Sub / Competition for authoring literacy books
The Ministry of Education wishes to provide an opportunity for specialists, experienced individuals, and teachers to contribute to authoring
basic books for teaching reading and writing to adult illiterates whose ages range between sixteen
years to forty years. Therefore, it announces a competition for authoring the following books within six months of the date
above, according to the conditions set forth below. The winners of this competition will be granted the prescribed fees
for authoring school textbooks.
Books

1- Reading book (Part One) for the first year, approximately (150) pages.
2- Reading book (Part Two) for the second year = = (180) pages.
3- Teacher's Guide book for teaching the reading book in its two parts, approximately (120) pages.
Conditions
⟦line⟧
1- It is preferred that more than one author participates in authoring these books.
2- These books are to be authored according to the principles and objectives specific to literacy established in the curriculum
of literacy for the year 1966, which includes defining the stages of study and the number of classes,
means, and plans ⟦line⟧ etc.
3- The first part of the reading book shall be authored according to a method that is a mixture of the global method
and the phonetic method, starting with the perception of global units and focusing on meaning from the beginning,
and taking care to train the student systematically on perceiving the parts of the word structure after a short,
appropriate period. This includes knowing the shapes of letters, vowels, and linking them to their sounds -
in addition to overall care for other basic aspects of reading and writing, such as comprehension, perception,
making the book and its words recognizable at first glance, appreciating the read material, and acquiring skills of correct,
fluent writing. The book should include the necessary exercises to consolidate and develop
the required skills, provided that these exercises are built according to a well-studied plan that takes
into account the progression in training on various skills.
4- The first part of the reading book may adopt the phonetic sequence method, or it may not
adopt it. Each lesson should have a specific subject unit, or this subject unit should be integrated
into a group of sequential lessons. On
5- The second part of the reading book is to be authored, emphasizing that reading and writing are an integrated activity
represented by decoding reading symbols, pronouncing them, understanding their meanings, analyzing them, and writing them, with emphasis
on providing the student with reading and writing habits, their basic skills, and sound attitudes,
and the gradual development of the students' abilities and competencies, making reading and writing lovable to them to ensure -
achieving the stage of fluency in reading and the ability to read simplified books.

The book must include the necessary exercises to achieve the goals referred to.
6/ The authors of the reading book in its two parts should aim to bring the student in terms of
reading and writing to the level of those who have completed the fourth grade of
primary schools.
7/ The guide book for the reading book in its two parts must include instructions on how to
deal with adults during teaching. It should explain the principles upon which the book was based
and explain the fundamentals and methods of teaching reading and writing directly, especially the lessons that
are intended to teach students certain skills. It should address these
lessons with a thorough step-by-step explanation. The guide book must be concerned with providing
sufficient instructions on implementing the exercises for training in various skills
while stating the purpose of each exercise and the method of teaching it, and preparing other models of
exercises not mentioned in the reading book, and noting the auxiliary aids that can be used
during teaching.
8/ The Design Department in the Directorate of Educational Aids will undertake the preparation of the necessary drawings for the winning
books under the supervision of the authors themselves. The authors must indicate on each
page the location and description of the required drawings.
9/ We would like to note that participating in this competition is a great national
service. In view of the literacy project's lack of innovative books sufficient for the purpose of teaching
