To the Honorable Mr. Hakham Sassoon Khedouri, may God protect him
President of the Lay Committee of the Jewish Community in Baghdad
Honorable Master
We, the undersigned, servants of the community for several years in the Department of Slaughter and Inspection in Baghdad,
come to request your honor and the honorable committee to look with a compassionate eye upon our current dire situation
due to the cost of living which rises day by day. We serve the holy community
with faithfulness and devotion, and we have no other income besides the monthly salary
that we receive from the community. As is known to your honor, this salary is not sufficient to support
our household members, especially at this time when all commodities are at a very high price. Therefore, we request from
your honor and from the honorable committee to add a decent supplement to our monthly salary
so that we may live a life of rest and tranquility and be able to fulfill our duty in the holy community
with faith and integrity as always.
In the name of the Ritual Slaughterers
and the Inspectors
in Baghdad
I believe that the esteemed Lay Council appreciates the situation of these employees in these harsh circumstances
and the appreciation will include them in its kindness and assistance 6 / 4 / 942

Our Lay Council decided on 23 / 9 / 943 to transfer the salary of Rabbi Moshe Ibrahim amounting to
3/375 which he receives from the slaughterhouse to the Yeshivot and to exempt him from his duties at the slaughterhouse. Since
the aforementioned person receives a salary from the Yeshivot amounting to one and a half dinars originally, his salary after adding
3/375 dinars becomes four dinars and eight hundred and seventy-five fils, which he will receive from the Yeshivot starting
from the first of October 943, provided that the aforementioned person's continuation in receiving the one and a half dinars of the salary
is contingent upon his continuation of teaching at the Yeshiva in accordance with the Council's decision dated 25 August 943.

To the Honorable Hakham Bashi, may God protect him
In the Holy City
It is true that your honor, our elder teacher, may God shine His goodness upon him, for the hand of God was upon us
to the house of God with us, the matter of the war of Baghdad and the whole country, we remained plundered and empty
nothing remained in our house, as seen in the letter of a certain King
And then our elder teacher in his goodness gave a sum of ⟦11/250⟧
And it is written now that your honor is in the court of God, the glory of the year 5717. The house of God is with us
to be ready before the King, may God shine His goodness upon him, and so God gave with us through the settlement
a sum of 6/500 and so it was written by the manager, may God shine His goodness upon him, the beneficiaries at that time were divided
from the position, God be with us
And now. Our request is that the manager come now, for in truth a little has reached us in the value of our elder teacher
the year of peace from the Magistrate Court of Baghdad, a sum of ⟦6⟧ shekels, and so the beneficiaries shall now be divided
from the whole position, may God shine His goodness upon him, and may it be your honor's will that they be strengthened in the building of the house of God with us
And your honor always, God be with you
