To inquire from the Chairman of the Committee
whether the mission of this committee has ended
which worked in the community shelters
His Excellency, the respected Head of the Jewish Community
I, the undersigned, Saleh Ephraim Shamoun, a worker who had worked in the community shelters
to perform all electrical works, repairs, fans, installations, and others
required by the shelters, for free and without receiving any wages for a period of six months
The Jewish Community Shelters Committee promised me at the time that I would be deported
with my family for free and exempted from travel fees ⟦...⟧ with this petition of mine
Confirmation from the aforementioned committee for myself as mentioned above, as well as confirmation from the director of the Menashi
Saleh shelter and a member of the Jewish Community Shelters Committee. I have consulted the Travel Committee responsible
for travel fees, and after confirming my weak financial situation, they charged me with paying half of the travel fees
And since I
First - I do not have the ability to pay half of the fees
Second - The previous Shelters Committee had promised me to take care of my deportation for free, as is clear
from the certificates attached herewith. I have consulted the current Shelters Committee, and they rejected my request
on the grounds that the previous committee that promised me free deportation has now changed.
And since the matter is presented to Your Excellency, as it is not permissible for this committee in any way
to reject the promises given by the committee that preceded it, as that would mean
chaos and disorder, and it means not trusting its decisions anymore
by the members of the community, and that is also not consistent with justice and humanity in
any way, as I have performed many labors and services for which I did not ask for compensation except for this
simple request that was agreed upon.
Therefore, I hope Your Excellency will issue orders to the Shelters Committee to
bear the half of the fees imposed on me by the Deportation Committee or to mediate with the
Deportation Committee to exempt me from all fees; otherwise, I will be forced to take
legal steps. Thanking you in advance, and praying for you
Saleh Ephraim Shamoun

Presented to your Excellency
I, Hadhuri Hasyoun, have been ill for five months and am of poor status
During my illness, I spent everything I had and I have nothing left even to feed myself. Since
I was desirous of renouncing my Iraqi citizenship, I sought the mediation of a group of people
They collected a sum of money, which is the price for the renunciation, but the amount collected is not enough
to renounce for myself and my family; rather, I lack 1.500 Dinars. Therefore, I have come knocking at your door
to provide this amount ⟦as assistance⟧.
Please, your Excellency, accept my utmost thanks

His Excellency the President of the Jewish Community, Respected
Baghdad
After greetings
Presented to your Excellency
During the past week, we visited the Sifrei Torah Registration Committee to obtain a permit to take them
with us, and we were surprised that the fee has become twenty dinars, which is four times the previous fee of five
dinars.
-1- You know, sir, that some of the people who own Sifrei Torah and who are alive, or their relatives,
can pay this amount, but the overwhelming majority cannot pay this, nor even the five dinars, i.e.,
the previous fee.
-2- We encourage some of our brothers to donate by paying the fee for one scroll to carry with them, and also to encourage
donations and the collection of any amount that can be collected to send Sifrei Torah even if we did not benefit that person, and that is
in fulfillment of the sacred duty. This is in addition to the suffering and hardship borne by the traveler with his family, and that
if the mentioned committee persists in the mentioned fee, it will prevent most of those who own or those who volunteer
to carry the Sifrei Torah from doing so. Thus, the community will incur huge sums to transport all the Sifrei Torah left by their owners, and it will become
the community's duty to transport them. In this way, the intended benefit from increasing the fee will be lost.
We, the undersigned, have come with this letter of ours, hoping your Excellency will pay attention to this important point and do everything possible to facilitate
transportation matters. As you know, the Sifrei Torah are (Torahs) and it is not possible for their owner or anyone else to benefit from them or sell them.
Please accept our highest respect.

His Excellency the Director General of Propaganda, Respected
Extremely Urgent
After greetings
Both Al-Yaqza newspaper in its issue No. 1070 published on Monday evening, 12 / 3 / 1951
and Sawt al-Uruba in its issue No. 187 published on the evening of the same day, published a local news item stating that the money changer named
Ishaq Shatoub had smuggled his money. The two aforementioned newspapers commented that the aforementioned person is the brother of the head of this community, Mr.
Heskel Daoud Shatoub. Sawt al-Uruba added in its commentary untrue matters that would create provocation. And since
the head of the community has no connection with the person named Ishaq Shatoub, whatever the type of relationship, nor is there any kinship relationship between the two families
at all, and since publishing untrue matters is an explicit violation of the Press and Publication Law, I, in accordance with the articles of this law, have come to
Your Excellency, requesting:-
1- Ordering the two aforementioned newspapers to deny this news in the first issue they publish.
2- Emphasizing to them not to publish such matters before investigating the extent of their truthfulness.
Please accept my highest respect;

