June 29th last.
The visit of H. Exc. The High Commissioner to our schools did not
involve any official ceremony and, in fact, no reception
was organized for this purpose. Sir Sassoon, whom I had seen beforehand,
had formally advised me against doing ⟦a⟧nything that would have
taken away from this visit its essentially educational character.
Messrs. Zlouf and Cohen had been invited before my interview with Sir
Sassoon and I am happy to see that your distinguished secretary,
Dr. Rosenfeld, was also among them in his dual capacity
as a member of the Central Committee and secretary of your Committee.
I am one of those who most highly appreciate the precious
collaboration of your Committee in our educational work and who
recognize its excellent results. I have never failed to
express my gratitude to you whenever the opportunity has
presented itself. And, you have had the opportunity to see that in our school
ceremonies, evenings, theatrical festivals or others, your Committee is the
first invited and that even among all our guests, it is reserved
a place of honor.
I therefore infinitely regret that you have taken as an offense
the fact that your Committee was not officially invited to attend
the visit of the High Commissioner.

I have the honor to request that you send us the amount of
your subsidy to the Aaron Saleh and Nouriel schools, namely Rs 3000, -
pertaining to the summer semester.
I have already written to the Consistory on this subject and I learn that
your Committee has been requested to make the remittance in question to us.
The Consistory has not made us any advance from its funds for these two schools this year
so far, despite my repeated requests, which means that the teachers have been
paid very irregularly and that there is currently a delay of more than two months
in the payment of their salaries.
I am therefore waiting impatiently for your payment to pay the
staff for the months of May and June.
<u>Theatrical performance</u>. A group of young people from our senior classes
are preparing to perform in public the Arabic translation of "Under the Linden Tree"
by Alphonse Karr. The performance, set for next August 8, will
take place at the Royal Cinema and, very probably, under the High Patronage of
His Highness the Regent. The students have agreed that it should be for the
benefit of the construction of the Nouriel school.
I therefore come to request that you appoint a small commission with a view to:

this school, my thanks as much as my personal gratitude
for the notable service that your Committee has rendered us by taking in hand
the reconstruction of these premises. Recalling the initial hostilities
to which your Committee found itself subjected, I am pleased to recognize
that this reconstruction is due to your obliging perseverance and
that without your Committee it might not have taken place.
I would have very much liked to proceed with an inauguration of these premises.
But one of the most active members of your Committee, Dr. Rosenfeld
is currently absent from Baghdad. I think it would be fair to adjourn
this ceremony until his arrival. Having shared in the hardship, it is
only right that he should share in the honor and that he should be, if necessary, along with
your Committee, the organizers of this ceremony.

Greetings and respect,
On the occasion of the election of your esteemed body, this committee offers its sincere congratulations to you and wishes that
the Almighty grants you success in what is good for the community and its progress.
This committee was formed for the first time about a year ago according to a regulation approved by the Council at the time, which
is undoubtedly among the papers of the respected Council. It has continued its work since its formation and was able to collect an amount of aid
according to the details shown in the attached copy of the account. It appears from this account that the public's response to the request of
this committee in this first year of its formation is something that calls for appreciation and warrants encouragement and hope for the future.
The committee carried out two basic tasks this year, which are: assisting the Nuriel School with an amount of six thousand
rupees and rebuilding this school:
This work forced it to borrow six thousand rupees from the respected Council, in addition to there being debts that must
be paid as soon as possible, and the building needs miscellaneous completions that are indispensable. The committee also reached out to
the late Tuwaiq Effendi to draw his attention to the interest of the schools, which resulted in a recommendation for an amount of 20,000 rupees, of which 15,000
are for the Rabbanim and 5,000 for building a section of the Nuriel School in his name. This matter is still in process and it is hoped
that this amount will be received in the not-too-distant future, deducting the equivalent of the ⟦building⟧ expenses of the school paid to this date.
At the beginning of the new year, the collection of aid for the year 1947 should begin. Since Article Three of
the regulation of this committee requires the renewal of its body every year on (Rosh Hashanah), we hope you will look into this matter and give
the decision to renew the body according to the regulation. The reason for not doing so from (Rosh Hashanah) until now was
the non-completion of the Nuriel School building at that time and the notification of the Lay Council for a period of time. We would like to draw
the attention of the respected Council so that this may be a matter of interest for the new committee and be ⟦among⟧ the first tasks it performs as

Based on the decision issued by the honorable Council regarding the distribution of the report received from the secretariat of the School Relief Committee
dated 8 ⟦December⟧ 946, I present the result of my audits as follows:
I have reviewed this report and the bylaws attached to this committee. The purpose of this committee's request is to renew
this committee on a permanent basis, which stipulates the replacement and renewal of the committee every year, and that the internal regulations
require the appointment of the committee by the designated Lay Council to collect and levy donations for the community's schools
with the approval of the Council. The director of this committee is Mr. Meir Suri, Secretary of Endowments, and its secretary is Dr.
Rosenfeld, and its members are the lawyers Yusuf Hafiz Bakr, Saleh Faraj Mutam, and my presence, thank you.
The work carried out by this committee in collecting donations and distributing them to our school students is nothing less than
something to be thanked for.
Since it is incumbent upon the honorable Council to provide internal regulations for it, and the members of the aforementioned committee wish
for it to be clear in these regulations, I suggest, if these regulations are attached, through
this committee, new actions and activity, and maintaining the committee for it to carry out what it has taken upon itself
voluntarily, and the interest in continuing to express our Council's appreciation for it. Please accept my utmost thanks.
