REGULATIONS & DIRECTIONS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE
BEST PAPER FOR SHORT STORY CONTEST.
I. The papers will be passed to the class teacher concerned who shall
sort them into three categories:-
(a) - Papers which certainly are not the student's personal work.
(b) - Papers which are doubtful as to their being wholly the per-
sonal work of the student.
(c) - Papers which are thought to be bona-fide of the student's own
writing & composition.
Group (a) papers will be examined by a second teacher or the
Principal, and if confirmed, will be neglected.
Group (b) papers will pass through the hands of a second tea-
cher and/or the Principal, and those papers which may be thought
to be more or less the genuine work of the student, will be kept
aside. Writers of such papers will be asked to produce one of
their best compositions for the current year. A comparison will
be made, and those papers which are thought trustworthy as to
their standard with the relative student's composition, will be

ting in the competition.
II. A committee shall be formed of 3 members, comprising:-
(a) - The class teacher concerned.
(b) - A second class teacher, if available, for the same language.
(c) - One or two outsiders mastering that language.
The committee shall study all Category (c) papers, and will decide
as to the 3 best out of them all, grading them as first, second
& third.

form a second committee, which will decide as to the best paper

Frank Iny School and Shamash Secondary School
Academic Year 1953 - 1954
Instructions regarding mid-year exams and first semester grades
Teachers and lecturers are requested to note the following and act accordingly.
First -- Submission of the average grades for the second quarter of the academic year (i.e., the average of December and January)
and the average grades for the first half of the current academic year during the week starting on
Sunday morning, January 24, 1954, provided that this is not delayed beyond Friday,
January 29, 1954, so that the administration can record these grades in the school registers
and grade cards and distribute them to students before the mid-year exam.
Second - The mid-year exam begins on Monday, February 8, 1954, and ends at the close of Tuesday,
February 16, 1954, as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, followed by a three-day holiday
starting from Wednesday morning, February 17, 1954, and ending at the close of Saturday, February 20, 1954.
Accordingly, studies will resume after the holiday on the morning of Sunday, February 21, 1954.
Third -- Oral exams in Arabic, English, French, and Religion are held for all classes after
the written exams directly during the mid-year exam days, provided that each teacher informs the students
of this a week before the mid-year exam. The administration has no objection to conducting oral exams
at other times during the week preceding the mid-year exam, provided that this does not affect
the course of daily teaching and that the administration is informed of these dates and students are notified
of them also by the specialized teacher.
Fourth -- The mid-year exam schedule has been posted in the teachers' room, so please review it immediately and contact
the assistant to provide the observations requested by the teachers in this regard to finalize the schedule and make it
final before Tuesday, January 26, 1954.
Fifth -- The administration is ready to provide every teacher or lecturer with Roneo paper and Stencil
if they wish to print the questions, and they must print the questions themselves on the typewriter or write them
by hand on the Stencil paper and supervise their printing and burn the drafts, as the administration
wishes the responsibility for printing the questions to rest solely with the teacher.
Sixth - Please submit the mid-year exam questions to the administration before Friday, January 29, 1954,
in one copy only if the teacher decides to print them by Roneo, and in three copies if they decide otherwise.
The writing of the questions must be very clear, and a separate question sheet should be placed for each subject and each class
individually. Each question sheet should be titled according to the arrangement shown below and according to
the language used in the questions ⟦line⟧.

To the Honorable Gentleman
Sixth Grade Primary
It has appeared from the results of the teachers' report that your son is weak in the French language
to a degree that he cannot continue in the French branch of the first intermediate grade in the academic year
coming. In order to give a second chance to those who have the ability to join the French branch among the students
to complete the intermediate studies in this branch, we have decided to conduct a special exam in the French language
and sciences, which we have named "Entrance Exam to the French Branch of the First Intermediate Grade," and it will
allow any student who passed the Baccalaureate exam for primary studies to participate in this exam
which will be held in late September next 1953. And there will be accepted into the French branch of
the first intermediate grade of the next academic year every student who passes this exam successfully.
Therefore, it was necessary to bring your attention to this matter and to take interest in teaching your son during the summer vacation
the French language; perhaps that will help prepare him to a degree that guarantees his success in the entrance exam.
Please accept our highest respect.
