To the attention of His Eminence, the respected Chief of the Jewish Community, the Hakham Bashi
After offering the respects due to your Eminence's position, I hope you will look upon this letter of mine with an eye of kindness
and justice regarding the following:
Two Jewish individuals named Yaqub and Ishaq, sons of Shlomo Saleh Musallam, residents of the Qanbar Ali neighborhood,
house number 70/113, had asked me to rent them a typewriter for a monthly fee of three
dinars. They wrote a document for me to that effect; however, they paid the rent for a few months and refused to pay the rest
of the rent for nearly two years. I approached the courts and obtained default judgments for fifty dinars.
They did not object, nor did they attend the trial, and they went into hiding. I was unable to bring them to the Execution Department, so I was forced to search
for them myself in Baghdad. Every day for a year, I have been paying one hundred and fifty fils traveling around the capital
for car fares, but I have not found them. Therefore, I ask Your Eminence to mediate with them, either to have them appear at the
Execution Department to settle the case according to the law, or for you to obtain my rights from them by returning the typewriter and its rent,
given the influence Your Eminence has over them. I am tired of wandering and spending money on top of my lost rights.
I did nothing but a favor for them, which was for me to benefit from the rent and for them to benefit from the typewriter for earning a living. Now,
the typewriter, the rent, and the labor are lost, and I remain tormented while they hide from the face of justice. I ask for justice, and I
know that Your Eminence is the source of reform. Note that they sold the typewriter for a price exceeding
what was specified in the document. Please accept my utmost respect and appreciation.
Sincerely,

The Great Prince Abdul Ilah
A natural, authentic greatness adorned by humility
And humility crowned by dignity and majesty
And tenderness emanating from a great heart
And kindness indicative of noble lineage and lofty, ancient glory
⟦line⟧
This is the image that is imprinted in my imagination whenever I have the honor of standing before him and have been granted a sublime meeting with him.
And this is the impression left in my soul by the personality of the master of the youth of this noble nation, the descendant of the lush
Hashemite family tree, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Ilah, Regent of the Throne of Iraq and the Great Crown Prince.
⟦line⟧
Whenever I enter his royal thresholds, I feel the awe of kingship haunting me and the prestige of the Sultan surrounding me and taking hold of my soul.
And the hour I am granted the sublime meeting, I greet His Highness while I am captivated by the majesty of the Great Protector of the Throne and the prestige of the beloved Prince
of the country.
But my fear soon returns to calm as I witness the noble hand extending toward me in a handshake and the smile strengthening
my resolve in welcome, and the sublime kindness overwhelming me, and the royal care refreshing my soul and taking over my feelings.
⟦line⟧
This is the Highness of our beloved Prince with his Arab democracy, his Hashemite traits, and his royal advantages.
It is no wonder then that our hearts shine with loyalty and our souls are filled with sincerity for the faithful Protector of the Throne and the vigilant Guardian of the Nation
over its interests, keen on its comfort, shepherd of its affairs, jealous for its unity and the agreement of its word.
And it is no innovation if we see the Iraqi people, to a man, seeking refuge in their beloved Prince whenever calamities darken
and rushing to their faithful Regent whenever conditions reach a crisis, for they always find him meeting the expectations of his loyal people, who are reassured
by his knowledge in conducting affairs, relying on his wisdom in managing matters, confident in His Highness's sincerity and his understanding
of the nation's aspirations and his sympathy for its hopes and rightful demands.
For in the person of our beloved Prince, the zeal of his grandfather Al-Hussein, the Great Savior, and his firmness, and the wisdom
of his father Ali and his democracy, and the diplomacy of his uncle Faisal, our first monarch, and his foresight in managing the affairs of the Kingdom have all gathered.
He is our successful ambassador in foreign lands and our eloquent tongue in political forums. He excels in expressing
our national aspirations. He is proficient in declaring our national hopes. Above all that, he is keen on the Constitution in which
the sovereignty of the nation, the entity of the nation, and the unity of the nation are represented.
And it is one of the blessings of the Creator, Almighty, upon the blessed Iraqi homeland that His Majesty our
young King "Faisal II," the redeemed, has the likes of the faithful Regent raising him on his sublime constitutional democratic principles.

