Academic Year 60/1961
Instructions regarding the mid-year exam and first semester grades
Teachers and lecturers are requested to note the following and act accordingly:
First - Submit the average grades for the second quarter of the academic year (i.e., the average for December and January)
and the average grades for the first half of the current academic year during the week ending on
Friday, ⟦13⟧/1/1961, provided that this is not delayed beyond Sunday, 15/1/1961, so that
the administration can record these grades in the school registers and grade cards and distribute them to
the students before the mid-year exam.
Second - The mid-year exam begins on Sunday, February 5, 1961, and ends at the close of Monday,
13/2/1961, as announced in the mid-year exam schedule, followed by a one-day holiday, which is
Tuesday, 14/2/1961. Accordingly, studies will resume after the holiday on the morning of Wednesday,
15/2/1961. The three days immediately preceding the mid-year exams are allocated
for conducting oral exams for classes that require these exams, or for reviewing various
subjects in a general review, or for finishing a subject that the teacher had not completed before.
Third - Oral exams are conducted in Arabic, English, French, and Religion for all classes as
announced in the mid-year exam schedule, provided that each teacher informs the students of this a week
before the oral exam. Teachers who examine students during regular school days,
if it happens and is necessary, are requested to conduct their oral exams during the
lesson allocated to them without removing the examined student from the class and without affecting the flow of daily
teaching in terms of order.
Fourth - The mid-year exam schedule has been posted in the teachers' room; please review it immediately and contact the administration
to provide any observations requested by the teachers in this regard to finalize the schedule and make it final before
Monday, 23/1/1961.
Fifth - The administration is ready to provide every teacher or lecturer with stencil paper
if they wish to print the questions. They must type the questions on the typewriter or write them by hand on
the stencil paper, supervise the printing, and burn the drafts, as the administration wishes to limit
the responsibility for printing the questions to the teacher.
Sixth - Please submit the mid-year exam questions to the administration before Wednesday, 25/1/1961,
in one copy only if the teacher decides to print them by stencil, and in three copies if they decide otherwise, provided that
the writing of the questions is very clear, and a separate question sheet is placed for each subject and each class individually.
Each question sheet should be titled according to the arrangement shown below according to the language used
in the questions, starting with the phrase (Frank Iny School) or the phrase (Shamash Secondary School) if the
exam is for students of the fourth or fifth secondary grade.

Instructions regarding final exams and other school matters
To the teachers and lecturers
Please note the following:
1- Final exams for the fourth preparatory grade begin on Monday 29 / 5 / 1961 and end
on Sunday, 4 / 6 / 1961.
2- Final exams for all other intermediate and primary grades begin on
Wednesday, 14 / 6 / 1961 and end on Thursday, 22 / 6 / 1961,
and the school will be closed on Tuesday 13 / 6 / 1961, which is the day immediately preceding
the final exams.
3- All oral exams for the intermediate grades will be held on Sunday and Monday,
June 11 and 12, 1961, immediately before the final exams.
4- Proctors in the exams are requested to keep the envelope (the envelope in which the exam
booklets are given at the start of the exams) and keep all the examinees' booklets with the extra copies
of the questions in this envelope and deliver them to the administration after counting them upon completion of
the exam or proctoring.
5- The administration expects every proctor to pay full attention in monitoring the students ⟦and thwarting⟧ every attempt
at cheating that may be carried out by students accustomed to such attempts.
6- The Teachers' Council will meet on Tuesday 13 / 6 / 1961 at ten o'clock
in the morning to discuss school matters in general and exam matters in particular.
7- Grading of final exam booklets will take place day by day from the start of the exams inside
the school in the teachers' room and the administration room. Members of the teaching staff are requested to remain in
the school every day after finishing proctoring to begin grading the exam booklets,
each in their subject. Teachers are also requested, after grading them, to deliver them to the administration before opening them,
as opening them in the teachers' room is not consistent with the confidentiality of grades. Please also keep at least one copy
of the exam questions and their solutions with the booklets for reference when necessary.
8- Grading times each day will be from ten-thirty in the morning until
one-thirty in the afternoon. Then from five in the afternoon until ten
at night. Grading can be carried out at times other than these each day by agreement with the administration.
9- The grader receives the booklets from the administration each time and returns them all to the administration after
completing the grading of some or all of them.
10- The grades for each question are to be placed separately on the cover of the booklet, with the grades for the oral components
of the subject written on it as well, and these grades added together so that the final grade
(out of 100) is shown on the cover of the booklet.

