On Wednesday the 25th day of the month of Eloul in the

reckon here in the city of Baghdad situated on the river Tigris,
the Bridegroom the bachelor Mr. Albert Emil Wolfer appeared
before the Rabbis, let their honour remain for ever, and said to
his Bride ⟦the virgin Marcelle the daughter of the late⟧
in accordance with the law of Moses & Israel, I shall enter into
work, support, honour, cherish, maintain, provide and cloth you
as Jewish husbands who work, support, honour, cherish, maintain,
provide and cloth their wives, sincerely and honestly and I give
unto thee the dowry of thy virginity which is 25 silver Zuz which
I am liable to pay from my own side and in compliance with
our Torah Law, and will provide thee with food, clothing and thy
wants and I will cohabit with thee according to the customs of the
whole world. The Bride agreed and has become his wife; the
Bride-groom agreed and added from his own assets to the said
dowry the sum of Iraq Dinars ⟦one thousand five hundred⟧
of Iraq Dinars Two Thousand five hundred the dowry paid to him by
the Bride's father, plus Iraq Dinars five hundred for Wedding
Trousseau, so that the aggregate amount being Four Thousand Iraq
Dinars in the currency under circulation here in Baghdad which
under the reign of our Lord His Majesty the King Faisal II, and
has agreed to the above and admitted having received it and has
become under his disposal and accepted it upon himself as a debt
by way of loan. The Bride-groom has further stated before us
that the responsibility of the whole Wedding Contract, in accord-
ance with the payment of the principal dowry, the wedding Trousseau
and the additional sum along with the other conditions I take upon
myself and upon my heirs after me for the repayment from the
choicest of my property, possessions and money and whatever I
possess under the whole Heaven and from that which I have acquired
or may acquire in future. Both my movable and immovable properties
are all pledges and sureties for the repayment to be made therefrom
towards the claims of this Wedding Contract, including the original
dowry, the trousseau and the additional amount during my lifetime
and after me, even the cloth on my shoulders from this day and
for ever.
The Responsibilities and restrictions related to this
Wedding Contract the said Bridegroom has taken upon himself by
entering into obligation by a special symbolical form in full
faith and a strict oath with the consent of the Heavenly Tribunal
and with the consent of those who make true oath, with a view to
confirm and validate all that is written and specified herein
thereby cancelling all kinds of declarations in the world and dis-
qualifying testimonies thereto in accordance with the ordination
of our Grand Rabbi Addereth, may his memory endure in
the world to come. That this document is neither considered to be
a mere formula nor a blank document, but it is like all Wedding
Contracts in vogue among Israelite Community. Made as compiled
by our Sages of blessed memories and the whole is proper, clear
and valid.

Please be informed. I was met by the person in charge of guarding the factory who
works as a laborer in the Saleh Hindi brick factory and resides next to the old
Israelite cemetery, and he stated that both Habib and Allawi, the cemetery guards
who receive a monthly salary from the community fund for guarding the cemetery,
have removed the iron fence in the Karrada Triangle cemetery, consisting of forty
pieces, and sold them to blacksmiths for fifty dinars, and they are community property.
They also removed some of the windows placed in the cemetery room
adjacent to the ⟦Al-Balawi⟧ hospital and placed them in the location of the iron fence
which they sold. They also broke the ⟦shrine statue⟧ surrounding the grave of the late
Dr. Sassoon Khadduri and began using the aforementioned ⟦shrine⟧
for gambling.
Following this, I summoned Mr. Subhi Haddad
and asked him about the matter, and he confirmed the report of the person mentioned above.

About two weeks ago, a person named Ali bin Hussein informed me, ⟦claiming⟧ that he is a worker in the brick factory belonging
to Mr. Saleh Hammoudi near the cemetery area, and he explained to me that the wall of the Jewish cemetery on Sheikh Omar Street is threatened with disappearance
as the windows of the iron fence belonging to the fortified and demolished cemetery are being emptied as a result of opening the connecting street in a basin between
Ghazi Street and Sheikh Omar Street.
I immediately contacted Mr. Haykou Adad, the person in charge of endowment affairs at the Jewish cemetery in Baghdad, inquiring about the truth of this
news, and he confirmed it with details regarding the behavior of the two mentioned guards. The accountant also visited the cemetery to investigate the mentioned windows which
were previously deposited with the two mentioned guards, and he found only about five windows. Upon his inquiry about the rest of the windows from
the two mentioned guards and from the respected head Mr. Shmoul Habib, they claimed that all the windows are present in scattered ruins in
the outskirts of the cemetery. After two days, Mr. Shmoul informed us that all the windows had been pulled near the room of the mentioned guard and requested they be inspected.
So I went accompanied by the accountant and the respected head Mr. Shmoul due to extreme necessity, and it was noticed that some windows had been collected
near the guard's room, some of which were broken, and the fortified cemetery, while the rest had been torn from the iron fence of the large cemetery. It was also noticed
that the cemetery is in a state of neglect for a large community, as many trespassers live next to it on the cemetery grounds; some of them store dates
in some of its parts, some use it for drying animal waste, and some steal soil from inside it. Therefore, we objected to
the Ministry that the community spent last year 250/- Dinars to bury the remaining debris in the mentioned cemetery, and it was also officially
determined that some people frequent the cemetery at night under the guise of guards to gamble and engage in some reprehensible acts.
Upon explaining the matter to Your Excellency and to the Vice President, you ordered our presence and the necessity of informing the police of the situation to take
the necessary measures for the ongoing matters in the cemetery and to deter the two mentioned guards from the above actions. So I contacted the Assistant Police Chief of Bani Said
and he explained to me in person that he had once contacted us to expel the two mentioned guards due to the many complaints received about the two
mentioned guards from the residents of the area.
We replied with a letter at the time under number 88 dated 20 / 8 / 1951 to the mentioned area assistant regarding the necessity of conducting the necessary
investigations and taking appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. On 22 / 7 / 1951, the officer of Bani Said station contacted me
stating that both of the mentioned guards had been detained and requested the accountant and the person in charge of endowment affairs be sent to testify. We decided that we
went on the mentioned day and a written statement was prepared by us for the Public Prosecutor above; however, the person in charge of endowment affairs, Mr. Haykou
Adad, refused to attend the police station despite our multiple summons due to hints from some of the mentioned persons
they have; however, the officer of Bani Said station summoned him on Monday, 23 / 7 / 1951, but he refused to confirm what was recorded in our letter
addressed to the Assistant Police of Bani Said, which caused the station officer to be frustrated with him and he asked me to attend again for an estimated inspection of the cemetery.
Indeed, I went to the cemetery accompanied by the officer of Abu Saifayn station with the person in charge of endowment affairs, Mr. Haykou Adad. During this visit of ours,
we saw a lorry truck transporting soil from the inside illegally, and they claimed they were transporting soil with the provision of the two mentioned guards. We also found traces of
deep excavations inside the cemetery to dig up soil recently in the same spot that was buried by the community about
last year again. The storage areas surrounding some graves appeared as if they were open. It was also noticed that the iron fence connecting
to the cemetery from the side of the railway appears to affect the cemetery due to the lack of usual visits for their regular duty and maintenance, as was decided.

