Description
These are archival documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. There is correspondence from the 1930s-1940s between the Jewish Lay Council, Jewish Hospitals Committee and various school administrations. Other documents include court cases, requests for financial help, and deeds and property records owned by the Baghdadi Jewish community. There are also architectural drawing plans, contracts, and correspondence discussing price negotiations. This is followed by student files from the 1960s, containing individual student records, exam scores, student certifications, admissions forms, letters of recommendation, photographs, and correspondence regarding student affairs. There is a printed booklet notating a teachers’ school service record from 1944. There are collections of receipts from the Administrative Committee for Iraqi Jews, the South British Insurance Company, the Rafidain Insurance Company, various local vendors and taxi services, pharmacies, utilities, as well as rosters of patient information and correspondence from the Ministry of Culture of Iranian Schools in Iraq.

Excellency
The Honorable Vice President of the Lay Council
Greetings and respect
It is no secret to your Excellency that our school is almost too narrow for its students and is crowded
to an extent unparalleled in other schools. Official primary schools
in Baghdad do not exceed one hundred and twenty or one hundred and fifty students,
while our school includes such a number in a single one of its classes, a matter which
has made us think long and hard about solving this issue out of fear for the students' health and out of mercy for them from
dizziness and diseases, especially during examination times when we are forced to seat them
in one place in a state of tightness and crowding. Today an opportunity has arisen for us which we present
to your esteemed council for consideration and to give a decision for its implementation as soon as possible.
Exactly opposite the school there is a ruined place that has long been a focal point for filth and dirt
thrown into it from neighboring houses, and the Capital Secretariat recently ordered the demolition of its walls.
This property belongs to the endowments of the Midrash School and the Mandili Prayer Hall; it can
be leveled and leased for our account for a small amount to be used as a place for examinations and a hall for lectures
and anthems, so that we may thereby relieve the severe overcrowding of the school.
This is what we wanted to present to your Excellency, and we have firm hope that you will appreciate
this vital issue. Respectfully yours,
School Principal
⟦Nassim⟧

Honorable Vice President of the Respected Lay Council
It is not hidden from you that the employees of the Midrash schools are demanding the salaries
accumulated from five months to fifteen months, and most of them are poor and needy, and in
every week several petitions are submitted to us from them requesting assistance, and we have deliberated on
their case many times, but we saw no choice but to request assistance from your respected council
by ordering the payment of a portion of the Midrash claims that are on the community fund, or that you pay
us the allocations for the three months of July, August, and September in advance so that we can manage the administration.
Our committee has appointed one of its members, Yamin Murad, to attend your respected council for deliberation
on this matter, the budget, and the new deficit. With much respect;
The President
