And it came to pass on the sixth day, and they came before the king and prostrated themselves to him with their faces
to the ground, and they said to him, "May the king live forever." And the king said to them,
"What is it that you have come to me today?" And they said to him, "Our lord the king, we have come
before you to seek mercy from you for your people Israel, who are in all
the provinces, for an evil decree has been decreed against them to destroy, to kill,
and to annihilate all the Jews, from young to old, children and women, in one
day, on the thirteenth of the month of Adar, and to plunder their possessions -
And the king said to them, "Who is he, and where is he, whose heart has filled him to do
so?" And they said to him, "The wicked Haman is the one who advised against us
this evil." And the king said to Haman, "What shall be done for the man
whom the king desires to honor?" And Haman said in his heart, "Whom would the king
desire to honor more than me?" And Haman said to the king,
"For the man whom the king desires to honor, let them bring royal apparel which
the king has worn, and a horse on which the king has ridden, and let the royal crown
be set on his head. And let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's
most noble princes, and let them dress the man whom the king desires
to honor, and parade him on the horse through the city square, and proclaim before him,
'Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king desires to honor!'"
(Continued on the second page)
And the king said to Haman, "Hurry, take the apparel and the horse
as you have spoken, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits at the king's
gate; let nothing fail of all that you have spoken." And Haman took
the apparel and the horse, and dressed Mordecai, and paraded him -
through the city square, and proclaimed before him, "Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king
desires to honor." And Mordecai returned to the king's gate, but Haman hurried to
his house, mourning and with his head covered. And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all
his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him,
"If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you
will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him." While they were still talking with him, the king's
eunuchs arrived and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet which
Esther had prepared. So the king and Haman came to drink with Esther the queen.
And the king said to Esther again on the second day at the banquet of wine, "What
is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Up to half
the kingdom, and it shall be done." Then Queen Esther answered and said, "If I have found favor
in the eyes of the king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition,
and my people at my request. For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed,
and to be annihilated. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have remained silent, for the adversary
is not worth the damage to the king."
Then King Ahasuerus spoke and said to Queen Esther, "Who is he,
and where is he, whose heart has filled him to do so?" And Esther said,
"The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!" Then Haman was terrified before the king
and the queen. And the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden;
but Haman stood up to plead for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that
evil was determined against him by the king. And the king returned from the palace garden
to the house of the banquet of wine, and Haman had fallen across the couch where Esther
was. Then the king said, "Will he even assault the queen while I am in the house?"
As the word left the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face. And Harbonah, one
of the eunuchs, said before the king, "Look, the gallows which Haman made"

Vayechi
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying: Let me pass through your land;
we will not turn aside into field or vineyard, nor drink the water of a well; by the King's Highway we will go until we have passed your border.
But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border; and Sihon gathered all his people and went out against
Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. And Israel struck him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land
from Arnon to Jabbok, as far as the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong. And Israel took all these cities,
and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all its daughters. For Heshbon was the city of Sihon
king of the Amorites, and he had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all his land from his hand as far as Arnon.
Therefore the poets say: Come to Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and established. For a fire went out from Heshbon,
a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon. Woe to you, Moab! You are lost,
O people of Chemosh! He gave his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity to the king of the Amorites, Sihon. And we shot at them; lost
is Heshbon as far as Dibon, and we laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba. And Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
And Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured its daughters and drove out the Amorites who were there.
And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan; and Og king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle
at Edrei. And the Lord said to Moses: Do not fear him, for into your hand I have given him and all his people
and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon.
And they struck him and his sons and all his people until no survivor was left to him, and they possessed his land.
And the children of Israel journeyed and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.
And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was very afraid of
the people because they were many; and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel. And Moab said to the elders of
Midian: Now this assembly will lick up all that is around us as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak
the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time. And he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor,
which is by the River, the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying: Behold, a people has come out from Egypt; behold,
they cover the eye of the earth, and they are staying opposite me. And now, please come, curse this people for me,
for they are too mighty for me; perhaps I shall be able to strike them and drive them out of the land; for I know that
he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.
And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went with divinations in their hand, and they came to Balaam and spoke to him
the words of Balak. And he said to them: Lodge here tonight, and I will bring you back word as the
Lord shall speak to me. And the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam. And God came to Balaam and said: Who are these men
with you? And Balaam said to God: Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me,
saying: Behold, the people that came out of Egypt covers the eye of the earth; now come, curse them for me; perhaps
I shall be able to fight against them and drive them out. And God said to Balaam: You shall not go with them; you
shall not curse the people, for they are blessed. And Balaam rose in the morning and said to the princes of Balak:
Go to your land, for the Lord has refused to let me go with you. And the princes of Moab rose and came
to Balak and said: Balaam refused to come with us. And Balak sent again more princes,
and more distinguished than those. And they came to Balaam and said to him: Thus says Balak the son of Zippor: Please do not
let anything hinder you from coming to me. For I will surely honor you greatly, and whatever you say to me I will do; so please
come, curse this people for me. And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak: If Balak would give me
his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do small or
great. And now, please stay here also tonight, that I may know what more the Lord will say to me.
And God came to Balaam at night and said to him: If the men have come to call you, rise up,
go with them; but only the word which I shall speak to you, that you shall do.

