The grades awarded are to be interpreted as follows: Grades A, B, C, D, E and O at Ordinary level and A, B, C, D and E at Advanced level are grades of pass in descending order of merit. Grade O at Advanced level shows a compensatory Ordinary level pass. Grade F (Advanced level) and F, G, H (Ordinary level) denote failure. An 'X' indicates absence from the examination in a subject. In French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish two grades are given. The first represents the result obtained in the subject as a whole including the oral test.
