A storm
The black clouds, driven by a terrible wind,
arrived, following one another, crowding, jostling,
pushing each other like a flock of frightened sheep
and when they were upon us the hail began to
fall with a great noise...
"Poor people: we are lost!" cried the
women; and they began to weep and lament.
Now the storm was in full force over the village; the
hail fell as large as pigeon eggs, and even
more so. The tiles of the houses flew into pieces; the
leaves of the trees fell in masses and disappeared,
carried away by the wind ...
This lasted a quarter of an hour. The broken tiles
let the water pass into the attic and, through the
badly joined floor, it rained on the tables, on the beds,
everywhere, but no one paid attention: everyone was thinking
of their wheat which was lost.
When it was over, we went out, and all the people of the
village too. In the meadows the grass was under the mud. The
vines and the trees were hacked, the gardens ransacked. And
from all sides one heard the cries of the women and their
exclamations.
According to E. Le Roy.

Academic Year 1961 / 1962
Instructions regarding the mid-year exam and first semester grades
Teachers and lecturers are kindly requested to note the following and act accordingly:
First - Submitting the average grades for the second quarter of the academic year (i.e., the average for December and January)
and the average grades for the first half of the current academic year during the week ending on
Friday, 1/12/1962, provided that this is not delayed beyond Sunday, 1/14/1962
so that the administration can record these grades in the school registers and grade cards and distribute them
to the students before the mid-year exam.
Second - The mid-year exam begins on Sunday, February 4, 1962, and ends at the end of Monday,
2/12/1962, as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, followed by a one-day holiday
which is Tuesday, 2/13/1962. Accordingly, studies will resume after the holiday on the morning of
Wednesday, 2/14/1962. The three days immediately preceding the mid-year exams are allocated
for conducting oral exams for classes that require these exams, or for reviewing
various subjects in a general review, or for finishing a subject that the teacher had not finished before.
Third - Oral exams are conducted in Arabic, English, French, and Religion for all classes
as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, provided that each teacher informs the students of this one week
before the oral exam. Teachers who examine students during regular school days,
if it happens and is necessary, are requested to conduct their oral exams during the lesson
allocated to them without taking the examined student out of the classroom and without affecting the progress
of daily teaching in terms of order.
Fourth - The mid-year exam schedule has been posted in the teachers' room. Please review it immediately and contact
the administration to provide any observations requested by the teachers in this regard to finalize the schedule and make it
final before Monday, 1/22/1962.
Fifth - The administration is ready to provide every lecturer with Roneo paper and Stencil
if they wish to print the questions. They must type the questions on the typewriter or write them
by hand on the Stencil paper and supervise their printing and burn the drafts, as the administration wishes
to limit the responsibility of printing the questions to the teacher.
Sixth - Please submit the mid-year exam questions to the administration before Wednesday, 1/24/1962,
in one copy only if the teacher decides to print them by Roneo, and in three copies if they decide otherwise, provided that
the writing of the questions is very clear, and a separate question sheet is placed for each subject and each class separately.
Each question sheet shall be titled according to the arrangement shown below according to the language used
in the questions, provided that the phrase (Frank Iny School) is replaced with the phrase (Shamash Secondary School) if the
exam is for students of the fourth and fifth secondary classes.

Frank Iny School and Shamash Secondary School
Student Registration for the Academic Year 1961 / 1962
The administration of Frank Iny and Shamash schools announces that student registration will take place during the period
starting Thursday, September 21, 1961, and ending Sunday, September 24 thereof.
Therefore, all new and returning students must proceed to register during this period while taking into account
the following:
First - The school administration cannot guarantee places for students who are late in their registration
beyond this date, whether they are new or returning students.
Second - Any student who is late for registration by the date scheduled above will be deprived of tuition fee exemptions,
whether their exemption last year was total or partial.
Third - Upon registration, the student pays the first installment of the prescribed tuition fees in addition
to the extracurricular activity fees as usual.
Fourth - Any student who is late in paying the first installment of the tuition fees beyond the registration date
specified above (i.e., Sunday, September 24, 1961) without compelling reasons that convince
the administration, shall be obliged to pay an additional amount over their prescribed school fees,
provided they are accepted into this school after the aforementioned registration date.
Fifth - Every student who wishes to join the first intermediate grade in all its branches or the
fourth preparatory grade must bring three copies of their photograph with a fifty-fils

and the full address of the residence and the guardian's place of work. The same applies to every
new student wishing to join any other grade.
Sixth - Any student wishing to subscribe to the student transport buses must pay,
in addition to their school fees, an amount of four dinars as a first installment if their

the knowledge that the school administration will not be responsible for making the necessary arrangements for the student's
transportation means if they are late in paying the bus fees after the registration period ends.
Seventh - If a student is late for registration within the date specified by the Ministry of Education, they will not be
accepted into the school after that date at all.
