Student Folders and Book Lists, Frank Iny and Shamash Secondary Schools

Description

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish schools. There is one folder containing student records (including photographs), exam scores, and correspondence between schools regarding student certification. The other folders contain book lists of textbooks to be used by various grade levels at the Frank Iny and Shamash Secondary Schools for the English and French tracks; there are indications of how many books were needed to order and which books corresponded with requirements of the General Education Certificate, 1968-1970. Also included is one “List of G.C.E. Booklets of Past Exam Papers,” book lists for 1960-1970 for the English track, and 1961-1971 for the French-track classes.

To the parents of students graduating from the sixth primary grade for the summer of 1962.
Due to the re-application of the Certificat curriculum for the French language in the first intermediate grade, as was the practice last year.
Furthermore, in a desire to provide the opportunity for outstanding students among the graduates of primary education for the summer of 1962 to enroll at the beginning of the school year in the French section of the first intermediate grade, and given what this branch requires in terms of a strong foundation in other subjects, especially in Arithmetic and English, in addition to French, the administration of this school has decided to conduct special examinations to select students for the French branch and other branches on the following dates:
Tuesday, October 2, 1962 - from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM - English Language Exam.
Tuesday, October 2, 1962 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM - Arithmetic Exam.
Wednesday, October 3, 1962 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM - French Language Exam.
Please note that the school administration will attempt to distribute students who are not proficient in French but who excel in the Arithmetic and English exams into a special section to ensure the continuation of their academic level in the coming years.
Note: 1- The selection exam questions in the three subjects will be set from the materials contained in the following books:
(A) English Language:
1. The Oxford English Course for Iraq Book III.
2. Brighter Grammar Book I and Book II.
3. Stories from the Near East.
(B) Arithmetic:
Mastery of the sixth primary grade curriculum.
(C) French Language: (For students wishing to join the French section)
1. Francais cours Moyen 8eme et 7eme (Cressot et Royer)
2. Grammaire-Conjugaison-Orthographe-Cours elementaire-classe de 10eme et 9eme - Berthou-gremaux.
3. Calcul Vivant: Cours Moyen- 1ere annee-Classe de 8eme-Vassort.
Note: 2- The administration of this school has printed a booklet to guide the student on how to study the required materials in the French language during the summer vacation for the purpose of preparing them for the selection exam in this subject. It has been posted on the school announcement board for review.
