Conflict between Madame "Mao" and Madame "Liu" in Red Guard posters!
With the intensification of the Cultural Revolution in China, two new figures have emerged on the scene: Madame Mao and Madame Liu, the wife of the Head of State. The former, famous for the latter, has publicly turned against her in Red Guard posters, accusing her—and her spouse—of having a bourgeois outlook. But the battle has not yet ended with the victory of the Mao group; the Liu group is still strong and entrenched in fortified positions!
Mao, Zhou Enlai, and Madame Sun Yat-sen: The battle has moved to the shoulders of the ladies this time
Madame Liu: Considered a traitorous enemy to Mao's ideas
Madame Mao: A film actress who enjoys roles, and now it is the role of Madame "Liu"
The men stepped away from the stage of the "Cultural Revolution," so the ladies stepped forward to occupy it!
The personal competition for the head of the Red Guard has disappeared. It seems that Madame Mao is currently facing a counter-attack; Madame Mao had suddenly jumped into the political spotlight and delivered a speech to boisterous mass meetings in which she launched an attack on her husband's political enemies—her latest demand is the arrest of all those enemies.
Loudspeakers belonging to the guards echoed her demands throughout the capital, while "Red Guard" newspapers published excerpts from her statements describing Madame Liu and her spouse as a "group of rotten people." The same newspaper described Madame Liu as "the number one leading artist."
Bourgeois Outlook
Red Guard posters and slogans called to "open fire against Madame Liu" and demanded an end to her criticism until the end. Some posters said, "We are walking on the path of counter-revolution" and that she has a "bourgeois outlook!"
In contrast to Madame Liu, Madame Mao was politically active before the "Cultural Revolution."
Mao had divorced his second wife, who accompanied him on the legendary Long March, in order to marry the blue artist. Then the former film actress from Shanghai launched a severe attack on "Rock and Roll, Jazz, and the art of stripping," describing them as degradation and decadence aimed at poisoning and paralyzing the people's thoughts.
It is worth noting that the actress—Mao Zedong married "The Blue Apple," whose real name is Jiang Qing, in 1939. She was described as a smart girl who loves pleasure and fun and comes from a middle-class family.
Sukarno does not intend to retreat or disappear!
At a time when "rumors" dominate Jakarta that President Sukarno has reached an "understanding" with the leaders of the new regime providing for him to take a long trip abroad, the death sentence issued against former Air Marshal Omar Dani and the President's insistence that he is still the leader of the revolution and the people cast shadows of doubt on the real situation in Indonesia.
By: John Butler
Translated by: Al-Jumhuriya
From: The Observer
Sukarno and Suharto, a hidden war of nerves and an operation that requires seven political lives
Omar Dani to the gallows and the President to a long trip abroad
Dr. Sukarno is going abroad on a long trip. It was also announced that his favorite wife, Ratna Devi, of Japanese origin, will give birth to a child, and she has decided to give birth in Japan, which will take place next February.
Dr. Adam Malik, the Foreign Minister, said last week: "If we leave things as they are, our children will spread into the streets." Last week, young men were not only demonstrating in the streets, but selected groups of them were visiting—with the utmost publicity—every prominent figure, from the Attorney General to the Navy commanders, asking them for support so they could remove Dr. Sukarno from the presidential palace to the military court on charges of high treason.
The Power of Survival
These recent demonstrations were the result of a series of disappointments that culminated in the trial of former Air Marshal Omar Dani for his participation in the failed communist coup in October 1965. Dani did not say much that was unexpected or unknown, but he mentioned with no lack of clarity that Dr. Sukarno was collaborating with the coup.
Dani's testimony was like that of a loyal employee who carried out an ugly act for his superior because he was obeying the orders of the leader he believed in. But that did not save him, and he was sentenced to death on Christmas Eve. His lawyer said, "If my client is guilty, then the President is more guilty than him," and thousands applauded him.
Thus the fire traveled through the fuse and the dynamite exploded, and the Indonesian Bar Association, in cooperation with the judges, issued a joint statement that the evidence presented in the trial requires the trial of the President.
I will strike and I will strike!
Nevertheless, the power of resistance in "Brother" Sukarno remains effective. He has more than one political life. He took the opportunity of a breakfast banquet to meet with his friends and take pictures with groups of journalists at the presidential palace.
The British Proposal
- The Political Situation -
Britain supported another desire to handle the issue of stopping the Vietnam War and establishing peace after the government faced strong popular pressure calling on it to stop supporting the United States of America in its war policy. It inquired about submitting a proposal to hold a meeting between the concerned countries to discuss the effective means to establish peace. The United States government hastened to welcome the idea and confirmed that it is ready to participate in such a meeting wherever it is held and whenever it is decided, until many thought that Britain was the one who proposed it before presenting it to the American government and discussing it, which made North Vietnam consider it a maneuver or a trick intended to mislead world public opinion.