To the one in whom I have placed my hopes and made a means to save me from my misery and wretchedness
Greetings and respect
The situation that has become the most important thing in our corrupt society, where neither knowledge
nor science nor competencies are of any use; for he who has no intermediary has no hope, and he who has no hope has become one of the most
tormented and miserable of people.
If I had known that the result of my school life would be in this state, I would not have wasted my days, I
and more than that, and that what happened only happened as a result of the badness of this result, which is fatal unemployment.
If the matter were limited to me, it would have been easier, but how bitter is the case of this poor family consisting of ⟦illegible⟧
and a father who cannot even obtain his own sustenance.
I was only able to obtain the secondary school certificate with great difficulty
due to my father's condition and the matter of obtaining the requirements for long study. But I was
stronger than my peers except for hope, the hope of today after tomorrow with the hope of completing this effort I exerted
in obtaining this certificate called the secondary school certificate.
All my hopes went with the wind after I entered the battlefield of life and found that
this wonder is a society where knowledge and competencies are of no use, a society that recognizes only intermediaries
and bribes.
I began submitting my application for employment and taking mock exams, but all my effort went
with the wind, for how can I, the wretched one, hope to obtain a job when this one's uncle is so-and-so and that one's maternal uncle is so-and-so.
We knocked on all doors but we were without an answer, and finally we received a reply saying: Can you
work for 8 Dinars? So I agreed without hesitation or thought, and thus I became an employee in the project
which is in Al-Fadhul, and I was in truth lower than everyone, far from my family and my birthplace like
men, I do not know where I drink nor my night from my day, and my Lord willed that my
troubles would not end with this affliction, so I fell ill and was forced to resign out of necessity and I became
suffering from unemployment a second time.
Finally, I was able with great difficulty to get a job at the electricity company with a salary of 8 Dinars
where I work 10 hours a day and I do not leave the office except that there remains in ⟦illegible⟧

My respected master, I present to your Excellency that I was an employee
And based on personal motives, I was referred to retirement
My strength for work faded during the service period until I became unsuitable
I retired and received a gratuity of 200 Dinars
And I sold all my house furniture until the amount reached 400
Dinars, and I worked with it in various professions such as
Trade, but I did not succeed due to the lack of profits and the large
Number of my family members, totaling twelve people
Most of them are minor children and they are unable to
Work in any job, and since I am the only one responsible
After God for their livelihood, and there is no other
Resource to rely on except my work, and due to
The exhaustion of my capital mentioned above, I have become
For more than a year, suffering the most severe
Pains of destitution, hunger, and nakedness with my children
I worked in various professions in a brick factory as a worker, a bad job that cost me the most difficult of its matters
With very cheap equipment, but the treatment of these workers who only rejected my work, but rather forced him
By fate into a profession of no less than six Dinars, but I lost it also for a month, but my illness is not
Possible for me to perform any work, so I came seeking mercy from your Excellency, my generous master, O generosity of God
And in you, my master, my client of kindness and mercy, and perhaps you are more aware of the tenderness in your hearts
For the eyes of God are with you, and what your generous hand bestows is final, and with God your reward is not lost
I was previously of self-respect and nothing remained but these old papers, I did not come forward with your acquittal
Your Excellency and your policy with what you legislated without others, and therefore based on what I know of your generosity and sweetness
Your esteemed opinion, so between this and that, know that I am from your sight, and perhaps you are in the chest
As I respect this secret sign of mine from the folds of my heart, my Lord the Lord, and I ask God to prolong your life
And protect your children and make you, my master, in the two abodes, the abode of this world and the abode of the hereafter, for God is All-Hearing, All-Generous

To His Excellency and Sovereignty Rabbi Sassoon
Khedhouri, the Respected
After kissing your noble hands
First, I congratulate you on the happy holiday and ask God that
it returns to you every year while you are well, along with all
our brothers, the Children of Israel. Amen, O Lord, Amen.
My Lord, before this I submitted a letter to Your Excellency and presented
my condition to Your Excellency and requested, first from God and second
from Your Excellency, to extend a hand of assistance with whatever your
generous hand may grant.
Until now, I have not seen any reply of any kind.
My Lord, generosity is from God and not from the servant of God.
Your Excellency may not know, so if God does not want to
⟦have mercy⟧ on us, there is no objection to God's command. Therefore, I beg for
the return of the ⟦photograph⟧ only. In closing, I kiss your
generous hand, my respected Lord.
It seems to me that the grievance is true and the necessary assistance should be carried out mostly.
His faithful servant
