a third in land, a third in commerce, and a third ready at hand.'
And they understood from this verse that the wealth which a
man possesses should be divided into three parts: one part he places
in the earth, in the purchase of real estate and houses; the second part
he puts into commerce; and the third part remains with him
at home, ready for whatever needs may arise for him,
at the time when the wealth is small, so that he does not need
to borrow from others.
In these places, one benefits from commerce and what pertains to it
in the purchase of real estate.
As for that which is placed in the purchase of real estate, it is that which becomes
a fixed asset; there is no fear in it of loss or destruction,
it is not consumed by fire, nor stolen by thieves; rather, real estate
is among the things that remain fixed. And at that time
when he has real estate, he has rest and tranquility
in his heart regarding the wealth, because he knows that his wealth is in a secure
preserve, he does not fear for it loss or destruction. As for he who
possesses real estate, he is at rest from the toil and hardship
that exists in commerce and in other occupations.