For Yom Kippur
Our God and God of our fathers, forgive and pardon our iniquities
on this Day of Atonement fast, and wipe away and remove our transgressions
from before us, as it is written: I, even I, am He who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake,
and your sins I will not remember. And it is said: I have wiped away like a thick cloud your transgressions,
and like a mist your sins; return to Me, for I have redeemed you. And it is said:
For on this day He shall provide atonement for you to cleanse you; from all
your sins before the Lord shall you be clean. Sanctify us with Your commandments,
and grant our portion in Your Torah; satisfy us with Your goodness, and gladden us
with Your salvation, and purify our hearts to serve You in truth; for You are
the Forgiver of Israel and the Pardoner of the tribes of Jeshurun in every generation
and generation, and besides You we have no King who forgives and pardons
but You. Blessed are You, Lord, King who forgives and pardons
our iniquities and the iniquities of His people, the House of Israel, and removes
our guilt every year; King over all the earth,
Who sanctifies Israel and the Day of Atonement. Amen Selah.
May it be Your will, Lord our God and God of our fathers,
that the Holy Temple be rebuilt speedily in our days, and grant our portion
in Your Torah, and there we will serve You in awe as in the days of old and as in years
past.
Merciful God is Your name, Gracious God is Your name, Slow to Anger is Your name,
Full of Compassion is Your name; Your name is called upon us. Lord, act
for the sake of Your name.
Act for the sake of Your truth; act for the sake of Your covenant; act for the sake of
Your greatness and Your splendor; act for the sake of Your law; act for the sake of
Your majesty; act for the sake of Your assembly; act for the sake of Your remembrance;
act for the sake of Your loving-kindness; act for the sake of Your goodness; act for the sake of
Your unity; act for the sake of Your glory; act for the sake of Your teaching;
act for the sake of Your kingdom; act for the sake of Your victory; act for the sake of
Your secret; act for the sake of Your strength; act for the sake of Your redemption;
act for the sake of Your righteousness; act for the sake of Your holiness; act
for the sake of Your abundant mercies; act for the sake of Your Divine Presence;
act for the sake of Your praise; act for the sake of those who love You,
the dwellers in the dust; act for the sake of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob;
act for the sake of Moses and Aaron; act for the sake of David and Solomon;
act for the sake of Jerusalem, the Holy City; act for the sake of Zion,
the dwelling place of Your glory; act for the sake of the destruction of Your House; act
for the sake of the desolation of Your Temple; act for the sake of the poor of Israel;
act for the sake of those killed for Your Holy Name; act for the sake of
those slaughtered for Your unity; act for the sake of those who went through fire and water
for the sanctification of Your Name.
According to the Kippur version
Our God and God of our fathers, may our prayer come before You,
and do not hide Yourself from our supplication, for we are not so brazen-faced
and stiff-necked as to say before You, Lord our God and God of our fathers,
we are righteous and have not sinned; but we and our fathers
have sinned, we have been iniquitous, we have transgressed. We have turned away from Your commandments and from Your laws
which are good, and it has not profited us. And You are righteous in all that has come
upon us, for You have acted truthfully and we have done wickedly. What shall we say
before You, Who dwells on high, and what shall we relate before You, Who dwells in the
heavens? Do You not know all things, both hidden and revealed?

