Our Dear Brothers
It is clear to you from the statement presented that most of the sums received from the relatives of the deceased
did not cover 25% or 30% of the amounts borne and spent by the Association on them, especially due to
the rise in the prices of necessities such as linen (which is only imported from Turkey), cotton, and soap
and other things beyond what they were before. Moreover, the Association has never previously demanded
payment for these costs at the time of death, but rather carries out all preparations and leaves the claim for costs until days after
the incident to assist the families during the confusion that prevails in those critical moments.
The Association, in performing these humanitarian acts, requires a group of employees, workers,
and drivers to manage its affairs and conduct its business in the required manner, costing it expenditures
of approximately 75 Dinars per month, in addition to the repairs, maintenance, and fuel the vehicle needs,
as well as other expenses for the car that the Association was forced to acquire some time ago to assist
the first one when it is busy elsewhere, given the expansion of residential areas and their extension to long distances
from the Association's headquarters, or when the first car suffers any defect that causes it to stop
working during its repair. The Association has taken the house numbered 17M / 141 located on
Al-Tawrat Street (Ghazi Street) as a center for its operations and obtained a telephone set to facilitate contact with it at number
3456. Furthermore, the Association deemed it necessary to have a responsible person to answer
telephone calls received during the night when any death occurs, so it decided to appoint an employee to perform this
task throughout the night, in addition to the previous employee whose task is now limited to answering telephone
calls during the day only. Thus, it has become possible to inform the Association by telephone of any death at
any time whatsoever without interruption.
It is not hidden from you that if the Association's revenues continue in this weak manner,
it will face formidable obstacles that will be difficult to overcome, and thus it will weaken bit by bit until
it vanishes and the unfortunate situation returns to what it was before. To the honorable members of the community who
possess zeal, the Association directs its call to lend it their attention and assistance so that it can continue
its humanitarian work and fulfill its mission in the most perfect manner.

A statement to the children of our beloved community
Duty has dictated that we inform the members of the community about
the Hebra Kadisha Society, which has taken upon itself the management
of the preparation and burial services, to eliminate the problems that
confronted community members before its formation. We present the
following statement so that community members may understand how the
Society is managed and its financial conditions from its formation until
this day, so that every individual of the community feels he can oversee it
to gain a general idea that encourages him to submit his suggestions
in service of the public interest. The Society welcomes at any time
and season acting upon suggestions it deems beneficial without
delay, whether in writing or orally.
Why was the Society formed?
The Society was formed based on the desires of many members of
the community, as the arrangements for their deceased were entrusted
exclusively to the hands of a person who acted for his own account with these arrangements
as he pleased, and the occurrence of complaints arising from the actions
of the aforementioned person. Thus, the Lay Council, which
was under the presidency of the late Naim Bey Zilkha in the year 927,
wanted to remove the injustice from the beloved community and save it
from the tyranny of those trifling with it. Numerous sessions were held
and discussions took place with the Chief Rabbi, H. Sassoon Khedhouri, and the rest of the
rabbis, as the matter pertained to religious affairs. Finally, an
agreement was reached to form this Society, and it was officially formed.

By the certification of the exalted Ministry of Interior and for the benefit of the
community, this association has accepted to participate in what is
obligatory upon it, and upon starting its work, it saw fit
to outline for itself a program which it divided into four categories.
First - Preparing and shrouding the poor with everything necessary.
Second - " " " the needy and assisting them as much as
possible, even if they pay half the price or less.
Third - Preparing and shrouding paid to the association according to what was spent
on them, without increase or decrease.
Fourth - Preparing and shrouding paid to the association from people of generosity
to cover the deficit for the poor and the needy as stated
in the first and second articles.
With the knowledge that the association used to proceed with the work and complete
what is required for preparation and shrouding, and did not demand from the relatives
of the deceased any amount at the time of death, but rather used to send
one of its employees a few days after the death to pay what
they are able to and what they deem appropriate.
It is no secret that the amount donated by the wealthy person from
among the generous people hardly suffices to cover what is spent on the
poor and the needy of the first and second categories because the
deaths in these two categories were numerous, i.e., ninety
percent, and this is what made the association's fund in continuous deficit.
The association presents the account of the receipts it collected from
the relatives of the deceased for the public to review so that they may
judge what we have narrated of the case and help as much as possible.