New life in the heart of the desert
By Salah Abdel Latif
In nine years, 50 thousand acres of sand turned into agricultural land
A picture of reality about the new life in Al-Tahrir Province
The largest grape farm in the Middle East, with an area of one hundred thousand acres
Starts its production after one year
On the desert road from Cairo to Alexandria, and at a distance of up to two hundred kilometers, you see a sight strange to the desert that did not exist before 1957. At kilometer 70, after you have traveled for about an hour and there is nothing around you but sand and the silence of the desert, you enter a green area of trees, fields, and houses that reaches beyond kilometer one hundred.. And in the middle of the road, you must slow down for some time, park your car next to the other cars whose owners are resting here to resume their journey.. And after you have had food or a drink sourced from the atmosphere of the same area where you do not feel the burning heat of summer, you must ask yourself, here it will introduce you to the good news..

The Minister of Defense Extends Invitations to the Two Ambassadors and My Son
To Attend the 46th Anniversary Celebrations of the Iraqi Army's Founding
"Al-Jumhuriya" has learned that Mr. President Abdul Rahman Muhammad Arif, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has written the foreword for the commemorative book to be issued by the Directorate of Moral Guidance at the Ministry of Defense on the occasion of the forty-sixth anniversary.
The foreword also includes the initiatives that guided the army's actions in liberating the homeland and achieving its full sovereignty, foremost among them the July 14 Revolution and other complementary revolutions.
The Moral Guidance Division, managed by Staff Colonel Faisal Sharhan Al-Urs, continues to issue various publications for this occasion, including Al-Jundi magazine, which we hope will be distributed so that its circulation is not limited to the armed forces, but works to spread it among all classes of the people.
"Al-Jumhuriya" also learned that Lieutenant General Hamoudi Mahdi, Chief of Staff of the Army, has extended an invitation to General Ali Ali Amer, Commander-in-Chief of the Unified Arab Command, to attend the army's founding anniversary celebrations.
Staff Major General Shaker Mahmoud Shukri, Minister of Defense, also sent a telegram to Al-Jumhuriya - that he extended an invitation to Mr. Ahmed Al-Shukeiri, Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and Major General Wajih Al-Madani, Commander of the Palestine Liberation Army, to visit Baghdad on the occasion of celebrating the forty-sixth anniversary of the army's founding.
The Foreign Exchange Directorate at the Central Bank Decides:
Limiting the amounts allowed to be transferred for travelers to 100 Dinars
Additional transfers are subject to the approval of the Exchange Administration and for necessary reasons
The Foreign Exchange Directorate at the Central Bank informed all banks of the decision to limit the amounts allowed to be transferred to Iraqi travelers to 100 Dinars per year instead of 150 Dinars. This arrangement was put into effect from the beginning of the current year.
The decision also stipulates the possibility of granting permits to transfer more than the amount of one hundred Dinars, provided that the traveler explains the health, scientific, commercial, and other necessities for which the increase in foreign transfer is required, which will be subject to the approval of the Foreign Exchange Administration.
It was learned that the transfer fees will not be affected and will remain at the rate specified for them previously.
It is worth mentioning that the Foreign Exchange Administration has taken several decisions in the last three years due to force majeure circumstances, reducing the amounts allowed to be transferred; in 1963 it was reduced from 300 to 150 Dinars, and the Central Bank imposed high rates of transfer fees for additional amounts.

Geniuses of Thought Program
His Excellency President Abdul Rahman Mohammed Arif, President of the Republic, yesterday received the Iraqi artist Mr. Abdul Jabbar Raji, a member of the Iraqi mission at the Technical Academy in Czechoslovakia, and was honored to accept a gift he presented of his own making, representing a complete tea set in an elegant silk-lined box.
The President praised Mr. Raji as a distinguished student and expressed his wishes for success in his artistic mission.
Mr. Raji appeared the day before yesterday on the "Art Horizons" program broadcast by the radio and television, explaining the craft he presented yesterday to the President.
In the interview, Mr. Raji called on the government to encourage art and missions that study artistic raw materials from stones foreign to Iraq, and emphasized that the Iraqi artist possesses the potential for success in this artistic industry.
The establishment of a porcelain factory was the subject of studies conducted during the years 1960-1961 in the Rashaq area in northern Iraq, which proved the existence of raw materials at a very good level.
It is worth noting that the President has formed a society of friends and the manufacture of porcelain tea inside and outside Iraq, all of which depict scenes from Iraq's ancient history such as winged bulls, the Obelisk, Babylon, and other antiquities that highlight Iraq's greatness. Mr. Raji, as an artist and technician in the industry and its development, must receive all attention and support from the specialized Iraqi departments.
"Al-Jumhuriya" has learned that Dr. Adnan Pachachi, the Foreign Minister, has received an invitation from the Hungarian government to visit Hungary.
The Minister had previously accepted an invitation to meet from Mr. Daoud, the former Sudanese minister, to visit the Soviet Union and two other countries for visits to other Arab and foreign countries.

