The Jewish Spiritual Council in Baghdad replied in letter No. 1153 dated 3 August 942 as follows: -
Mr. Ibrahim Hardoon appeared before the Spiritual Council and presented the marriage contract stating that Simha
Eliyahu Mthir and their son Nahum Reuben Nahum are indebted to his wife Hanina daughter of Reuben Nahum for an amount of
twenty-five thousand current piasters on account of the dowry, and his wife shall collect it from their shares of the houses known
by their boundaries from the side of the house belonging to the heirs of Yehoshua Ezra Obadiah and the side of the house belonging to Eli Menachem Hay
Suleiman Menachem Daniel and the side of the house belonging to Eli Menachem Hay Saleh Menachem Daniel and the side of a mosque
and the side of the public road. The aforementioned Ibrahim requested a translation of the marriage contract, and since the husband
the aforementioned Ibrahim, has no legal right to claim these amounts because the two aforementioned debtors died before his creditor wife,
it was decided not to give him a literal translation of the marriage contract.

marriage contract issued by the Spiritual Council in Baghdad, with a dowry of twenty-five thousand
piastres, which equals 58.594 Iraqi Dinars; and during the aforementioned contract, they registered the house
located in the Taht al-Takiya neighborhood, number ⟦16/1⟧, in lieu of the amount paid to the husband according
to the current custom, and the aforementioned house was registered in the husband's name for the said dowry; and on the date of 24
November 941, my wife passed away, and I approached the Spiritual Council for a translation of the
aforementioned contract paper to obtain my right from that aforementioned house, and for a period of two months they have been stalling me
regarding that in order to defraud my rights, since the deceased has daughters, etc. Their intention is this, to defraud
my rights. Therefore, I have come with this ⟦petition⟧ of mine, imploring Your Excellency to issue the order to the Spiritual
Council for the translation of the aforementioned contract paper so that I may be able to ⟦obtain⟧ obtain
my rights and approach the competent courts regarding that before time runs out.

The Jewish Religious Court in Baghdad has responded to the content of the petition
stating that the aforementioned Yusuf Salman Muallim has filed a lawsuit against his wife in the said court
requesting her obedience to him. On the day of the hearing, the defendant appeared accompanied by her brother, the named
Sassoon Qattan, in his capacity as her legal representative. For valid reasons held by the court, it
refused to accept the aforementioned person in the hearing and requested the defendant to appoint someone else. However,
the aforementioned Sassoon was overcome with anger and uttered inappropriate words toward the court, then took
the defendant and left the court. The Religious Court continued to hear the case
according to the procedures and notified the aforementioned woman that if she does not obey her husband, she will be considered recalcitrant.
