With reference to your letter No. T / 1420 / 50 dated 16 / 6 / 1950
Upon inquiry regarding the luggage mentioned in your letter, it appeared to us that the persons who
left their luggage in the synagogue had placed it for safekeeping in the synagogue, and each of them recorded
his name on his bag individually, due to compelling reasons that forced them
to leave it in the synagogue. The total amount was approximately twenty-five bags,
excluding sacks and several bundles. Afterwards, Isaac Rahmin Halawi came,
along with his companions Baruch Haqeel Kurdi and Medhi Ezra Khadouri, to the former deputy
head of the community, Khadouri Moshi, asking him to hand over the mentioned luggage, and he indeed handed it
over to them. In turn, they took it to the house of Yaqub Munshi the Tailor and placed it in his room
in the house of the aforementioned, and the key to the room was given to Isaac Rahmin Halawi and his companions.
However, after that, we learned that groups related to the mentioned luggage
came to Amarah from Baghdad requesting the return of their relatives' luggage and approached

in helping the weak due to the lack of support from the merchants and the wealthy of Amarah. And when
the community collects an amount to satisfy the hunger of the poor or for a necessary need of the community, you find
there is hardship in collecting a few dirhams from each merchant, and this is not enough to cover the needs of
a single poor family. Knowing that each one of them is capable of providing
great assistance sufficient to cover many needs.
The goal and mission of the community is for the merchants to help their
poor relatives at least. As there are poor and destitute families who do not have their daily sustenance
in Amarah, Qal'at Saleh, Ali Al-Gharbi, and Shaybah Al-Aziz, and they must be helped in any way
possible. In any case, their merchant relatives are more deserving of helping them than others.
Accordingly, we present to your position a list of the names of the town's current merchants and its wealthy people who
do not know the meaning of assistance, despite being able to help their relatives in a good way
that does not leave the poor or the community in distress. Based on the above, we hope you take the necessary measures and what
you deem appropriate regarding this, whether by corresponding with them directly from your side in a firm tone
or by another method requesting them to pay the necessary expenses of their poor relatives along with
the airfare for them before their travel, and not to leave their poor relatives in need and great injustice

we inform you that we are exerting all our efforts to complete all matters related
to the community - in the best possible way and according to our ability - especially the issue
about which you visited regarding the people of the districts and villages belonging to ⟦...⟧ His
Eminence Rabbi Sassoon, the head of the community, has consulted the official authorities
in Mosul and the districts, and finally the case reached the Assistant of the Special Branch
in Mosul, so they wrote to the General Directorate in Baghdad in their letter No. 2926

due to their inability to return to their remote villages after they severed all
their relations with them and took refuge in Mosul. Until yesterday, no answer had been received,

Baghdad are few compared to the many present in Mosul and those arriving there from abroad daily.
My dear Professor, we heard about the rumors circulating among you in Baghdad regarding the alleged behavior
of the Jews of Mosul; these rumors have no basis at all, as we and all members of
the community are well and enjoying full health.

The people of Susnawa village near Aqrah district
complain of persecution, and a person named Bahzu was killed among them while returning from Aqrah to his village, Susnawa. Seven families from among them have displaced to Baghdad and were housed in the Munshi Saleh school.

The people of Amarah, Nasiriyah, Shamiya, Halabja, Shahraban, Khanaqin, Baqubah, Sulaymaniyah, Diwaniyah, and Basra complain about the delay in deciding on citizenship renunciation cases, especially since the majority of them submitted their forms more than two months ago and have sold their property and furniture.