The Iraqi Academy is preparing to arrange the paintings of the Iraqi artist Turki Abdul Amir in the hall of the Capital Secretariat.
It is known that Iraqi art has begun in recent years to go beyond the local horizon, and Iraqi artists have begun to contribute seriously to introducing Iraq through the art exhibitions they hold.

An artistic mission from the United Arab Republic is expected to arrive in Baghdad soon to direct part of the film currently being prepared to introduce the contribution of Arab civilization to humanity.
The hero director Hussein Ismail Reda and the director of photography Mr. Ali Hassan are participating in this film, which will be filmed in several countries, a journey to introduce the same in the Arab countries that contributed to building world civilization.

"Al-Jumhuriya" received a letter from the emigrant poet Mr. Adeeb Constantine, residing in Hungary, urging the strengthening of cultural ties between Arab expatriates and Arab countries.
He says that Arab governments have not provided anything significant to expatriates, especially contributing to the establishment of schools or cultural centers that connect the motherland and the Arab expatriate.
He has now been able to study the Prophet's biography in the English language to bind Arab expatriates in the diaspora.

"Al-Jumhuriya" has received many suggestions requesting the television administration to re-broadcast the three episodes of the "Geniuses of Thought" program presented by Mr. Kamil Al-Dabbagh.
There is no doubt that many either did not see the program or wish to watch it again.
Mr. Al-Dabbagh, who has appeared to the public during the past half-century, and it is very appropriate for the television to re-broadcast these recent episodes that dealt with Al-Zahawi on his upcoming anniversary on January 23.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. Al-Dabbagh made the television program a success and included new information about this personality who lived in Baghdad, Iraq, and the Arab countries, and whose place now feels empty.
These episodes raised many questions about Al-Zahawi's genius and ideas, and why these geniuses were not given their place, and why others did not have the same influence they had in our current life?
Trade talks concluded between Iraq
and the United Arab Republic
The meetings of the Joint Trade Committee emanating from the Council for Economic Coordination and Integration between Iraq and the United Arab Republic ended yesterday.
The committee made several recommendations to push the movement of trade exchange between the two brotherly countries to the maximum extent possible during the current year.
It was also agreed during the meeting on the goods to be exchanged that are in excess of local consumption needs in both countries. The most important goods that the United Arab Republic will export to Iraq are cotton and silk textiles of various types, while Iraq will export to the United Arab Republic dates, vegetable oils, tobacco, cigarettes, and iron scrap.
The members of the Arab side, headed by Mr. Khalid Hamdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy in the United Arab Republic, will leave Baghdad this Thursday evening.

Evening Films
The evening films shown by television are almost all old and have been shown in Baghdad cinemas for a not-so-short time. Why doesn't the television resort to showing new plays and series instead, if it is not possible to show new films?

Radio and Services
In the blessed month of Ramadan, radio program varieties increase. We have not heard anything from Baghdad Radio about this month, except for some broadcasts before Ramadan that are now being aired in these blessed nights. Even so, there is still plenty of time.

Radio Songs
Our radio programs include songs that do not suit the spirit of our listeners, but rather they are a habit still in its era. What I believe is that the fees received by poets are expected to become a burden in more than one printing press. Has the Radio House thought about increasing these allocations to truly raise the level of the Iraqi song?
Baghdad: Shafi Sha'bi
Radio Pillars
The radio resorts from time to time to delivering some "pillars" because its announcers did not find success in preparing them, or because they said and wrote everything they had, so there was nothing left to write. But why isn't the radio excused in that to the extent imagined by the radio pillars themselves, because there are artists in presenting ideas. If the radio cares about certain people, it does not mean that these pillars are the ones who exhausted all their ideas, but there are those more competent than the announcers who have not been given a place among the listeners and have not been noticed. But the radio came from announcers who present well in introducing people, opening doors for those who feel competent to present the pillar they seek, and thus we ensure permanent renewal in the radio.

Geniuses of Thought
The Geniuses of Thought program is a very successful program. On the other hand, we see that Baghdad Television has returned us to radio programs and we do not own a television. Did the radio write to transfer this pillar, or write it in a critical format for the radio? We hope this wish is fulfilled.
Baghdad: Teacher Mohammed Saeed Abdul Hamid
The School Pillar
The School Pillar needs more organization than it currently has, and students need to be encouraged to write and enter the horizons of culture. Perhaps the presenter of the pillar will pay attention to this aspect, to come out with a level for the pillar which is the pillar of all Iraqi students who hope we provide them with everything they benefit from.
Baghdad: Hussein Al-Fallahi

The poet Anwar Khalil - Amarah - The poem you sent, there is no room to publish it at the present time, because the doors of the Radio and Television Magazine have been closed, which will be issued starting next February 1st.
Abu Inaam - Baghdad - Your suggestion is impractical, and we must be sincere and not ask people to regret what they cannot provide.
Sami Suleiman - Baghdad - You should have contacted the radio directly without the need for a mediator, and the radio is marked for calls and notification about them.
Kadhim Abboud - Basra - The address you want, I have no knowledge of it. Write to Beirut Radio directly.
