Special instructions for making some amendments to the curricula and textbooks of mathematics for intermediate and preparatory schools
according to what was decided by the Council of Education in its third session held on 1/19/1958.
Plane Geometry
A - First Grade -
1- The teaching of the research related to trigonometric ratios is deleted from the first-grade book.
2- The teaching of ⟦theoretical⟧ proofs for logarithms from (1 to 12 with their exercises as they appeared in the second-grade book) is added to the first-grade curriculum.
B - Second Grade -
1- Operations (7, 8, and 9) are deleted, and what relates to these operations is deleted from exercises (25), which are the problems numbered (28, 29, and 30).
2- Problem number 26 is to be left out from exercises 28.
3- The teacher should not overindulge in numerical area problems such as the problems in exercises 30, for example, because the student has already studied them in arithmetic.
C - Third Grade -
1- In exercises 39, importance is given to exercises 34 and 38 because of their importance as they show that the measurement of the angle resulting from the intersection of two lines inside or outside a circle is by the inscribed angle or the central angle.
2- The measurement topics mentioned on page 69 and the related problems should be reviewed quickly because they were mentioned in the arithmetic curriculum.
3- In exercises 46, problems from number 31 to 47 are to be left out.
4- The geometric proofs for theorems 47 and 48, which are similar to the proof of the Pythagorean theorem mentioned on page 122, are to be left out, and what was mentioned on pages 119 and 120 is sufficient.
5- The proof of theorems 50 and 51 E - ⟦pertaining⟧ to them is deleted, which is the proof mentioned on pages 127 to 129 with the problems related to them, and the second proof mentioned on pages 164 to 169 is sufficient.
6- The teaching of linearity 20 and exercises 52 is deleted.
7- The second proof for theorems 52 and 53 mentioned on page 152 is deleted.
8- Importance is given to theorem 58 due to the need for it when researching the triangle of forces in mechanics.
9- Difficult examples and the exercises that follow them from page 212 to 218 are deleted.
10- Appendix No. 1, research on limits, is deleted.
11- Appendix No. 2 is emphasized.
Trigonometry and Algebra
⟦Objective⟧ Introduction
We recommend that the teaching of algebra and trigonometry in the fourth grade be entrusted to one teacher to spend the scheduled hours as needed; for example, he can take from the trigonometry time for algebra when he finds a need for that.
D - Trigonometry in the Fourth Scientific Grade -
It is not necessary to expand excessively on the study of identities and equations; rather, the important thing is to emphasize solving the triangle in its various cases.
E - Algebra in the Fourth Scientific Grade -
Some teachers spend a long time repeating what students studied in intermediate schools, so they do not have enough time to teach the curriculum prescribed for this grade in a proficient manner; therefore, we recommend remedying this deficiency.
F - Algebra in the Fifth Scientific Grade -
1- The subject of quadratic equations with two unknowns is lengthy, and a limited number of problems that illustrate the basic cases can be sufficient, which are:-
First - That one of the two equations is of the first degree.
Second - " " " " homogeneous.
Third - That each of " " " " "
Fourth - Some problems require ⟦complete⟧ analysis.
To be continued ⟦line⟧
Page 227
((( 2 )))
02 The topic of binomial expansion is studied more broadly to include finding the largest coefficient or the largest term.
03 It is sufficient to focus on the main forms of sequence laws so as not to burden students with memorizing unnecessary scattered forms.
G - Solid Geometry in the Fifth Scientific Grade -
The following points should be taken into account:
01 Upon completing the study of a specific topic, such as the relationship of a line to a plane or cases of perpendicularity and parallelism between ⟦line⟧
planes, those cases and related theorems are summarized and compared.
02 Attention to numerical exercises and practical exercises.
03 " " which investigate the rotation of lines or planes around an axis due to their importance in integral calculus.

Subject: Book requests from the warehouse
Most schools have become accustomed to submitting their requests for textbooks annually according to the students' needs
at the beginning of the school year, and we have noticed that this is impractical as many students lose their books
during the year or some of them need them during school days, especially ⟦transferred⟧ students
from other schools where it is difficult for them to obtain books, so they are forced to visit the ⟦warehouse⟧
to obtain their needs for books, contrary to the procedures followed in this regard, as the task of
the warehouse is to provide schools with books and not students individually, in addition to what that requires
of a lengthy ⟦procedure⟧ to obtain a book. Therefore, we believe that schools should add to their request a reserve
of books at a rate of 10 percent of the original request to meet the needs of students in emergency situations.
What remains of these books until the end of the school year can be added to the needs for the second year.
Hoping to observe this with all precision.

Many English language teachers have become accustomed to not setting a daily lesson plan under the pretext
that they have a guide containing all the teaching plans ( ) and they may teach
in the prescribed book without making use of this guide during their teaching, and most of them claim
that they have previously studied the lesson in their home and that the ⟦alluded to⟧ book is present in their home and thus
they fall into problems and mistakes that they could avoid if they used the mentioned book and brought it to the class
Please instruct all male and female English language teachers in the Liwas to follow the following:-
1/ Recording the lesson plan distributed over the weeks and months of the year as is the custom followed by teachers of
other subjects.
2/ Referring in the daily plan in the preparation notebook to the lesson number and the paragraphs intended to be taught
⟦and⟧ referring to the pages of the plans found in the mentioned guide
3/ Bringing the mentioned book along with the prescribed book into the classroom to make use of it.

The handwriting of students in primary schools is progressing from good to better, and the handwriting of students in
the fifth grades is disconnected according to the models in the first and second booklets, but this handwriting begins
with the third booklet starting from page ten to the end of the booklet.
A portion of the teachers do not look at this aspect seriously, therefore I request that instructions be given
to all male and female teachers of the English language in the Liwas to do the following:-
1 / Emphasizing to sixth-grade students the necessity of writing in a manner according to the models found in the third
booklet prescribed for the sixth grade from page ten to the end of the booklet.
2 / Emphasizing to students when they solve the exercises of the prescribed book that they should write in a cursive manner in the ordinary
notebooks.
3 / Requesting teachers to use cursive writing when they write on the blackboard.
Furthermore, students in the first intermediate grade will continue with this type of writing in the fourth booklet
starting from next year.
Please be so kind as to send a copy of this circular to all teacher training institutes and educational
courses.
