To understand the matter of Ben Azzai who said that his soul desired the Torah and he did not want to marry a woman
And they challenged him: But you are neglecting [the commandment of] procreation! And he replied: What shall I do, for my soul desires the Torah, and it is possible for the world
to be sustained by others. And behold, on the surface his words are puzzling: just because his soul desires the Torah,
should he nullify a positive commandment from the Torah, which is the first commandment of the Torah, and also so that the world will not be desolate, G-d forbid?
And it is even more difficult, as we say in the Gemara that one who is engaged in a commandment is exempt from [another] commandment, but specifically in a commandment that is impossible
to perform through others; but if it is possible to perform it through others, he is not exempt. And behold, this commandment
of procreation can indeed be performed through others, and if so, why is he exempt? And since he is not exempt, how
did he say "What shall I do, for my soul desires the Torah"? And also regarding what he said, "and it is possible for the world to be sustained by
others"—because of this should he be exempt from this commandment? Are not all commandments possible to be performed through
others? Shall he exempt himself, etc.? For behold, he is one of the world, and if all the people of the world were to say so,
the world would be desolate, G-d forbid. And also regarding what he said, "and it is possible for the world to be sustained by others," behold,
he explained his words, meaning from the perspective of the commandment of settling the world, and said that it would be sustained by others; but the positive
commandment of procreation which is cast upon him, how could he be exempt from it? And what he said does not exempt him.
Furthermore, as we say in the first chapter of Kiddushin, page 29, side b: Our Rabbis taught: to study Torah or to marry a woman—let him study Torah and afterwards
marry a woman; and if it is impossible for him without a woman, let him marry a woman and afterwards study Torah. Rav Yehuda said in the name of Shmuel:
The law is: one marries a woman and afterwards studies Torah. Rabbi Yochanan said: [With] a millstone around his neck, shall he engage in Torah?
And they do not disagree: this [is for] us and that [is for] them. And if so, how did Ben Azzai say "for my soul desires the Torah" and be exempt
from it? (And some say he was not exempt, but rather he would sit and preach, etc., and he had no other
leisure; implying that due to the preoccupation with study he was exempt. And it is not understood, for ultimately the commandment is cast
upon him, and how is he exempt by this? And also that he gave a reason for it, that the world would be sustained by others—and what does this matter
to the positive commandment cast upon him? Just because there are others in the world who fulfill the commandment, shall he be exempt?)
And know that this matter, although the commentators labored and toiled to settle it in an understandable way according to the plain meaning,
yet the truth is that these Tannaim, their words are deep and require a broad and true explanation. And behold,
know that procreation in this world below is an example of procreation above in the upper worlds.
For the essence of the rectification of all the worlds is through procreation, meaning through the union of male and female.
The question:
If so, how is it possible that he would be exempt from this matter, since the whole world depends on this
in the upper worlds? And since it is so, if one of them is missing, there will be a great lack and a defect
in the upper worlds. And the secret of the matter is that Ben Azzai's soul was from the aspect of Malchut, and this is the secret of "Peh" [Mouth],
and Rav Gad explained that it was from the aspect of Malchut. And it is known that Malchut is the aspect of the female; and since he was
from the aspect of the female, the matter of the union below did not apply to him, for the union is from the side of the male to the female.
And since he was from the aspect of the female, the matter of the union below did not apply to him. And this is why he said, "for my soul
desires the Torah," for the Torah is the aspect of the male, and he was the aspect of the female, and he wanted to unite with the Torah
which is the aspect of the male. And this is why he said, "and it is possible for the world to be sustained by others," meaning since the world

and the king, the luminary of the ascent downwards upon all the levels that spread into the Kingdom of the Supreme Luminary,
which is the ascent of this Wisdom within it, which is called the Wisdom of below, in the manner of the luminary and the matters.
Accordingly, then these levels shall hint at the Foundation, which is the ascent,
below, and so the secret of the word 'Adonai Tzedek' (Lord of Justice), for it is good, and You are holy, etc., and a righteous one,
the world, for this is the secret of the Foundation and the Shekhinah together, and they are called 'the righteous' to serve you, and there is no wicked one,
to use this light, as is written in 'Tzofnat Paneach,' and the deeds of the wicked, and He hid them, etc., and the hiding of
this light means above, and this light was hidden in it due to the abundance of the lower union from life in the Zohar,
the complete, and this was good; 'and there was light,' etc., it enters the point of Zion constantly, as the secret of Wisdom is, etc.,

And this matter of 'and there was light' and 'it was' that passed on the first day, it illuminated from one end of the world to the other, for the secret of
the upper world it is, and the secret of 'and there was light' and 'it was' enters the point of Zion, through which this will shine forever, for the secret of
A is the complete Loving-kindness, the pillar 'and there was light,' and its beginning is simple, which is the end of the upper

for the righteous, the righteous one of the world, and in the tongue of Solomon who said, 'For there is the name of the Lord my God of my mercies,' and this is explained,
