The book represents probably the largest worldwide biographi- cal compilation, and is designed to serve as an accurate and im- portant reference work for news- papers, colleges and universities, public and private libraries, gov- ernment departments, embassies, etc. The 1946 Edition of the BIO- GRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE WORLD contained some 20,000 biographical sketches, ac- companied by 3,000 photographs.