Held on August 5, 950
The General Assembly of the Alliance Alumni Club in Baghdad held an (extraordinary) meeting at
seven o'clock on the evening of Saturday, August 5, 950, at the Al-Taraf Club square in Al-Alwiyah, after failing to achieve
a quorum for the aforementioned meeting on July 22, 950. Twenty-two members attended.
In view of the resignation of President Flora Hay and her travel to the United States, and the absence of Vice President
Yaqub Bulbul, the General Assembly elected member Dr. Ezra Nissan to chair the general meeting.
The minutes of the previous (extraordinary) general meeting held on June 3, 1950,
signed by President Flora Hay, were read. Since there were no objections, the temporary president announced
its approval. Then the Treasurer and Acting Secretary, Salim Khabbaza, came forward and explained to the members that the club
had reached a state where it could not continue, as seen by the committee and supported by the General Assembly in its decision taken
on June 3, 950, to dissolve the club. The Treasurer explained that the members who lent
the club money to complete its building are still demanding from the club amounts totaling 545 Dinars, and these, unfortunately,
cannot be repaid. The committee tried to pay part of the debt that the club borrowed
under a promissory note, whereby the creditor accepted part of the club's furniture in exchange for a discount of one hundred Dinars from the original
note of 250 Dinars. There is a portion of the furniture still remaining for you to decide upon as you see fit. However,
what remains of it is not enough to cover any significant portion of the club's liabilities. As for the club's assets, they are as follows:-

in Baghdad to decide which charitable entity to hand them over to, according to the provisions of Article 22 of
the club's internal bylaws, and to deposit the club's papers and records at the headquarters of the Community Presidency.

concerning the income tax due from Mr. Ibrahim Shaul Shaker, we are honored to inform you that the Jewish Community
has ceased managing its affairs since March 17, 1951. According to the Jewish Community Law
No. 36 of 1951, the (Liquidation Committee) has replaced the Presidency of the Jewish Community (A)
of Article 3 of the aforementioned law, and since your letter No. 552 dated April 6, 1952, was addressed
to the Presidency of the Jewish Community while the Liquidation Committee is the one that replaced it, and since Article
17 of the Jewish Community Law No. 36 of 1951 stipulated that (all financial and administrative obligations
of the Jewish Community shall be liquidated by the Liquidation Committee), and since the income tax
due from Mr. Ibrahim Shaul Shaker is among the financial obligations incurred by the Jewish Community
Community, and since the Liquidation Committee has commenced its work since March 17, 1951,
therefore, we kindly request you to address your letter to the Liquidation Committee instead of the Presidency of the Jewish Community
so that we may take the necessary measures to pay the mentioned tax amount. Note that the Liquidation
Committee has paid the income tax amounts due for the employees and staff of the Jewish Community
up to March 17, 1951, according to official receipts issued by your esteemed department.
Enclosed is a list of the names of the employees and staff for whom the tax has been paid.
As for Mr. Ibrahim Shaul Shaker, the Liquidation Committee will pay the tax amount
due from him as soon as your letter addressed to the Liquidation Committee is received, and since Article
7 of the Jewish Community Law No. 36 of 1951 stipulated that (no amount of the Community's funds may be spent
except with the approval of the Liquidation Committee), therefore, we kindly request you to instruct those concerned
to provide us with an official letter addressed to the Liquidation Committee including the tax amount due from Mr.
Ibrahim Shaul Shaker so that we may disburse it in accordance with the procedures and the law.

This sad letter is written to you by a girl whom God has made miserable with a grave
misfortune, which is the imprisonment of her brother for a period of 5 years.
Sir. All I ask of you is mercy, compassion, and kindness for a
lonely stranger who has no relatives or family in Baghdad, as
everyone has emigrated, and in addition to that, he is crippled. I swear
to you by all the sanctities on the face of the earth that this prisoner is
as innocent as the wolf was of the blood of Jacob's son, and that he is the only one
among all the defendants in this case whose name was not found
in any record whatsoever, and that his case is nothing but a case of mistaken
identity only. But as you know, he is a lonely stranger who has no
parent, guardian, or helper to appoint a lawyer to defend him or
to request his acquittal, and thus he was ⟦correctly⟧ sent to prison for a period of
5 years of hard labor. And now I kneel before you
