Subject - Slaughtering of sheep for Kosher
To His Eminence Rabbi Rawer, the respected Rabbi Yaqub
88
After greetings and respect
The bearer of this letter is Karmi Shaul Agaba, whom you requested I send to you in order to learn the slaughtering
of sheep for Kosher. When I was in Baghdad, I informed Your Eminence that his mother had passed away and his arrival was postponed.
Now he is ready to travel for the purpose of training him on the slaughtering of sheep for Kosher so that the community in Basra
may be at ease to eat Kosher meat. I hope his mission is completed, and we thank you. Please accept our highest respects.

We, the undersigned, present to you our tragedy of severe distress regarding the absence of
an official teacher to perform the task of slaughtering sheep throughout the past period of approximately nine months.
It has come to our attention that the teacher of Diwaniyah accompanies the army to Basra once a week for one day
only to perform this task. Given that the teacher Gurji Shaul Aghababa, who has trained in
slaughtering sheep with the teacher of Diwaniyah for a period of approximately five months, has gained sufficient experience
to slaughter sheep according to the Mosaic Law.
Therefore, we request permission for him to perform this task, to be the one responsible and bear our sins
for whatever may result, and the matter is yours in advance.
