Student Union Speech
Student Day, the Thirteenth Anniversary, Baghdad 11-22-1972
Mr. Respectable Director
My respectable male teachers and my respectable female teachers
Our country celebrates today the eleventh anniversary of Student Day, which is a day
dear to us that our General Union has adopted to take pride in us, just as some
countries have adopted similar holidays for workers, farmers, and mothers.
And this holiday of ours is among the most important holidays, the highest in value, and the greatest
in significance, because the future and dignity of the nation depend on the students.
And those who think that the future of their country depends on its
mineral, industrial, and agricultural wealth without preparing
the scientists, technicians, and experts who will manage those facilities
with efficiency, merit, and worthiness in the coming days, may be mistaken.
Indeed, the nation whose children head to their kindergartens and schools
and its youth to their universities, institutes, laboratories, and libraries
guarantees a prosperous future, a happy life, and abundant dignity
because those are the ones who will achieve glory, pride, and sovereignty for it.
As for the nations whose children drift to alleys and pathways
and its youth to the streets and squares, it is a nation doomed to extinction
and loss.
My fellow students:
Our state, which has allocated a holiday for us through the efforts of the Union

Our students, out of pride in our entity, have made it obligatory for us to thank, respect,
and appreciate her, and we must fulfill her hope in us through diligence, hard work,
sanctifying the spirit of cooperation among us, respecting our professors, and obeying
their orders. By doing so, we fulfill their hope, the hope of the state, and the Student Union
in us to serve our country with true service, and thereby we build for our country
its happy past and contribute to the service of humanity and peace.

For retention
10/22/1972
With the dawn of the new academic year, which expects from us all exertion, giving, and sacrifice, and for the sake of unifying
sound and close relations with our student sons with whom we share the loftiest spiritual relations so that everyone contributes to building
the glory of this nation, raising its lofty edifice, and performing their tasks in an ideal manner, and to cast away past negatives and overcome them
with a high positive spirit based on friendliness, harmony, and brotherhood without differentiation or discrimination.
Please circulate the kind and bold initiative of the National Union of Iraqi Students, dated 9/25/1972, attached
herewith, to all their schools to act accordingly to coordinate and strengthen the relationship between our noble students, their teachers, and the administrations
of their schools to create an atmosphere of trust and sense of responsibility through which the educational duty can be performed with all diligence and sincerity
and so that everyone proves, through their cooperation and solidarity, their love for work and their drive for the good of this country, and to miss the opportunity for
the enemies of our people and nation, confirming our determination to achieve victory through our good effort and fruitful giving in this year, the year of Nationalization.
This great victory achieved by the glorious July 17 Revolution.
As we call upon all of you to be one hand, we are fully confident that you will exert the effort and perform
the duty, and you will strive to consolidate the strongest and noblest relations with the students and their representative, the National Union of Iraqi Students, wishing our students,
you, and all sincere workers every progress and success in your educational missions and national endeavors, and may God grant you success.

The Executive Office of the National Union of Iraqi Students extends its warmest greetings to you on the occasion of the approaching start of the year
the new academic year. We wish you and all officials in the education apparatus, school administrations, teachers, and instructors,
on behalf of our fellow students, a happy academic year dominated by atmospheres of sovereignty and loyalty. We hope for continued cooperation with the Union in
order to advance the scientific and educational level of the students and our desire to overcome some wrong practices during the academic
year. We hope to circulate this letter of ours to all school administrations with our great thanks and respect.
1) It is not permissible to consult with the school principal regarding daily student issues except by the head of the
National Union committee in the school.
2) The Union is represented in the school by the members of the Union Committee only. As for the rest of the students, they are all considered members of
the Union. Thus, we deny the designation of Unionist (or non-Unionist) inside the school.
3) Members of the Union Committees in schools are subject to all conditions of commitment and discipline inside the school, and it is not permissible in
this regard to distinguish them from the rest of the students in any case whatsoever; rather, they must be role models for the rest of the students
in commitment to attendance, behavior, order, and scientific excellence.
4) No male or female student, regardless of their status in the Union, is allowed to leave the school during official working hours except under
a letter signed by the Secretariat Office of High Schools in the Governorate. Likewise, no outside student is allowed to enter the school
except under such a letter. Furthermore, students are absolutely not allowed to enter girls' schools.
5) It is not permissible to consider Union Committee rooms a haven for those evading attendance during classes, and smoking is prohibited in these rooms.
6) All school administrations are requested to provide the Executive Office of the National Union of Iraqi Students with immediate reports about
violations and transgressions of the Union Committees through the Director of Education in the governorate so that we can take
the necessary measures in a timely manner.
Hoping that this method will be an alternative to the method of defamation practiced by some administrations without realizing the results of this
method.
7) We request all school administrations to emphasize the necessity of adhering to educational methods in dealing with students
and to stop using methods of beating and other coercive methods in this field. We have a solid hope that
during the current year, the harmony we aspire to between the administrations and the Union committees will be achieved to provide a push
for educational and teaching institutions toward a better reality. With thanks.
