(Continuation of instructions regarding final examinations)
11 - When the grader finishes grading all the booklets for each subject, they shall return them to the administration after
recording the grades in their private grade book and on their grade card with their signature.
12 - The administration will announce the full results to the students on Friday, 6/22/62,
immediately after the end of the examinations. Therefore, teachers are requested to begin grading
immediately after the examination of each subject so that the administration can record the grades day by day
during the examination week in the official registers. Any negligence in completing the grading
will be considered a failure in the performance of duty.
13 - The administration expects the teachers (male and female) to be keen on keeping the results of the
examinations confidential from students and from any person unrelated to the examination subject before the results are announced
to the students by the administration, and not to allow any person to interfere or mediate in helping
any student (male or female) without merit.
14 - Teachers (male and female) and lecturers are requested to organize the annual plan such that
it includes what each teacher taught during the academic year regarding the materials of various subjects
and listing the names of the books they taught from. If there are prescribed books, it is sufficient to mention the numbers
of the pages that were taught. If there are new books the teacher recommends using for the next
⟦academic⟧ year, please list their names along with the classes for which their use is suggested, provided that
this information is submitted before Tuesday, 6/12/1962, as a final deadline.
15 - Please submit the final examination questions and the make-up examination questions (with their solutions by order of the Ministry of Education)
for the fourth preparatory grade before Thursday, 5/17/1962. Also, please submit the final
examination questions and make-up questions for the other grades (also with their solutions) before Tuesday,
6/5/1962, provided they are in one copy if the teacher decides to print them by Roneo
and in three copies if they decide otherwise. Each question paper should be titled with the grade, subject, date
of the exam, and exam time, as was arranged in the mid-year exam.
16 - The administration is ready to provide every teacher or lecturer with Roneo paper and Stencils
if they ⟦wish⟧ to print the questions. They must personally type the questions on the wax paper
(stencil), supervise the printing, and burn the drafts, as the administration wishes for the
responsibility of printing the questions to rest solely on the teacher.
17 - The final examination schedule will be posted in the teachers' room; please review it immediately
and provide any remarks requested by the teachers in this regard so that the schedule can be fixed and made
final as soon as possible.
18 - Please note the schedule for make-up examinations, which will begin on Sunday, September 9
next, 1962, and end on Sunday the 16th of the same month. The next academic year will begin
⟦on⟧ Tuesday, 10/23/1962.

A storm
The black clouds, driven by a terrible wind,
arrived, following one another, crowding,
jostling, pushing each other like a flock of frightened
sheep and when they were upon us the hail began to
fall with a great noise...
"Poor people: we are lost!" cried <u>the</u>
<u>women</u>; and they began to weep and lament.
Now the storm was in full force over the village; the
hail fell as large as <u>pigeon</u> eggs, and even
more so. The tiles of the houses flew into pieces; the
leaves of the trees fell <u>en masse</u> and disappeared,
carried away by the wind ...
This lasted a quarter of an hour. The broken tiles
let the water pass into the attic and, through the
badly joined floor, it rained on the tables, on the beds,
everywhere, but no one paid attention: everyone was thinking
of their wheat which was lost.
When it was over, we went out, and all the people of the
village too. In the meadows the grass was under the mud. The
vines and trees were shredded, the gardens ransacked. And
from all sides one heard the cries of the women and their
exclamations.

Instructions regarding the mid-year exam and first semester grades
Teachers and lecturers are kindly requested to note the following and act accordingly:
First - Submitting the average grades for the second quarter of the academic year (i.e., the average for December and January)
and the average grades for the first half of the current academic year during the week ending on
Friday, 1/12/1962, provided that this is not delayed beyond Sunday, 1/14/1962
so that the administration can record these grades in the school registers and grade cards and distribute them
to the students before the mid-year exam.
Second - The mid-year exam begins on Sunday, February 4, 1962, and ends at the end of Monday,
2/12/1962, as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, followed by a one-day holiday
which is Tuesday, 2/13/1962. Accordingly, studies will resume after the holiday on the morning of
Wednesday, 2/14/1962. The three days immediately preceding the mid-year exams are allocated
for conducting oral exams for classes that require these exams, or for reviewing
various subjects in a general review, or for finishing a subject that the teacher had not finished before.
Third - Oral exams are conducted in Arabic, English, French, and Religion for all classes
as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, provided that each teacher informs the students of this one week
before the oral exam. Teachers who examine students during regular school days,
if it happens and is necessary, are requested to conduct their oral exams during the lesson
allocated to them without taking the examined student out of the classroom and without affecting the progress
of daily teaching in terms of order.
Fourth - The mid-year exam schedule has been posted in the teachers' room. Please review it immediately and contact
the administration to provide any observations requested by the teachers in this regard to finalize the schedule and make it
final before Monday, 1/22/1962.
Fifth - The administration is ready to provide every lecturer with Roneo paper and Stencil
if they wish to print the questions. They must type the questions on the typewriter or write them
by hand on the Stencil paper and supervise their printing and burn the drafts, as the administration wishes
to limit the responsibility of printing the questions to the teacher.
Sixth - Please submit the mid-year exam questions to the administration before Wednesday, 1/24/1962,
in one copy only if the teacher decides to print them by Roneo, and in three copies if they decide otherwise, provided that
the writing of the questions is very clear, and a separate question sheet is placed for each subject and each class separately.
Each question sheet shall be titled according to the arrangement shown below according to the language used
in the questions, provided that the phrase (Frank Iny School) is replaced with the phrase (Shamash Secondary School) if the
exam is for students of the fourth and fifth secondary classes.

Frank Iny School and Shamash Preparatory School
Academic Year 1961 / 1962
Regarding the Mid-Year Exam, February 1962
Teachers and lecturers are kindly requested to note the following and act accordingly:
1- Please keep the exam booklets after they have been graded by the teacher in the same envelope
in which they were kept when distributed to the students at the time of the exam, after arranging them according to
the students' serial numbers indicated in the name lists of each class to facilitate reference to them when needed.
2- Keep at least one copy of the exam questions with the booklets for reference when necessary.
3- When grading the exam booklet, the grader shall list the marks for the various questions on the outer cover
of the exam booklet, while also writing the marks for the oral components of the subject on it, and adding these marks
to one another so that the final grade (out of 100) is shown on the cover of the booklet.
4- Each teacher shall record the mid-year exam grades for the exam subject in their grade file and submit
the exam booklets and their grade file to the administration immediately after completing the grading.
5- Teachers are requested to grade the booklets day by day so that the deadline for submitting grades
for each subject is not delayed by more than one or two days. The administration hopes to complete the recording of grades
and give them to the students on the first day of resuming studies immediately after the mid-year exam.
That is, on Wednesday 14 / 2 / 1962.
6- Since it is intended to give the exam booklets to the students after they have been graded to review them and know
their mistakes and the marks they received for each question, please ensure the accuracy of
the final grade for each subject before recording it on the cover of the booklet.
7- When the teacher submits the exam booklets at the end of the exam for each subject, please verify their number
and record that on the envelope in which they are kept, and please also record the names of the students
who were absent on the envelope as well.