Parashat Beshalach Kafar
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines,
although that was near; for God said: 'Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war,
and they return to Egypt.' But God led the people about, by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea; and armed
the children of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt. And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him;
for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying: 'God will surely remember you;
and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.' And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham,
in the edge of the wilderness. And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way;
and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night. He took not away
the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. And the Lord spoke unto Moses,
saying: 'Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon, over against it shall ye encamp by the sea. And Pharaoh will say
of the children of Israel: They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in. And I will harden
Pharaoh's heart, and he shall follow after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; and the Egyptians shall know
that I am the Lord.' And they did so. And it was told the king of Egypt that the people were fled; and the heart of
Pharaoh and of his servants was turned towards the people, and they said: 'What is this we have done, that we have let
Israel go from serving us?' And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him;
and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them.
And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel;
for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. And the Egyptians pursued after them, and overtook
them encamping by the sea, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, by Pi-
hahiroth, before Baal-zephon. And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up
their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were sore afraid; and the children of Israel cried out
unto the Lord. And they said unto Moses: 'Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away
to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? Is not this
the word that we spoke unto thee in Egypt, saying: Let us alone, that we may serve
the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.'
And Moses said unto the people: 'Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today; for whereas ye have seen
the Egyptians today, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.'
And the Lord said unto Moses: 'Wherefore criest thou unto Me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. And lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand
over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go
after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten Me honour upon Pharaoh,
upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.' And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar
of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them; and it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness,
yet gave it light by night; and the one came not near the other all the night. And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back
by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. And the Egyptians pursued, and went
after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. And it came to pass in the morning watch, that the Lord looked forth unto
the camp of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and discomfited the camp of the Egyptians. And He took off their chariot wheels, and made them to drive heavily;
so that the Egyptians said: 'Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the Lord fighteth for them against the Egyptians.'
Parashat Yitro Kafar
Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel His people, how that the Lord had brought
Israel out of Egypt. And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after she had been sent away, and her two sons;
of whom the name of the one was Gershom; for he said: 'I have been a stranger in a strange land'; and the name of the other was Eliezer: 'for the God
of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.' And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness
where he was encamped, at the mount of God. And he said unto Moses: 'I thy father-in-law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two
sons with her.' And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed down and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came
into the tent. And Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all
the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the Lord delivered them. And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the Lord had done to Israel, in that
He had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

Sermon
Why was the portion of the Menorah juxtaposed with the portion of the Princes? Because when
Aaron saw the dedication of the Princes, his mind was weakened because he was not with them
in the dedication, neither he nor his tribe. The Holy One, Blessed be He, said to him: By your life, yours is greater
than theirs, for you kindle and prepare the lamps. And behold, it must be understood
what kind of consolation this is; if they offered sacrifices and he kindles
the lamps, is not this and that both service? And what advantage is there to the kindling of
the lamps over the sacrifices? And furthermore, it must be understood what He meant by saying
"By your life, yours is greater than theirs," etc.
Sermon for the Bride's Sabbath
Speak to the children of Israel that they take for Me an offering, etc. And it must be understood
what is the meaning of the expression "that they take for Me an offering," for should it not have said "and they shall give
to Me an offering"? And also it must be understood what is the meaning of the term "offering" (Terumah), and also it must
be understood what He meant by saying "from every man whose heart prompts him
you shall take My offering." For did not all of Israel give equally the half-
shekel? And what is this that He said "whose heart prompts him"? And also it must be understood
what He meant by saying "And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, and silver,
and brass," etc. For are not all these things physical matters,
and how is it possible that His Presence should dwell upon them? And also it must be understood
what He meant by saying "And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them," etc.
And behold, it must be understood what He meant by saying "among them" and did not say "within it."
And behold, it is known what our Sages of blessed memory said: "And I will dwell among them"—within each and every
one of Israel. And with this will be understood what He said, "that they take for Me an offering,"
for it is difficult why He said "and they shall take" and did not say "and they shall give." And behold, it must
be understood what He meant by saying "that they take for Me an offering"—for My name, etc.
And behold, it is known what our Sages of blessed memory said: Anyone who fulfills the Torah
out of poverty, his end will be to fulfill it out of wealth; and anyone who neglects the Torah
out of wealth, his end will be to neglect it out of poverty, etc.
Another sermon for a Bar Mitzvah, etc. And this is what the verse says: "Rejoice, O young man,
in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart,
and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment."
And behold, it must be understood what he meant by saying "Rejoice, O young man, in your youth," etc.
For did not King Solomon, peace be upon him, say: "Therefore remove anger from your heart, and put away evil
from your flesh; for childhood and youth are vanity." And how did he say "Rejoice, O young man,
in your youth," etc.? And behold, it must be understood what he meant by saying "and walk in the ways
of your heart and in the sight of your eyes," for did not the Torah say: "and that you seek not
after your own heart and your own eyes"? And how did King Solomon, peace be upon him, say
"and walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes," etc.? And behold, it must be understood
what he meant by saying "but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment."
And behold, it must be understood what he meant by saying "but know that for all these," etc.
And behold, it is known what our Sages of blessed memory said, etc.