That the ⟦.⟧ association, upon its formation, saw extensive facilities
and superior assistance from those ⟦.⟧ surrounded, as they used to pay with
compassion, and if they were of the first and second class, on the grounds that
their deceased must be finished from the existing entertainment, and by this ⟦.⟧ means
the association was able, in a period of five years, to obtain a surplus in
its fund, and indeed it obtained that and purchased from this
surplus a piece of land next to the ⟦.⟧ cemetery and two villas, and also 132 shares
from the Qadu orchard, and also a shop, and spent large sums on the
cemetery when the ⟦.⟧ government began opening Sa'dun ⟦.⟧ Street, and it assisted
with total assistance the relatives of the ⟦.⟧ deceased from the members of the ⟦.⟧ community
according to the ⟦.⟧ records kept by the association, but, oh, to the
regret, in the recent years these ⟦.⟧ assistances have increased and the
association encountered problems, and for this reason the fund of the association has become
continuously decreasing, and that is for the following reasons:
First — that the fourth class has ⟦illegible⟧ the victory from paying more
than the assignment.
Second — that the second and third class started paying only twenty
or thirty in proportion to the assignment.
Third — that the first class ( ⟦.⟧ poor ) has become not paying anything.
So it appears from what preceded that the ⟦.⟧ mentioned ⟦.⟧ mistakes have reduced
the revenues of the ⟦.⟧ association, and if it continues in this ⟦.⟧ form, the
association will become, God forbid, ⟦.⟧ exposed to disappearance and ⟦.⟧ the matter which
removes the purpose for which this association was formed.
And the association believes that no one who is jealous for the
interest of the community would be satisfied with that, and let every individual know that this association
has no source except the donations and generosity of the members of the ⟦.⟧ beloved
community, and let it also be known that the thing which is taken in excess is spent
on its side, and to obtain information, we list the following number of the

It is not hidden that in the last 6 days, the residence has spread
in the suburbs of the capital, so they became far from the center, i.e., in
(Al-Adhamiya, Al-Karrada, Karradat Maryam, Ma'mun, and Al-Arfali). And when
deaths occur in these areas, the Association and the relatives of the
deceased face great difficulties and total delays as a result of
preparing the necessary requirements for the deceased, and that is for reasons of
the lack of transport means under the management of the Association, and the lack of knowledge of
the relatives of the deceased of the Association's center to inform it of the matter so that
it may perform the duties incumbent upon it. For this, to remove the difficulties
and establish facilities, it thought of preparing the following means:
1 — Buying a private car for the Association to transport the deceased
from his temporary place to his permanent place.
2 — Buying a second car to transport the tools and requirements
with the workers with the possible speed to remove the delays.
3 — Allocating a house to be a center for the Association to stand upon
its place and installing a telephone line to take the necessary
information to bring the workers.
And a house has been bought on Ghazi Street and made a center for its work,
except that the deficit of its fund does not allow it to buy the cars
which are among the necessary requirements for its work as
previously mentioned. Despite this, it will buy cars in installments until
it obtains the Association's assistance regarding the payment of installments.
And our hope is firm that no individual will delay in assisting it in that
for the progress of the Association with the details presented above to inform
the members of the community of its works and its financial situation
and what it intends of reforms, and at the same time it awaits relief.

So he extended a helping hand to it and encouraged it in its mission
so that this charitable project remains firm and established on a
solid foundation, and it awaits assistance from the generous sons
of its community to be able to pay the car installments and complete its deficiencies.
And whoever comes forward and participates with assistance, history shall record for him
