We have been informed about the meeting that took place last Friday in the courtyard of Al-Kadhimiya. Some of our Jewish brothers imposed themselves on the meeting, a matter that is unfamiliar and contrary to current custom, which is not allowing non-Muslims to enter the courtyard, just as non-Jews are not allowed to enter the Holy Torah. Had the people known of the presence of a youth who was a non-Muslim, something with undesirable consequences would have occurred, and who would be responsible then? After the gathering dispersed and their names appeared, it became clear that there were those from other sects in the courtyard, a matter that agitated, provoked, and angered the people. So please, in all frankness, Head of the Community, issue your order to these people not to return to such a matter. Let your dealings, O ⟦Sovereign⟧, be with those who brought them to the courtyard, wanting to sow discord among the sons of the nation. None of this is hidden from your Eminence. ⟦illegible⟧ His Eminence Rabbi Sasson Khadduri ⟦illegible⟧ the respected Greetings and respect Your Eminence, I approach you with prayer ⟦illegible⟧ for your ⟦illegible⟧ stances and your virtuous character and your great merit and your help to the poor ⟦illegible⟧ who ⟦illegible⟧ from injustice and aggression which was committed by the lawyer ⟦illegible⟧ who deceived me and trapped me in this calamity of which I am innocent as innocent as the wolf is of the blood of Jacob's son, and here is the text of the incident We are two poor men who bought a piece of land with its appurtenances from one of the oppressors named Khader Effendi in the year 942 for the sum of ⟦illegible⟧ we paid the commitment amount, we deducted from the amount one hundred and ten dinars as a deposit with the lawyer for the transaction formally and the transfer of the plot. The aforementioned person requested from us a wrong line of action on the condition that we write this amount for him in his notebook as a trust (we write as a trust to Khader one hundred and ten dinars when we receive our land) and we did not sign the paper. And after completing the arrangement, Zaid alerted our claimant to return the trust, so we requested likewise ⟦illegible⟧ the paper and we signed it, he replied that the notebook was lost from me, so we made for him ⟦illegible⟧ we gave a receipt for the amount He answered us (I have indeed received the trust that you have amounting to one hundred and ten dinars, and by God I stood ⟦illegible⟧ and he went and lawsuits were filed against him, so his properties were seized by and he went bankrupt to the point where he owned nothing, so he imposed falsehood upon us and began to think about our signatures in his notebook And we learned finally that the oppressor wrote above to the lawyer Isaac Levy on ⟦illegible⟧ the success of this amount ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ so he filed the lawsuit against us on the date of ⟦illegible⟧ and we were notified to attend by the court of ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ receiving the amount, as the true copy which we had signed in his notebook ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ and the deposit, and it was not paid as is the case in Kadru So we searched the paper we have and found the receipt for the same amount dated ⟦illegible⟧ so we informed of this false lawsuit and we were put in the hands of the lawyer Isaac, and I learned that because Isaac Levy is the agent of the plaintiff Khader, so I confronted the lawyer Isaac and spoke with him that this lawsuit so why does he proceed with such lawsuits? He was surprised that I had paid the amount, so I said yes. He said, do you have a receipt from my client? I said yes. He said bring the receipt so I can see it. I refused to show the receipt until ⟦illegible⟧ And he swore to me by God the Great and by his honor that I will help you if you have a receipt for the amount, so I trusted him and I showed him the receipt. After reading it, he began to think about the matter, so he asked me to raise to his client one hundred dinars and he would drop the lawsuit. I said I did not pay since I am not indebted to this man until we faced the judge, and Ishaq requested the postponement of the lawsuit to another time. And as you know, we are poor people and we do not have at all times the writing of this lawsuit, and we appointed the lawyer Hassan Abdel Karim for it. And we learned finally that in taking Isaac Levy's notebook with a forged date, he makes it in the notebook as if it were signed in it and the same ⟦illegible⟧ the amount we paid, he placed a forged date ⟦illegible⟧ contrary to the date of the receipt which is between us, and the receipt of this thing until he set us for a second hearing and Isaac Levy presented the receipt to the judge ⟦illegible⟧ The judge, this is between us, and the judge did not match the two dates, he found them different, so the judge rejected it based on this date is not the date of the receipt. At that point, by their confession, I believed at the time, knowing that this is not the completion of what we signed, we denied that. So Isaac requested from the judge the authorities ⟦illegible⟧ the criminal police and examined the paper in the Swedish [office] for a period of ⟦illegible⟧ and they ruled that the words do not belong to the mentioned owner Abi Shalabi and they ruled against my signature ⟦illegible⟧ Walid ⟦illegible⟧ with the execution of ⟦illegible⟧ shame with the judgment minutes ⟦illegible⟧
⟦illegible⟧ Have you looked at the sky? It has been filled with hundreds of stars that ⟦illegible⟧ And what is religion but the feeling of God and understanding the meaning of life. We ⟦illegible⟧ And here we are drinking and dying as long as we almost leave traces ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ today we feel that we have become ⟦illegible⟧ So why do we not bring our hearts closer so that we may live as members of one family? We were created to live for love ⟦illegible⟧ and not to live to be hostile because we live a life ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ what we have lost of beauty and today for life ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ the eighteenth or the thirtieth with money of happiness since I ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ unless the only voice in it is the singer. ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ life ⟦illegible⟧ completely and its desires ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ the real. And it is not in our power that our Lord is a flood ⟦illegible⟧ ⟦illegible⟧ all the pains of life. I came to Iran and stayed there for a while, and then I came to Baghdad in the year 1925 and remained here in Baghdad due to the difficulty of travel and the war. I am staying in Baghdad and working for the Jewish goldsmith, Siegal. I do not think of traveling to another place because I have become at the heart of my Jewish brothers. Since I am a young man and wish to marry to complete half of my religion and the voice of (the Torah), I have come to you with this petition of mine, imploring the matter by granting me the certificate according to the regulations so that I may be able to marry here.