who says, "O Lord, my blood ⟦is safe⟧ ⟦poison⟧ ⟦of love⟧,"
and fear has entered his heart, he shall be in safety by the permission of
God Almighty. And he who writes these names in a glass bowl
and erases them with rose water and gives it to a woman to drink who is carrying in her womb
a dead fetus, it shall come out of her condition by the permission of God Almighty -
And if the patient is bewitched, then they must be read
over a cup of rose water and given to the bewitched patient to drink, for he
shall be healed by the permission of God Almighty, and the magic shall be nullified by the permission of God.
And we have narrated from some of the sheikhs, may God Almighty have mercy on them, that
the benefit of these mighty names cannot be counted or limited.
And it has come in the books that whoever writes them on a piece of paper and places it
in a turban, he shall be victorious over his enemies by the permission of God
Almighty. And the known sheikh said in the Book of Benefits that these
mighty names, whoever reads them every day seven times, he

the cold, and from the snow, and from the rain that spoils the crops, and from
every evil by the permission of God Almighty.

And it has been narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, that he said regarding
the virtue of these names, that God Almighty has entrusted an angel from
the archangels to protect the one who writes these names
and carries them with him, so neither mankind nor jinn shall have power over him,
nor the devil, nor the tyrannical sultan, for he shall be in
the safety of God Almighty. And we have narrated from some of the sheikhs, may God

Holy Sabbath Night
At the time a person comes to his home on Sabbath night, he should find a lamp lit and a table set
and a bed made, and a good angel places his hand on his head and says: May it be His will
that there be another Sabbath like this, and an evil angel answers Amen against his will; and if not,
the evil angel places his hand on his head and says: May it be His will that there be another Sabbath
like this, and a good angel answers Amen against his will, etc. Thus far are the words of the Holy Zohar
in Parashat Vayakhel page 204 side b, and these are its words: Come and see, when a man leaves the synagogue
on Sabbath night, two holy angels who are appointed over him accompany him,
one on the right and one on the left. When he comes to his house and finds a lamp lit
and a table prepared and a bed prepared
and his wife adorned in precious garments and all his house prepared and a lamp lit,
when he sees this, that angel on the right says: May it be His will that it be so
every Sabbath and Sabbath, and the angel on the left answers Amen against his will. And if not
in this manner, that he does not find his house prepared and the lamp is not lit and the table
is without a meal and his house is not as it should be and his wife is not adorned,
and he comes from the synagogue and finds it so, that angel on the left
says: May it be His will that it be so every Sabbath and Sabbath, and the angel
on the right answers Amen against his will. And because of this, when a man comes from the synagogue
he must prepare himself in his house and be joyful on that night and be
joyful in that meal, which is the meal of faith, and be joyful
with the joy of the Torah and with the joy of the commandment. When he sees that it is so in his house,
then the Shekhinah dwells upon him and all those angels who are appointed
over him, all of them rejoice with him. Thus far its words.
Or he shall say "Peace be unto you, ministering angels" etc. three times etc. except
that he shall say "May your coming be for peace, angels of peace" etc. three times etc. ⟦line⟧
And afterwards he shall say "A Woman of Valor" etc. and afterwards he shall sanctify over wine specifically
and not over the bread because of the honor of the Sabbath, and afterwards he shall wash his hands
and recite the blessing "Who brings forth [bread]".