(Continuation of instructions regarding final examinations)
11 — When the corrector finishes correcting all the booklets for each subject, they return them to the administration after
recording the grades in their own grade book and in their grade file along with their signature.
12 — The administration will announce the full results to the students on Friday, 6/23/1961,
i.e., immediately after the end of the examinations. Therefore, teachers are requested to begin correcting
immediately after the examination of each subject is conducted so that the administration can record the grades day by day
during the examination week in the official registers. Any laxity in completing the correction will be considered negligence
in the performance of duty.
13 — The administration expects the teachers (female and male) to be keen on keeping the examination results secret
from students and from any person who has no connection to the subject of the examination before the results are announced to the students by
the administration, and not to allow any person to interfere or mediate in helping any male or female student
without merit.
14 — Teachers (female and male) are requested to organize the annual plan so that it includes
what each teacher taught during the school year of the materials of various subjects
and to list the names of the books they taught from. However, if there are prescribed books, it is sufficient to mention the numbers
of the pages that were taught. If there are new books the teacher recommends using for the school year
next, please list their names along with the classes for which their use is suggested, provided that this
information is submitted before Tuesday, 6/13/1961, as a final deadline.
15 — Please submit the final examination questions and the make-up questions (with their solutions by order of the Ministry of Education)
for the fourth preparatory grade before Thursday, 5/11/1961. Also, please submit the questions for
the final examinations and make-up questions for other classes (also with their solutions) before Tuesday,
6/6/1961, provided they are in one copy if the teacher decides to print them by Roneo, and in three
copies if decided otherwise. Each question paper should be titled in terms of class, subject, date of examination, and time of
examination as was arranged in the mid-year examination.
16 — The administration is ready to provide every teacher or lecturer with Roneo paper and stencils (Stencil)
if they wish to print the questions. They must personally print the questions on the wax paper (stencil)
and supervise their printing and burn the drafts, as the administration wishes the responsibility for printing the questions to be confined to
the teacher.
17 — The final examination schedule will be announced in the teachers' room, so please review it immediately and provide
the observations requested by the teachers in this regard so that the schedule can be fixed and made final
as soon as possible.
18 — Please note the schedule for make-up examinations which will begin on Friday, September 1
next, 1961, and end on Sunday, the 15th of it. The next school year will begin
on Thursday, 10/5/1961.

the final exams.
3 - All oral exams for intermediate grades will be held on Sunday and Monday,
June 11 and 12, 1961, immediately before the final exams.

of the questions in this envelope and deliver them to the administration after counting them upon completion of
the exam or proctoring.
5 - The administration expects every proctor to pay full attention to monitoring the students and to thwart every attempt
at cheating that may be carried out by students accustomed to such attempts.
6 - The Teachers' Council will meet on Tuesday 13 / 6 / 1961 at ten o'clock
in the morning to discuss school matters in general and exam matters in particular.
7 - Final exam booklets will be corrected day by day from the start of the exams inside
the school in the teachers' room and the administration room; members of the teaching staff are requested to remain in
the school every day after finishing proctoring to begin correcting the exam booklets,
each in their subject. Teachers are also requested, after correcting them, to deliver them to the administration before opening them,

(Continuation of instructions regarding final exams)
11 — When the examiner finishes grading all the booklets for each subject, they shall return them to the administration after
recording the grades in their private grade book and in their grade file along with their signature.
12 — The administration will announce the full results to the students on Friday, June 23, 1961,
immediately after the end of the exams. Therefore, teachers are requested to begin grading
immediately after the exam for each subject is conducted, so that the administration can record the grades day by day
during the exam week in the official registers. Any negligence in completing the grading will be considered a failure
to perform one's duty.
13 — The administration expects the teachers (male and female) to be keen on keeping the exam results confidential
from students and from any person unrelated to the exam subject before the results are announced to the students by
the administration, and not to allow any person to interfere or mediate in helping any male or female student
without merit.
14 — Teachers (male and female) and lecturers are requested to organize the annual plan so that it includes
what each teacher taught during the school year in various subjects,
and to list the names of the books they taught from. If there are prescribed books, it is sufficient to mention the page
numbers that were taught. If there are new books the teacher recommends using for the next school year,
please list their names along with the classes for which they are recommended, provided that this information
is submitted before Tuesday, June 13, 1961, as a final deadline.
15 — Please submit the final exam questions and the make-up exam questions (with their solutions by order of the Ministry of Education)
for the fourth preparatory grade before Thursday, May 11, 1961. Also, please submit the final
exam questions and make-up exam questions for other grades (also with their solutions) before Tuesday,
June 6, 1961, in one copy if the teacher decides to print them by Roneo, and in three
copies if the teacher decides otherwise. Each question paper should be labeled with the grade, subject, exam date, and exam
time, as was arranged in the mid-year exam.
16 — The administration is ready to provide every teacher or lecturer with Roneo paper and stencils
if they wish to print the questions. They must personally type the questions on the wax paper (stencil),
supervise the printing, and burn the drafts, as the administration wishes the responsibility for printing the questions to rest
solely on the teacher.
17 — The final exam schedule will be posted in the teachers' room. Please review it immediately and provide
any remarks requested by the teachers in this regard so that the schedule can be finalized and made permanent
as soon as possible.
18 — Please note the schedule for make-up exams, which will begin on Friday, September 1
next (1961) and end on Sunday the 10th of the same month. The next school year will begin
