Notes
This document contains information which is sent out in advance of the issue of Certificates, and while every effort has been
made to ensure that the contents are accurate, the University reserves the right to make corrections. It is not a Certificate,
and must not be regarded as such.
The results overleaf are indicated by grades which are to be interpreted as follows:
Grade
1 Advanced level Pass with Distinction
2
3
4 Advanced level Passes
5
6
7 Ordinary level Passes
8
9 Failure
(The Grades 1 to 9 are in descending order of merit)
An O in the Grade column indicates that a candidate was entered for the subject but has been marked ‘ABSENT’.
In French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian, two grades will appear (e.g. 5 4). The first represents the grade obtained in the subject as a whole
including the oral test, and the second the result for the oral test on its own.
In Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biology and Geology, two grades will appear (e.g. 6 6). The first represents the grade obtained in the subject as
a whole including the practical test, and the second the grade for the practical test on its own.
If a candidate has failed in a subject because of poor English or inferior presentation of the work a separate notification to this effect will be sent.
No further information about performance in the examination will be supplied by the University. The decisions of the Examiners, which have been
reached after the most careful consideration, are final.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE AWARD OF CERTIFICATES IN CERTAIN AREAS
Private Candidates sitting for the examination in Aden, Argentina, Hong Kong, Kenya, Mauritius, Somali Republic and Zanzibar are required to pass in a
prescribed minimum number of subjects in order to qualify for the award of a certificate. If you are one of these candidates and have not qualified for a
certificate the word ‘FAILED’ will appear in the space immediately below your Candidate Number. If there is nothing in the space it indicates that you
have qualified for a certificate. If, however, you possess one of the necessary exempting qualifications and are eligible for a certificate in respect of any
subjects passed, the word ‘FAILED’ will not appear even if you have not passed in any subjects.
Certificates
⟦illegible⟧es for successful candidates will be sent to the Overseas Authority for distribution as soon as possible after the publication of these results.
⟦illegible⟧ who have passed in subjects at both levels will receive two certificates, one for Ordinary level subjects and another for Advanced.