With the help of Heaven, Thursday, 22nd of Adar II, 5687
After the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before
the Lord and died. And the Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two
sons of Aaron, etc. And the Lord said to Moses: Speak to Aaron your brother
that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil before
the mercy seat which is upon the ark, that he die not; for I will appear in the cloud upon
the mercy seat. With this shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering
and a ram for a burnt offering. He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh
Parashat Vayera, to him glory
And it came to pass on the eighth day, that Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of
Israel; and he said unto Aaron: Take thee a bull-calf
for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering, without blemish, and offer them before the Lord. And unto
the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying: Take ye a he-goat for a sin-offering;
and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt-offering; and an ox and a ram
for peace-offerings, to sacrifice before the Lord; and a meal-offering mingled with oil; for
to-day the Lord appeareth unto you. And they brought that which Moses commanded
before the tent of meeting; and all the congregation drew near and stood
before the Lord. And Moses said: This is the thing which the Lord commanded that ye should do;
and the glory of the Lord shall appear unto you. And Moses said unto Aaron: Draw near unto
the altar, and offer thy sin-offering, and thy burnt-offering, and make atonement for thyself,
and for the people; and present the offering of the people, and make atonement for them; as the Lord commanded.
To the foundation of His glory, and the heavens shall merit His name, and in His salvation shall exult
and rejoice Israel. In Salem also is His tabernacle set, and His dwelling-place in Zion. The voice of the Lord
is upon the waters; the God of glory thundereth, even the Lord upon many waters. The voice of the Lord
is with power; the voice of the Lord is with majesty. The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh
the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion
like a young wild-ox. The voice of the Lord cleaveth flames of fire.
Parashat Vayechi Yaakov
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; so the days of
Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred forty and seven years. And the time drew near
that Israel must die; and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him: If
now I have found favour in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,
and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt.
But when I sleep with my fathers, thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me
in their burying-place. And he said: I will do as thou hast said. And he said: Swear
unto me. And he swore unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.
And it came to pass after these things, that one said to Joseph: Behold, thy father
is sick. And he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
And one told Jacob, and said: Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee; and Israel strengthened
himself, and sat upon the bed.
Parashat Lech Lecha, glory
Now the Lord said unto Abram: Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred,
and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a nation
great, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing. And I will bless
them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
So Abram went, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him; and Abram
was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

For I know that after my death
etc. For every man shall pass away and die, and on the day of death he shall remember every
deed he did all the days of his life, and then he will regret and be embittered and sigh
and say, woe is me, what have I done, and how did I forget the day of death and did not prepare
provisions for a long journey, and how did I not fear the great and awesome Day of Judgment
in which they will give an account and reckoning for every jot and tittle and for every single step,
and then he will regret every single moment that passed him by in idleness and he did not engage
in Torah and commandments, which are the ones that accompany a person to the World to Come -
and regarding this it is said: And remember your Creator in the days of your youth. Happy is the man who has
the merit of ancestors and good deeds, and on the day of death he shall rest upon his bed
in peace and stand for his lot at the end of days, Amen Selah. And all this a person shall remember
all his days and it shall be before his eyes always, and he shall not sin and shall perform
complete repentance before his Creator before the day of death comes and he regrets -
and regarding this it is said: Repent one day before your death, and all his days he shall be in repentance
before his Creator and he shall have a good portion in the World to Come, Amen, may it be so.
The sage said: Death is a bridge that carries a person from this world
to the World to Come, and this world is like a corridor before the World
to Come; prepare yourself in the corridor so that you may enter the banquet hall. And every person
who has sense will understand and realize that all his days are vanity and a pursuit of wind, and there is
no profit for him in all his labor that he labors under the sun. And what profit has a man in all
his labor that he labors under the sun, and all his days are like a passing shadow, and there is no one
who can save him from the hand of death.
