FRANK INY SCHOOL
French language teaching program
Class: 3rd primary
6 hours of lessons per week.
Work Breakdown
Dictation | 1h
Reading | 1h
Recitation | 1h
Conjugation | 1h
Written test | 1h
Oral test | 1h
| 6h
I Dictation: based on vocabulary.
Three or four easy and complete sentences prepared in class
with the meaning written in Arabic and studied at home.
II Reading: 1) collective: every day for a few minutes.
2) individual: 1h per week.
Remarks:
If the reading is taken from a vocabulary book or
lessons, explain all the words and translate them.
If it is taken from a common reading book:
1) it will be enough to explain the meaning of the story to
capture the interest of the student and not the meaning
of every word.
Translation will not be required. However, if a
student asks for the meaning of a word or phrase, it
must not be refused to him.
2) pay particular attention in the
pronunciation, to the following syllables:
ai = è = ê = est
et = é = er = ez
en = an
on
⟦line⟧
3) pay attention to the period: prolonged pause followed
by a capital letter.
III Recitation: explain the general meaning and the meaning of each word.
Translation will be required. After the student has finished reciting,
ask him the meaning of one or two words. If he does not know it,
lower his grade so that he knows that studying without understanding
is useless.
IV. Conjugation: 1) the student must have a conjugation notebook
which will only contain the present tense of the verbs: have, be, speak,
love, sing and finish, in the affirmative and negative form.
2) Start conjugation six weeks after
the start of the school year.
3) Study one verb per week, but review
continually and repeat the same verbs several times
with different objects.
Ex: I have a notebook, I have a book, I have an eraser etc...
I do not have a notebook, I do not have a book, I do not have an
eraser etc...
Note: after "pas", use "de" instead of "des" or "un".
V. Written test: the student must be able to write correctly,
a question and its answer that he will have prepared the day before at
home by writing them 10 times and understanding the meaning.
If necessary, help the student by writing the question
and answer in Arabic on the board.

The implementation of this system begins in the school year starting in October 1957
taking into account the following:
First - An examination is given at the end of September of each year to students wishing to enroll in this school
(after completing their primary education) in the subjects of Arithmetic, English, and French
to test their abilities, and this exam is called the "Entrance Exam for the Preparatory Class"
Second - In light of this exam, students are divided into two categories:
1- Students who have sufficient knowledge in the three subjects, especially in the subject of
the French language. This category of students joins the "French branch of
the preparatory class"
2- Students who have not mastered sufficient material of the French language or who are completely
ignorant of it. This category of students joins the "English branch of the preparatory class"
Those who do not participate in the entrance exam at all also join this branch.
Third - Since the school year starting in October 1957 is the first year in which
this system is applied. And given that some students had attended seven years instead of six
years in the primary education stage before this date. The school administration may consider
the possibility of admitting the student to the first intermediate class directly if the student shows great
superiority in the results of the entrance exam in all three subjects together, namely Arithmetic,
English, and French together. Provided that the latter arrangement regarding student admission
applies to the 1957 / 1958 school year only.

Respected Parents of Sixth Grade Primary Students
It is no secret to you that the system of this school requires the student to spend seven years
in the primary section (instead of six years) before joining the first grade of intermediate study.
The purpose of this is to strengthen the student's knowledge in foreign languages and arithmetic in particular so that
he can follow his studies to the preparatory section in a way that guarantees him a satisfactory future as a result of his studies in
this school, and in a way that also guarantees him success in the University of London (G.C.E.) exams
(.G. C. E) upon completion of his studies for the fourth preparatory grade.
However, it has happened in the past few years that a large portion of the students who joined
the first intermediate grade of this school had received their lessons in various primary schools
where the duration of primary study is six years instead of seven years, in addition to the difference in
the levels of these schools.
Most of these students were weak in scientific subjects in general and in the English language
in particular to a degree that they were unable to follow the studies in the first intermediate grade in our school in line
with the students who spent seven years in primary study.
As a result of this, these students, (and their number is not small), were in our school
repeating the first year of intermediate study once or twice as a result of their failure. This is knowing
that even this repetition was not fruitful to the required degree due to the general weakness in the foundation when
these students joined the first intermediate grade for the first time.
To address this problem in the most effective way, the administration of this school decided, after deliberation with
the competent authorities, to delete the additional year from the primary study stage and replace it with a
preparatory year in which the student joins after completing the sixth primary grade and before entering the
first intermediate grade in our school.
The administration of this school will try to provide for the students during this preparatory year
all opportunities to strengthen the foundations of their primary studies and complete what they lack of necessary information in various
subjects in general and in foreign languages in particular, so that it is possible for them to follow their lessons in the intermediate and
preparatory classes with the minimum possible difficulties in this school of ours.
In this way, the school administration hopes to address many of the problems and difficulties
of study that the students were encountering during the intermediate and preparatory study stages in our school
as a result of the basic difference in the number of years of their primary studies and the difference in their levels in that
stage of study.

