These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish schools. The documents consist of individual student records including photographs, exam scores, student certifications, admissions forms, letters of recommendation, applications to foreign institution, doctor’s notes, and correspondence regarding student affairs. In addition, there are several copies of the 1960-1961 Shamash Secondary School class rosters for grade/form five.

Notes

This document contains information which is sent out in advance of the issue of Certificates, and while every effort has been made to ensure that the contents are accurate, the University reserves the right to make corrections. It is not a Certificate, and must not be regarded as such.
The results overleaf are indicated by grades which are to be interpreted as follows:
Grades 1 to 6 are grades of pass arranged in descending order of merit from Grade 1; Grades 7 to 9 are grades of failure similarly arranged. To help unsuccessful candidates to assess their future prospects Grades 7 to 9 are so arranged that 7 indicates that the margin of failure was narrow, 8 that the margin was wider and 9 that the candidate did not obtain more than about one-third of the marks for the subject as a whole.
An O in the Grade column indicates that a candidate was entered for the subject but has been marked 'ABSENT'.
In French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian, two columns of grades are given. The left-hand one represents the result obtained in the subject as a whole, including the oral test, and the second the result in the oral examination on its own. There are four oral grades also arranged in descending order of merit; Grades 1, 2 and 3 are pass grades and Grade 4 indicates a failure. Failure in the oral test does not necessarily indicate failure in the subject as a whole.
If a candidate has failed in a subject because of poor English or inferior presentation of the work, a separate notification to this effect will be sent.
No further information about performance in the examination will be supplied by the University. The decisions of the Examiners, which have been reached after the most careful consideration, are final.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE AWARD OF CERTIFICATES IN CERTAIN AREAS

Private Candidates sitting for the examination in Aden, Argentina, Hong Kong, Kenya, Mauritius, Somali Republic and Zanzibar are required to pass in a prescribed minimum number of subjects in order to qualify for the award of a certificate. If you are one of these candidates and have not qualified for a certificate the word 'FAILED' will appear in the space immediately below your Candidate Number. If there is nothing in the space it indicates that you have qualified for a certificate. If, however, you possess one of the necessary exempting qualifications and are eligible for a certificate in respect of any subjects passed, the word 'FAILED' will not appear even if you have not passed in any subjects.
Only subjects in which you have obtained Grades 1 to 6 (inclusive) will appear on the certificate, if you have qualified for one. In areas where a satisfactory standard of attainment, which may be below the normal pass grades, is accepted in English Language, this subject will not appear on the certificate unless Grade 6 or a better Grade has been obtained in it.

Certificates

Certificates for successful candidates will be sent to the Overseas Authority for distribution as soon as possible after the publication of these results. Candidates who have passed in subjects at both levels will receive two certificates, one for Ordinary level subjects and another for Advanced.

وهم من الصف الخامس الاعدادى في يوم الاثنين الموافق ١٩٦١/٣/٢٧ بعد الظهر بالرغم من
تنبيه الادارة للطلاب مرارا بضرورة المواظبة في المدرسة ، فقد قررت ادارة المدرسة خصم
خمس درجات من معدل المواظبة لكل منهم .
هذا مع العلم بانه قد سبق وخصم عشر درجات من معدل مواظبة كل من :

وعلى ذلك يكون مجموع الدرجات المخصومة من معدل مواظبتهم قد بلغ خمس عشرة درجة

يرجى احاطتكم علماً بانه بناء على غيابات ولدكم عن المدرسة فقد بلغ مجموع الدرجات
المخصومة من درجات المواظبة له حتى تاريخ ⟦٢١ / ١ / ١٩٥١⟧ ( ⟦٢٠⟧ ) درجات وان ادارة المدرسة
تود اعلامكم بان المادة (٥٧) من نظام المدارس المرقم (٣١) لسنة ١٩٥٢ بخصوص الغيابات عن
المدرسة تنص بما يلي :
" تعتبر درجة المواظبة الكاملة مائة في ابتداء كل سنة دراسية وتخصم درجتان من درجات
المواظبة عن كل يوم يتغيب الطالب فيه بدون عذر مشروع ويعتبر الطالب راسباً في صفه اذا خصم
من درجات المواظبة ٥١ درجة فما فوق ويبلغ ولي الطالب بالدرجات المخصومة عندما تبلغ ١٠
و ٢٠ و ٣٠ و ٤٠ وتعلن في لوحة الاعلانات واذا غاب الطالب عشرين يوماً متتالية بلا سبب مقبول
فيكتب الى وليه انذاراً بانه اذا لم يرجع الطالب الى المدرسة خلال خمسة ايام من تاريخ الانذار
ويواظب بصورة منتظمة فانه يفصل عن المدرسة لتلك السنة "
فيرجى ملاحظة ذلك والتعاون مع الادارة في مراقبة ولدكم وحثه على عدم الانقطاع
عن الدوام في المستقبل .

in June 1955. This examination is, in standard, equivalent
roughly to the Common Entrance Examination of the English
School or to grade 7 of the American School.

2 - Iraq State Baccalaureate Examination for Intermediate Education
in June 1959.

3 - London University General Certificate of Education Examination

At present the above candidate is attending the Fifth
Form of Shamash Secondary School and is making progress. -
In June 1961 he will be sitting for the Iraq State Baccalaureate
Examination for Secondary Education, Scientific Section. -
To judge by his Secondary School record, he should be able to
pass this examination satisfactorily in due course. He will
then be eligible for entry into any higher Institute of
University standard in Iraq.
