To the Honorable Head of the Israelite Community:
After greetings and reverence,
A month and a half ago or more, I came to you and pleaded
⟦to express⟧ my distress with my husband, and for that reason I came to you
so that ⟦you may help me⟧ because my situation has become ⟦bad⟧
And I asked you to move my house to ⟦my aid⟧ passing by because I
⟦do not possess⟧ any recourse ⟦to God⟧ to rely on except that after
my husband's disagreement with me, I have become in severe financial distress
Debt has accumulated upon me.
I have placed my story regarding the matter before ⟦the Rabbi⟧
⟦that every⟧ day passes for them and ⟦they do not help me⟧ with anything
And I am deprived of family; I have no mother, no father, and no brother
⟦so that⟧ I could ask them for ⟦help⟧ to support my children

To Whom It May Concern
We, the undersigned, testify that the bearer of this paper, Menachem Yaqub, from the residents of Al-Ziyadi,
is the head of a family consisting of ten people and is extremely poor. Furthermore,
he is in debt to several people in Al-Ziyadi and has sold all of his household furniture,
which was not enough to pay off the debts he owes to many people outside of his community.
In view of his proven poverty, the creditors have recently been threatening to kill him if he does not pay their demands, such that
his path is blocked. Therefore, we ask the respected members of the community to extend a hand
of help and assistance to him, and God does not waste the reward of those who do good.

His Excellency, the Honorable President of the Jewish Community
Presented to your Excellency
I am Khoushi Azar, from the people of Hit and a student in the fourth grade at the Official Industrial School in Baghdad in the boarding
department. It happened one night that a search was conducted on the lockers belonging to the students. In my locker, the inspector found
the notebook in which I used to write my notes. What was in the notebook, I had written one day, was a phrase regarding my travel
to Israel illegally and so on. Thus, the notebook reached the administration, they browsed it, and directed written questions
to me to answer. Indeed, I answered frankly, and what I said was that the most important reasons that prompted me to flee
were persecution and the desecration of dignity, as well as the government's decision that made those who leave Iraq lose their citizenship
and so on. This happened last Wednesday, and accordingly, I took my clothes in the afternoon and took a leave of absence on the pretext that
my father is sick in Hit. I am now confused, knowing that I am registered to renounce my citizenship, but my name has not appeared yet.
Should I return to school and attend as usual? Or should I leave school permanently? For I am a young man and it is a shame to wastefully become
a victim. I am afraid of the administration informing the investigations and conducting an investigation with me and bringing those I wrote about
in the notebook who tried to smuggle me. I beg of your Excellency to look upon me with an eye of compassion, for I am a young man alone,
my family is in Hit and I am in Baghdad. I beg you to hasten the appearance of my name to renounce my citizenship or find a solution to this
problem. To your Excellency, many thanks.

His Excellency the President of the Jewish Community in Baghdad, the Respected
We were all rejoiced by the issuance of the High Royal Decree pardoning those convicted
under Article <del>78</del> 78 of the Code regarding the remainder of their sentence.
We, whose names are listed below, were among those who rejoiced at this High
Royal Decree because we are among those convicted under it, but our joy was not complete
due to the absence of our names among those pardoned.
And since the High Royal Decree included: "pardoning those who were unable to
provide guarantees to maintain good conduct and behavior, and that their special circumstances
require leniency and mercy for them." We request your Excellency to mediate with the
High Authorities to include us in this High Royal leniency and mercy,
because we are also among those who were unable to provide guarantees - and some of us
have spent about twenty months in prison and detention - and our special
circumstances require leniency and mercy.
This is with the knowledge that we are not pickpockets or repeat offenders.
And to you our thanks, our Master.

His Excellency the Acting President of the Jewish Community, the Respected,
After greetings and respect,
It is no secret to you that Kut is now a center for political prisoners, most of whom
are Jews, and as a result, many families have been frequenting the district center for visits
since long ago, and since there is no place in Kut for them to stay, they are forced to stay in the only room there
which we have rented, and therefore there is no doubt that this requires mattresses, blankets, and food
and all the housing supplies needed by the members of the community there, and it also requires cleaning
toilets and wiping, etc...
And since the community there does not have a physical council and we do not have any income for that,
I have come with this petition of mine, appealing for your assistance by extending a hand of help and aid
to me - not in my personal capacity - but in my capacity as the Torah Shamash, so that I may be able to perform what
duty requires towards these families, and to you much thanks and respect.

After greetings and respect
I wish to present to your Excellency that I am from the people of Nasiriyah and I have two sons
and four grown daughters, one of whom is named Nazima Salloum Hanouna, with whom a
Muslim man came to an agreement ⟦and took her⟧ ⟦by force⟧ in her home and her poverty so that she would change her religion and become a Muslim, but we brought her
by force to Baghdad to escape that. Afterwards, she fled from Baghdad by train to Nasiriyah
to repeat her attempt again, but we telegraphed the station platform and they met her at the station
there for the purpose of going to the station. And she actually went with a group of her family and they received her
from the station by force and kept her in the house of her aunt named Sallouma Akla and she is still there
detained for twenty days. But she is still trying to escape from her family and go to this
Muslim man to change her religion and marry him.
It is clear from this that she has a desire to marry any person at all, and one of the delegates saw her
and agreed to that, but he wants four hundred dinars. Therefore, I have come with this my petition, hoping your Excellency
will take what you see fit regarding the matter for the purpose of averting this incident which may befall our family
as a result of this attempt.
Please accept the highest respect

His Excellency the President of the respected Jewish Community
After greetings
I am the mother of the accused Daniel Eliyahu, a resident of Basra. My son Daniel Eliyahu was accused
of possessing pistols, and upon conducting a search of his house, two pistols were found in his possession, so he was
arrested and brought before the Military Court Martial in Basra. The aforementioned court sentenced
my son to imprisonment with hard labor for life and three years to be served
concurrently, so the total sentence became (23) years. This case occurred
approximately two years ago, and he was sent to Baqubah Prison. From that time until now, we have not been able to
contact him despite the abolition of martial law. I tried to inquire in Basra about how to
contact him but did not get any result. Therefore, I decided to contact Your Excellency because of your
beloved personality, well-known reputation, and service to the members of your persecuted community.
Sir
I submit this letter of mine and beg for your sympathy and intervention in this case with the government
authorities in order to reduce his sentence.
I wish to inform you that the aforementioned is married and has children and a living wife, and he is also the one
supporting his elderly, disabled father and his mother, and his family is poor and in a state of misery and hardship
that I cannot describe to you.
Sir
I repeat what I mentioned and beg Your Excellency for your intervention in this case and to guide us to
any action we should take.
It is not hidden from your position that twenty-three years is an entire lifetime, and that this family
will inevitably die of hunger and be destroyed by poverty. They await your mercy through your intervention in their matter
because they have no breadwinner to sustain them and no one to protect them except God in heaven and your mercy on
earth.
Please accept my utmost thanks and great respect.

To the Honorable President of the Israelite Community
Baghdad
Greetings - The patient named Sion Israel
was previously suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. It has now been shown
that he has recovered from this disease. More accurately, the pulmonary
tuberculosis is inactive, and the patient currently needs
simple tonics such as cod liver oil paste.
However, with all regret, this patient does
not want to believe or listen to the instructions
that I provide to him. He insists that he is in need of
very expensive medicines that are usually used
in cases of active tuberculosis.
I submit this report to your Excellency based on
your order, accompanied by the X-ray report, and the matter is yours.
Sincerely,
