Desiring to organize the work of renouncing citizenship and to preserve the regular flow of the Presidency of the Community's work,
it has been decided to completely separate these two administrations, as a special headquarters has been allocated for inquiries to facilitate the affairs of
the Citizenship Renunciation and Deportation Committee, located in the building opposite the Presidency of the Community, known
as (Al-Ahliya).
Therefore, everyone is requested not to visit the office of the Presidency of the Community at all regarding matters of
renouncing citizenship, and to restrict every inquiry or question related to renouncing citizenship to the Al-Ahliya building,

To our brothers, the honorable members of the community
It is very important for us to draw the attention of the honorable public to the following:-
First - A large number of our brothers, men, women, and children, have become accustomed to gathering in front of the school
Masouda Shemtob in large groups. In recent days, we have begun to notice that some families have started
going to the civil airport to watch the travelers.
Such gathering has become very harmful to the public interest because, firstly, it disturbs order
and tranquility, and secondly, it has a bad effect on other matters, the consequences of which are feared.
Therefore, we ask the members of our community to avoid gathering at the gate of the Masouda Shemtob Synagogue and especially to refrain
from visiting the airport in the interest of the public good.
Second - You are aware that a large number of our brothers, residents of the North, have arrived in Baghdad
and have stayed at the Menashi Saleh School, and they are in dire need of the assistance of the people of zeal and generosity among their brothers,
the Jews of Baghdad. A special committee has been formed for the purpose of providing for them and caring for them, so we ask the people of chivalry
and generosity to present their donations to the special official from the Ezouri Dalim Association located at the Menashi
Saleh School. It is preferable that donations be in the form of cash or items that can be utilized, while
refraining from providing perishable foods.

My lord and master, His Excellency Ezekiel Shemesh, the respected
After kissing your noble hands, I pray to God to clothe you in the garment of health, wellness, and happiness, and that
He protects you from the calamities of time and makes you a treasure for us, and may God prolong your life, my lord.
We have come here to Basra and saw our daughter there, but she is being sued for a sum and is not
able to go down to Baghdad, and the reason for her release is that her husband, Khalaf ibn Azouri, is suing her.
The association in Basra has divorced her from him through the government, and the head of the community association
in Basra told us that your case is taking place in Baghdad and you must go down to Baghdad and inform
the head of the community, and he will find a solution for the situation of your aforementioned daughter:
So, my lord, we have become anxious about our daughter and our condition is like that of the oppressed, and we have no one
but God and you. My lord, this is a calamity, for you are a sword that is not questioned, and this daughter of ours is
alone, and her brothers are children crying night and day, and far be it from your honor
and conscience to accept that our daughter remains a prey to these malicious matters. We beg for your paternal
sympathy and your pure conscience to make a formal statement and provide facilities no matter the cost.
We are honorable people, and her father is Azouri Ibrahim Shati, the nephew of Isaac Shati.
We have no supporter, helper, or means except God and Your Excellency, and God does not waste
the reward of those who do good.
Your servant,

Qal'at Saleh, Sunday 2 / 7 / 1950
To the Honorable President of the Jewish Community, respected
Greetings and respect
Sir
With this letter of mine, I have come to you complaining about the state of the miserable Jews of the Qal'at Saleh district
As it has been more than three months since they renounced their citizenships
And completed their transactions related to the renunciation and remained waiting for the deportation order
Since then, they have left all their businesses and shops and no work remains for them
To earn a living from, and they sold all their household furniture and began to subsist on
The capital; they have no dirhams or money left now and they remain at the mercy of God
Only, and among these persons who renounced their citizenships there are
Approximately ⟦fifteen⟧ persons who do not even have the travel fare to Baghdad
If their deportation comes, and they do not have expenses or the travel fare
By plane. Therefore, I have come to inform your presence that there is in our city
Torahs, and it is not (Torahs) and registered in the Tabu in the name of the person
Yusuf Hawki, and I told him to sell these Torahs to help
The needy, but he told me I am not able to sell them unless a letter
Comes from the President of the Jewish Community in Baghdad ordering me to sell
And its value with the furniture reaches approximately (400 Dinars). Please, from your presence,
Inform us with an urgent letter regarding its sale to help the needy.
Sir, we also inform you that there is a second Torah other than the one I mentioned
Which is left for the endowment, and before the new Torah was built
It was used and now it is abandoned and can be substituted
For the new Torah as it was before. Also, we inform your presence
That the person named Yaqub Abboudi has an amount of one hundred dirhams
Mar (Kredel) from approximately fifteen years ago and there is no
Person in the Qal'at who holds him accountable or reminds him about the tenant he has

From the Presidency of the Jewish Community in Baghdad
To all Jewish community groups in the provinces
We wish to draw your attention to the following two points, requesting that they be observed with full precision: -
First - Please refrain completely from recommending any members of the community who have renounced
their citizenship to travel to Baghdad for the purpose of their deportation unless you receive the approval of the Community Presidency in Baghdad for their deportation
or a telegram from us, even if it appears to you that their deportation processing has reached its final stages, as many
community members arrive with travel luggage from their towns to Baghdad without their processing being completed and without
the community in Baghdad having the necessary means to house them until the time for their deportation arrives.
Second - We hope it is known to you that the person whose citizenship has been revoked and who is prepared
to travel must bring with him the air transport expenses upon his arrival in Baghdad; otherwise, he will remain in
Baghdad without shelter until he can manage the transport expenses.
We ask everyone concerned to note what is stated above, and our hope is that everyone will cooperate with us
to be able to conduct deportation matters regularly and to avoid everything that would create troubles and obstacles, and from
God comes success.

And I personally was not able to speak to him about that, and there is also an amount
of trust (piastres) from several years ago with the person Yusuf
Hezekiah Rama; these amounts, if not provided for assistance now, then
we will not be able to benefit on this difficult day; so on what day will they be useful?
Therefore, I came to inform your presence so that you may notify these people
of that with an extremely urgent letter because the condition of the Jews is deplorable,
and likewise, there is no one among them who speaks in their name or expresses
for them an action for assistance, and also there is no one from the elders of
the city today interested in their affairs or helping them, and if the elders of the city
do not help the weak of their city, then who will help them? Therefore, I beg
of your kindness to hasten your opinion on the matter as they have nothing left
to rely ⟦no⟧ upon except God and you, and therefore I hope for speed
in the matter and to send the answer quickly as soon as possible, and also
that you show mercy regarding the matter of their deportation and care for them more than others.
This is all, and many thanks to you, praying to the Creator to protect you ⟦and crown⟧
your deeds with goodness, peace, and may you remain safe.

A copy of your letter sent to us
To Saleh Yusuf Nouri, Erbil
After greetings and respect
We have been approached by both Hannu Khoshon from the residents of Diyana belonging to Rawanduz district
and Kahlon Musa from the residents of Shirwan belonging to Rawanduz district, complaining of
the occurring disturbances and desiring to leave their cities to renounce their citizenship, and since
it is absolutely impossible for us at the present time to renounce their citizenship from
Baghdad, as the currently followed regulations require that every
person renounces his citizenship from his own region, I have seen fit to request
consideration of their matter, given what is known to us of your kindness and concern.
Therefore, I hope to study their case and try to pave the way
to renounce their citizenship in Rawanduz or Erbil in a manner that ensures
the guarantee of their freedom and the preservation of their comfort, and I am awaiting your reply.

After greetings
With reference to your letter No. 10 dated 2 / 7 / 1950
We have received (38) thirty-eight Sifrei Torah scrolls sent
accompanied by Ibrahim Pinhas, and we have deposited them in the Masouda Shemtob Synagogue in preparation
for sending them with the departing Jews whose citizenship has been revoked; however, we ask you
to note that the transport fee for each Sefer is five dinars, and the transport fee for the scrolls
is 250 fils per kilo. Therefore, please collect the transport fees for the Sifrarim from
their owners as quickly as possible so that we can take the necessary action regarding them. We also request
sending the transport fees for the scrolls after collecting them from the members of the community.
Awaiting your reply, please accept our respect!
