Where a candidate has entered for both Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics but has not been awarded an Advanced level pass in both subjects, an alternative Advanced level pass in Mathematics (Pure and Applied) may be given if the performance in Papers 1 and 3 reaches the required standard.
There are no oral tests in the languages at this level except for certain schools in West Africa. For candidates from these schools there are two grades in French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Modern Hebrew.
