UNIVERSITY OF LONDON GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION EXAMINA Advanced Level At this level grades A, B, C, D and E are grades of pass in descending order of merit, reading from left to right, and grade F denotes failure. Grade O at this level indicates a compensatory Ordinary level pass. An 'X' indicates absence from the examination in a subject. 'Z' indicates that a script has been received in answer to questions set on a subject, syllabus or option other than the one for which you entered, and no result is given. In Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Zoology two grades will appear. The first represents the grade obtained in the subject as a whole including the practical test.
