Correspondence Regarding Students from the Baghdadi Jewish Schools

Description

The archival material contains correspondence between different Baghdadi Jewish schools regarding: school matters, student transfers, acceptance forms, school reports, acceptance letters, graduation certificates, medical notification excuses, name changes, student punishment and parent’s requests for their children to repeat classes, pledge for misbehaving, and recommendation letters; photographs of students are included. It includes letters from schools to the Directorate of Education for certificate for ratification, to the Directorate of Missions and Equalization of Diplomas, and to the General Director of Recruitment. Also included is a letter from the Head of the Jewish Lay Council to the Directorate of Education regarding the reorganization of the Jewish schools to conform to the Ministry of Education’s new rules that concerns the students whom have been discharged from Jewish school because their Iraq citizenship has been revoked.

Massuda Salman Primary School by the Jewish Schools
Committee in Baghdad, in accordance with the Committee's
decision No.M/8/525, dated 8/11/1949.
Mr. A. Bistré was later transferred to Frank Iny
Primary School to fill a vacancy as a teacher of French,
which post he held till the end of the Scholastic year
1950-1951.

Pursuant to the decision of the Ministry of Education to prevent Jewish students whose Iraqi citizenship has been revoked from attending
schools belonging to the Presidency of this community, No. 11869 dated 15 / 4 / 1951, we have merged
the Laura Kadoorie Primary School for Girls and the Albert David Sassoon Primary School for Boys with the Frank Iny Primary School, and also merged the Laura
Kadoorie Intermediate School for Girls and the Albert David Sassoon Intermediate School for Boys, provided that the attendance of all these male and female students shall be in the Frank
Iny School. We have assigned at the same time Mr. Salmon Dayan (Principal of the Albert David Sassoon School) to manage this school,
provided that Mrs. Sepphora Dayan (Principal of the Laura Kadoorie School) assists him in the administration.
Therefore, we kindly request you to inform the specialized departments in the esteemed Ministry of Education regarding these arrangements to obtain
their approval.

This is to certify that Miss Leonie Ibrahim Mashal whose photograph
is affixed above, has done seven years of Primary Schooling and three
years of Intermediate School work in the old established Alliance School
in Baghdad, which was united with Frank Iny School in October 1951.
In addition to Arabic and English the above candidate did French up
to Brevet Elementaire standard.
In June 1939, Miss Mashal sat and passed the Iraq State Baccalaureate
Examination for Primary Education which, in standard, is equivalent roughly
to the common Entrance examination of the English School or to grade 7 of
the American School.
In June 1942, the above candidate sat and passed the Iraq State Bac-
calaureate Examination for Intermediate Education which, in standard, is
equivalent roughly to grade 10 of the American High School.
In these two examinations Miss Leonie Mashal obtained the following
marks in the different subjects:
