PRIZE CONTESTS
The English Bulletin Committee have decided to make two article-
contests for the secondary and the intermediate students with the help
of the Headmaster. Following are the regulations:
1. The articles must be of the student's own work.
2. Each contribution must be accompanied by an entry fee of 50 fils.
Contributors may hand in more than one article.
3. The subject must be of general interest.
4. A prize will be given for the best article from the intermediate
classes, and another will be given to the best article from the
secondary classes. Each prize will be six months subscription ⟦in⟧
in the weekly magazine "Picture Show".
5. The article must be of not less than 200 words and not more than 350
words for the intermediate classes, and not less than 300 words and
not more than 500 words for the secondary classes.
6. What remains of the proceeds will be given to the Students' Helping
Committee.
7. The last date for accepting contributions is the 11th of April. 1954.

Merit Awards in Cash
The following paragraph has been added to the conditions for granting merit awards.
Merit awards are granted, in addition to the cases listed in the other conditions:
(a) To the student who ranks second in his class in general exams and school exams when
the one who preceded him as first in his class is among those who repeated their studies during that year.
(b) To the student who ranks second in the results of general exams for special studies such as the Brevet,
the Certificat, and the Lower Cambridge exam,
etc... if the one who preceded him as first participated in these exams after the passage of
one academic year beyond the academic year prescribed for taking each of these exams, and he is considered
at that time as a repeated first. The first student who takes any of these exams after the passage
of more than one year beyond the year prescribed for taking them is not entitled to the award.
(c) The prescribed year for taking the Lower Cambridge exam is considered the end of the second year
of intermediate study. The prescribed year for taking the Certificat exam is considered
the end of the first year of intermediate study, and the prescribed year for taking the Brevet exam is considered
the end of the third year of intermediate study. The prescribed year for taking the G.C.E. exam is considered
the end of the fourth year of preparatory study.
