His Excellency the Respected President of the Jewish Community
Presented to Your Excellency
Sir: I have taken up teaching at the Munshi Saleh Government School
And now I have entered the fifth year in the teaching profession at this same school
Your Great Excellency: The school certificate that I presented upon entering the school
is a graduation from intermediate studies and I am still until now receiving
a salary of six dinars (6 Dinars) and it does not satisfy the necessities of life
under these difficult economic conditions and what we, the community of
girls, suffer from the pains of life and the aches of poverty and need, and therefore what
I receive is not acceptable by reality.
I ask Your Excellency to pity my condition and extend a helping hand in any form
possible to increase this meager salary, and by this you would have performed a great
and noble humanitarian service, and please accept the highest respect.
Sir
Sincerely,
Sabiha Yusuf Darwish

Mr. Shaul Saleh Shlomo Daoud
The custodian of the Hadia Munshi Saleh School building for girls
After conducting an inspection of the school building mentioned above by
the Directorate of Buildings at the Ministry of Education, it appeared <del>⟦illegible⟧</del> that it needs the repairs listed
in the memorandum of the Directorate of Buildings, a copy of which is attached herewith. Therefore, we hope you will carry out what is necessary
of the repairs to the building, and please also consult with Messrs. Khedouri and Rubin
at its delivery that they have a responsibility from your side to carry out the necessary repairs to the property
belonging to them located under the upper floor rooms of the school building and the completion
of all repairs as quickly as possible due to the necessity of that.

With reference to the letter of the Directorate of Education of Baghdad Province No. 7297 dated 11/5/48
1 - After inspecting the building of the aforementioned school, it was found that one of the upper
floor rooms located at the rear of the building has cracked walls and even its floor,
which has made its occupation impossible, and it has actually been evacuated due to its danger.
<del>⟦...⟧</del> - Four rooms were built on the upper floor, and the majority of the floors of these rooms
are located on properties belonging to other people, and the properties of these people (shops and storehouses) have
had their arches cracked and their walls damaged, which leads to fear of their collapse, therefore
these arches, i.e., (the room floors), must be removed and the roofing re-done with steel beams
or wood, and this is at the expense of the building owners. As for the walls of the shops, they must be repaired
by the owners of the <del>house</del> property.
2 - There is a water station room located under the room mentioned above whose floors have cracked and
water has begun to leak into the foundations of the building. Keeping the water station in this spot affects
the building, therefore it must be removed and a station built adjacent to the toilets in the courtyard of the new
wing of the school, and the sewers and the sinkhole must be buried.
3 - The floor tiling of a room on the ground floor must be removed, filled with soil, and re-tiled.
4 - There are also other renovations in the old building such as gypsum plastering, cement salt, pointing, etc.
which the owners of the building can carry out.

We request you to warn Mr. Shaoul Saleh, the representative of the school owner, as we have previously warned him in two previous letters
but we have not received any answer so far, as he long evades every necessary procedure, which is yes, and dangerous to the lives
of hundreds of students. These four very dangerous classrooms, which we emptied weeks ago and seated
the students in the corridors under the mercy of the cold and rain due to the fall and collapse of the arch on which these rooms
rest from below, as the owners of the warehouses informed us of its condition. This is in addition to other dangers threatening the rest of
the classrooms, which shake under the students' feet, and rainwater falls on them throughout the winter days.
And these septic tanks in the school yard are full, making it impossible for the janitresses to wash the house, in addition to other
unhealthy matters and the grumbling of the teachers. I hope you do not neglect this issue because it is dangerous to
the lives of hundreds of students. Thank you.

His Excellency the President of the Lay Council, the respected
Religion
Mosaic
in Baghdad
After greetings
I would like to present to your Excellency the following regarding the Madya Munshi Salih School for Girls. We have been accustomed
in past years to employ in the staff of the aforementioned school three teachers for teaching the Hebrew language
provided that the teachers' salaries are paid from the revenues of the shops endowed for this school, considering that His Eminence the Head of the
Community is the trustee of this endowment. However, these shops' revenues were not sufficient for the teachers' salaries,
so we used to submit, before the end of the fiscal year, a budget of revenues and expenses to the family of the late Munshi Salih ⟦to obtain⟧
⟦approval⟧ and they would pay us. However, in this year, Mr. Shaul Salih Shlomo Daoud informed us of the impossibility of paying
the deficit this year and advised us to increase the rents of the shops. We were able to increase them for the tenants
by an amount of -/25 Dinars annually, but this amount was not enough to cover the deficit despite the efforts made. We informed
the Munshi Salih family of the matter, and they advised us to terminate the services of one teacher and keep two teachers in the school.
It is not hidden from your Excellency that the matter of terminating a teacher's services cannot be done without the approval of the venerable Ministry of Education.
Through the efforts made by His Eminence the Head of the Community, the services of one teacher were terminated and another was appointed in her place
by the Directorate of Education of the Baghdad Province, in the middle of the current fiscal year, i.e., at the end of the 46 / 47
academic year. Consequently, the deficit this year has reached the amount of 34/835 Dinars. We have repeatedly contacted the family
of the deceased, but they have not paid the amount until now and are insisting on not paying it. Given the approaching end of
the current month and the necessity of paying the salaries of the two teachers, I submit herewith a copy of the aforementioned budget, noting that this
deficit will not recur in the coming years after the termination of the services of one of the teachers.
In view of the above, I have come with this letter of mine, hoping you will kindly inform me on the matter, and please accept
respect.
