From Erbil 26 / 11 / 950
The Honorable Mr. Salim, Secretary of the Presidency of the Israelite Community, Respected
Baghdad
After greetings and respect
Several times we have written to the Presidency of the Community about the conditions of the mountain Jews who gathered in Erbil
and to the Committee for Denaturalization and Deportation, and until now we have not received any satisfactory answer.
We remind you of your letter which we received on 9 - 7 - 950, in which
you explained and made the final decision not to process their denaturalization in Baghdad and you ordered us
to carry out their denaturalization process in Erbil, and we obeyed your order and exerted various efforts
until the Creator granted us success and we carried out your order to the letter.
And from the date 4 - 10 - 950, their forms were submitted to your side according to the letter of the Erbil Police
Directorate attached to this message, and we are bewildered how their case has been neglected until
this date, while attention was given to the Jews of the districts who are living in their homes and most of them
are living in luxury, leaving these poor people hungry and naked and standing
at the doors of charity; is this fair!
O Honorable Sheikh, keeping these poor people in Erbil for longer than this period is not
possible, and for them to return to their previous places is an impossible matter after they lost everything
they owned of worldly goods. This problem must be solved as quickly as possible, and the
only solution is to transfer them to Baghdad and deport them gradually. This is our hope from your high determination,
and we beg the Great President to look upon this case with an eye of
kindness and compassion and to conclude it before their condition worsens more than this.
Please accept my highest respect.
Sincerely,
Head of the Jewish Community of Erbil

To the honorable and distinguished Mr. Saleh Yusuf Nouri,
President of the Jewish Community in Erbil
Greetings and respect,
I was honored to receive your letter dated 11/22/50.
I have personally explained the matter to your representative in Baghdad, Mr. Rubin Saleh, and I hope
it is known to you that the Committee for Denaturalization and Deportation has not neglected
the matter of the refugees in your area as stated in your letter; rather, the issue is simply that
the official authorities did not agree to fulfill our request to expedite their travel.
In any case, new efforts may be made in the future in this regard.
Furthermore, Al-Behbehani's representative met with our President
and explained the matter to him, and he may have informed you of the result of his meeting. In any case,
it is inevitable that you exert new efforts to continue urging
aid for these refugees along with ⟦others⟧ in Erbil, and God does not waste
the reward of those who do good.
May God reward you ⟦very⟧ well, and please accept our highest respect.

Subject
We, the undersigned, a group of dismissed and resigned employees and workers of the glorious government
whose citizenship has been revoked. We wish ⟦to⟧ explain the state of our situation and the misery and destruction we have reached, so that
we may feel your sympathy toward us.
Our sources of livelihood have been cut off as a result of our dismissal from our jobs; some of us were dismissed since 1948, some
were dismissed due to being sentenced to prison, and some were dismissed or resigned due to the revocation of citizenship. We are all heads of
families responsible for their support, and it is no secret to Your Excellencies that the circumstances we are passing through are harsh and that the pains of unemployment
that we suffer are exhausting. Each individual among us can no longer provide his daily sustenance except after selling what he owns
of clothing or bedding, until we have reached a state of pitiable misery and hardship.
The means of living have been cut off for us, and now the winter season has raided us while our children are hungry and naked.
Nothing remains before us but perish or extending hands to beg, so we have resorted to knocking on your door, demanding the following:
First - Interceding with the competent authorities to give us priority and deport us urgently, along with those we are responsible
for supporting, similar to current employees and retired employees whose names have previously been recorded
to decide on the matter of their deportation.
Second - Allocating a shelter from the community's properties to house us and our families until the matter of our deportation is decided,
as we have become completely unable to pay the rent for our houses.
Third - We also hope for the allocation of monetary and in-kind aid for our sustenance.
Your Excellencies,
As we submit this cry of ours, seeking your noble emotions to save us and save our children from hunger
and starvation, relying on what we know of your love for goodness and desire to provide aid and assistance to the weak.
We are hopeful that you will consider our demands with the attention they deserve, as quickly as possible. May God grant you success
in the good you do. Please accept our highest thanks and respect.

An appeal to our brothers, the honorable members of the community
We have noticed that a large number of community members have made it a habit to go to
the civil airport and gather there, men, women, and children, to watch the travelers
and bid them farewell. Since this gathering is harmful to the public interest and disruptive to travel procedures,
we urge all honorable members of the community, even the relatives of travelers, to refrain from
going to the civil airport to maintain order and out of concern for the public interest.

To the Honorable Chairman of the Citizenship Revocation and Deportation Committee
Subject of presentation to your Excellency
We, the employees, workers, and resigned persons whose citizenships have been revoked and who are signed
below, have previously been dismissed from our jobs for periods ranging between the year 48 / 50, and we
and our families have been exposed to hunger, deprivation, and suffering to a great extent as a result of remaining unemployed without work,
especially in such harsh circumstances.
We have now become in a deplorable state and are about to be forced to beg
and extend our hands seeking aid.
It has come to our attention that the administration of Muthir Tuwayq has issued a statement regarding assisting
employees by deciding on the matter of their deportation. Since we, the dismissed employees and workers,
are more deserving of such assistance because we are still exposed to hunger, and this painful situation may extend
for many years, we have come to you with this petition, hoping to be provided with such assistance and to hasten
our deportation and save us from the pain, hunger, and unemployment from which we and our families suffer the most severe torment.
Therefore, we hope that you will look upon us with kindness and mercy and hasten our deportation because we
are more deserving of this assistance than the current employees.
