He is Duraid bin al-Simmah, one of the Arab knights of Bani Jashm
from the tribe of Hawazin, and it is said that he is one of the most famous poet-knights
of the Arabs and the most frequent in raiding. Duraid lived until the rise of Islam
but he did not convert. He went out to the Battle of Hunayn while ⟦acting on⟧
his own opinion and was killed on that day. He also had three brothers, one of whom
was Abdullah, and they died in different raids. The Banu
Ghatafan killed his brother Abdullah because Duraid raided them and stole
their camels. His brother Abdullah stopped to divide the spoils of war,
and Duraid tried to convince him to withdraw for fear that the
Banu Ghatafan would catch up with them. However, his brother Abdullah insisted on his opinion