A copy of what is written to the guardians of students who pass from the fifth (5th) directly to the sixth
each year at the end of every year
Dear Guardian ---
In view of ⟦your child⟧ ⟦your son⟧ --- obtaining an average of (so-and-so) in all final
grades for his subjects except for the grades of Religion and Drawing (without failing in any
subject), he is entitled to enroll in the sixth primary grade in the next
1955 - 1956 academic year according to the system established by the administration of this
school two years ago, and that is without attending the fifth (A)
primary grade.
However, to ensure the maintenance of the academic level of the sixth
primary grade, ⟦your child⟧ ⟦your son⟧ must pass ⟦two exams⟧ ⟦three exams⟧ at the end of the current
summer vacation, one in the French language and the second in the English language ⟦and the third in Arithmetic⟧
parallel in their level to the level of students who have completed the fifth
primary grade (A). It is also requested to strengthen them in all other subjects during
the summer vacation so they can keep up with their peers in these subjects
in the next academic year.
Please accept our highest respect

Academic Year 1954 / 1955
Instructions regarding the mid-year examination and first semester grades
Ladies and gentlemen, teachers and lecturers, are requested to note the following and act accordingly.
First - Submit the average grades for the second quarter of the school year (i.e., the average for December and January)
and the average grades for the first half of the current school year during the week starting on the morning of
Sunday, January 23, 1955, provided that this is not delayed beyond Friday, 1/28/55,
so that the administration can record these grades in the school records and grade cards and distribute them to
the students before the mid-year exam.
Second - The mid-year exam begins on Friday, February 11, 1955, and ends at the end of Friday,
2/18/955, as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, followed by a one-day holiday,
which is Sunday, 2/20/955. Accordingly, studies will start again after the holiday on the morning of Monday,
2/21/955. Thursday, 2/10/955, will be a holiday immediately preceding the exam.
Third - Oral exams are held in Arabic, English, and French languages, and Religion for all classes, as
announced in the mid-year exam schedule during the mid-year exam days and the school days that immediately precede
the mid-year exam, provided that each teacher informs the students of this one week before the oral exam.
Teachers who examine students during regular school days are requested to conduct their oral exams
during the designated lesson without affecting the course of daily teaching.
Fourth - The mid-year exam schedule has been posted in the teachers' room, so please review it immediately and contact the assistant
to express any observations made by the teachers in this regard to finalize the schedule and make it definitive before
Tuesday, 1/25/1955.
Fifth - The administration is ready to provide every teacher or lecturer with Reneo paper and Stencils
if they wish to print the questions. They must personally type the questions on the typewriter or write them
by hand on the Stencil paper and supervise their printing and burning of drafts, as the administration wishes
the responsibility for printing the questions to rest solely with the teacher.
Sixth - Please submit the mid-year exam questions to the administration before Friday, 1/28/1955,
in one copy only if the teacher decides to print them via Reneo, and in three copies if they decide otherwise.
The writing of the questions must be very clear, and a separate question paper is to be placed for each subject and each class
individually. Each question paper should be headed according to the arrangement shown below and according to the language
used in the questions.

Frank Iny School and Shamash Secondary School
Registration of students for the academic year 1955 / 1956
The administration of Frank Iny and Shamash schools announces that student registration will take place during the period that
begins on Monday, September 19, 1955, and ends on Friday, the 23rd of the same month. Therefore, all
new and old students must proceed to register during this period, taking into account the following:
First - The school administration cannot guarantee places for students who are late in registering beyond this
deadline, whether they are new or old students.
Second - Every female or male student who is late in registering by the deadline set
above will be deprived of tuition fee exemptions, whether their exemption last year was total or partial.
Third - Upon registration, the student pays half of the prescribed school fees as a first installment, in addition to the fees for
extracurricular activities as usual.
Fourth - Every student who is late in paying the first installment of school fees beyond the specified registration deadline
above (i.e., Friday, September 23, 1955), without compelling reasons that convince the administration,
shall be obligated to pay an additional amount over their prescribed school fees, in the event that
they are accepted into this school after the aforementioned registration deadline.
Fifth - Every female or male student wishing to join the first intermediate class or the fourth preparatory class must
bring with them three copies of their photograph with a fifty-fils revenue stamp along with the non-deprivation
identity card belonging to them or their family, with the full address of the residence and the workplace of their guardian,
and the same applies to every new student wishing to join any other class.
Sixth - A female or male student who wishes to participate in student transport buses must pay, in addition
to their school fees, an amount of four dinars as a first installment if their residence is in the areas
near the school, and five dinars if their residence is in Rashid Street or Ghazi Street
or in Karrada, as was the case last year. This is with the knowledge that the school administration will
not be responsible for making the necessary arrangements for the student's means of transport if they are late in paying the
bus fees after the end of the registration period.
Seventh - If a student is late in registering within the deadline specified by the Ministry of Education, they will not be accepted
in the school after that date.