No. T / 51/1280
Date 11 / 2 / 1951
Presented to your Excellency
We, the undersigned, were formerly employees ⟦in government departments⟧ and were dismissed from our positions more than
two years ago. When the Law for the Deprivation of Citizenship was enacted, we submitted applications to renounce our citizenship at
various times. Since we are of poor means and have spent everything we own, and have nothing left to sustain us,
we come with this petition of ours, pleading for mediation with the competent authorities to expedite our travel, just like
the other employees whose travel was expedited. There is no doubt that the reasons for expediting the travel of
other employees was out of mercy for them so they would not remain unemployed without work and without another source of income
to live on. This reason applies to us as well, and we are more deserving of assistance since we were dismissed from
our jobs through no choice of our own and have remained throughout these years dragging the tails of poverty and deprivation. We have consumed
all the money and belongings we owned and have become in a state of pitiable need and destitution, especially since most of us
are heads of large families and advanced in age, and we have no means of livelihood to sustain us. If your Excellency
examines our matter, you would find that we are more deserving of assistance than those other employees who
renounced and are still renouncing their citizenships for the purpose of expediting their travel, as others did not sacrifice as much as
we have sacrificed, since we have remained unemployed for more than two years and everything we owned of money and belongings has been exhausted, and we possess
nothing but the mercy of God and the generosity, assistance, and kindness of your Excellency. We do not doubt that your kindness and effort will be
the best help for us for what remains. With our highest respect.

To the honor and excellence of the honorable master, our master and the crown of our heads, the head of the communities
of Israel in Babylon and its surroundings, may God protect him.
O my honorable master, I kiss your head, may the Holy One, Blessed be He, grant you a good life and protect you,
a built fence for Israel, our master, in the days when he sustained the life of Israel for 40 years, each man
under his vine and each man under his fig tree, and these are your days for Israel, they shall journey to the house built by
the one who placed his name in your midst.
1 My master, I am the sender of my plea to your Excellency (Ezra Isaac Levy), a deaf man, I cannot rise
from my bed because I am elderly. I had a son I relied on God and on him, who lives in Syria, Abu Kamal.
Since the movement of travel to Palestine began, he traveled and communication between us has been cut off for more than a year today.
I was the (Cantor and Head of the Community) of the Jewish quarter.
2 When the registration for denaturalization began in Ana, I renounced my Iraqi citizenship and sold my residence and all the household movables it contained,
based on my family's travel to Baghdad to wait for departure.
3 When we appeared before the Assistant Chief of Police of Ana to request a travel permit, he claimed that an official letter had come to them from your Excellency and from the Director
of Baghdad Police stating that it is forbidden for a family from Ana to travel except with special permission from your Excellency granting leave to travel.
4 My master, there are no Jewish residents left in the Jewish quarter except for me and my family, secluded night and day, having nothing but fear for
ourselves, and honor is precious ⟦H⟧ and ⟦H⟧, and the family consists of eight persons: three men and five of them are girls,
and we have no patience left for the situation.
5 I have come pleading to your Excellency to bestow your high compassion upon us and my family by sending a permit allowing us to travel to
Baghdad so that we may live with our brothers and not remain alone in a town among those other than our community.
6 Leaving this to your magnanimity and zeal, that you may keep us before your eyes; were it not for the ⟦house's master⟧ to your Excellency, I would forget that I am lengthening
the explanation, with utmost reverence and respect to your Excellency, and may God protect you, my master.

To the honorable master, head of the Jewish communities and its branches, may God protect them
Our master, we broadcast our complaint to your Excellency, seeking from your honor generosity, aid, and justice according to
the law of our Torah. We have renounced our citizenship and have become [stateless] in Baghdad
and we are waiting for our salvation and the request for our presence in Baghdad as per your order
and we suffer from a bitter life and greater torment as we do not have the ability to stay in Baghdad for a long time
And today something appeared to us poor people, that the capable ones among us, the people of means, want to move our families
their families to Baghdad and leave us like sheep without a shepherd among wolves
Specifically, Monsieur Moallem Habib Murad, who is the guardian (Shomer), the proxy, the delegate, the head of religion, and the head
and all the property of the religious sect is in his hand; he wants to travel to Baghdad with all his permissions from us, this person
and the families that travel with him, what will be the fate of those of us who remain?
We beg of your Excellency to do us justice, either by requesting us all to Baghdad or by preventing anyone from traveling
from here unless an order is issued by your Excellency for everyone, as there are among us a group who cannot afford
the rent in Baghdad, so how can they live in Baghdad for a long time?
Our master, we kiss your hands, grant us justice and do not let us be tossed by the winds, and it is not hidden from you what the state of everyone is now
We are in your hands, do with us as you wish, and the matter is for your Excellency, my master
