank Iny Primary School.
This examination is, in standard, equivalent roughly to the Common
Entrance Examination of the English Schools or to the final examina-
tion of grade 7 of the American Schools.
2. Iraq State Baccalaureate Examination for Intermediate Education, in
June 1968, ranking 50th among 56 candidates from Frank Iny School.
His marks in this examination are shown in the 3rd column on page 2
of this reference.
3. London University General Certificate of Education Examination in the
following subject:
Mark obtained | Subject | Level | Date
C | Additional Mathematics | Ordinary | June 1970
Note: Grading System applicable as from June 1968, is as follows:
Grades A, C, E are grades of pass in descending order of merit
for Ordinary Level subjects. For Advanced Level subjects,
grades A, B, C, D, E are passing grades in order of merit.
Grade 'O' in the Advanced Level subjects is considered a
pass at the Ordinary Level.
While in Frank Iny School and Shamash Secondary School, both of which
are under the same administration, the above candidate was always diligent
and of good character.
Mr. Jamil S. Y. Ezra has done most of his instruction in Frank Iny
School and in Shamash Secondary School in English, thus attaining a good
standard in both spoken and written English. I am sure that he is now
able to follow any course in any English-speaking University abroad without
the least difficulty. I therefore recommend that he be exempted from the
TOEFL Examination in English, usually required by American and Canadian
Universities.
The above student is physically and mentally quite fit. I recommend
him for admission to any University abroad as a fairly good candidate.

UNIVERSITY OF LONDON GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION EXAMINATION OVERSEAS
The statement on the other side of this form shows the grades
awarded to you at the Advanced and/or the Ordinary level in each
subject for which you entered. This information is sent before the
issue of Certificates and the University reserves the right to correct
it. This document is not a Certificate and must not be regarded as
such.
Advanced Level
At this level grades A, B, C, D and E are grades of pass in descending
order of merit, reading from left to right, and grade F followed by
the word FAIL, denotes failure. Grade O, followed by ORD, at
this level indicates a compensatory Ordinary level pass. The words
FAIL and ORD apply to the subject as a whole. An 'X' indicates
absence from the examination in a subject. 'Z' indicates that a script
has been received in answer to questions set on a subject, syllabus or
option other than the one for which you entered, and no result is
given.
Where a candidate has entered for both Pure Mathematics and
Applied Mathematics but has not been awarded an Advanced level
pass in both subjects, an alternative Advanced level pass in Mathe-
matics (Pure and Applied) may be given if the performance in
Papers I and II reaches the required standard.
There are no oral tests in the languages at this level except for
certain subjects ⟦illegible⟧ for candidates from these schools
there are two grades in French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish
and Modern Hebrew. The first represents the result obtained in the
subject as a whole including the oral test. To the right of this appears
the grade given in the oral examination only. The oral grades are A,
B, C, D, E, O and F. Failure in the oral test does not necessarily
indicate failure in the subject as a whole.
Ordinary Level
At this level grades A, C and E are grades of pass in descending order
of merit, reading from left to right, and Grades F and H, followed by
the word FAIL, denote failure. An 'X' indicates absence from the
examination in a subject. 'Z' indicates that a script has been received
in answer to questions set on a subject, syllabus or option other than
the one for which you entered, and no result is given.
There are no oral tests in the languages at this level.
In Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Zoology two
grades are given. The first represents the grade obtained in the
subject as a whole, including the practical test; to the right of this
appears the grade given in the practical test only.
