Shamash School Directorate
Reference to your letter No. 395 dated 5/3/1933
We did not find in our administration any official authorization for your administration to borrow this amount, except for a letter from
the former acting head of the community to the Alliance Schools Directorate asking them to borrow an amount of
40 Dinars for your administration, provided that you repay it from the fees. Since the Director of the Alliance
Schools did not fulfill the request, it has become obvious that the repayment of this amount, which
Ezra Effendi Haddad borrowed himself, should likewise be from the students' fees.

His Excellency the President of the Lay Council, Respected
After greetings: In response to your last letter, I am very sorry that you did not find an official authorization regarding
the payment of the promissory notes taken by ⟦Ezra⟧ Effendi Haddad. Allow me to remind you that in the letter
itself in which I mentioned the issue of the promissory notes, I also requested a portion of the amount to be paid in cash in order
to collect a proportional share equal to what the rest of the schools received through promissory notes. And
this request of mine was based on the words of the Head of the Community, the summary of which is "it is obvious that when paying
the schools' promissory notes, our school will be given a share proportional to the rest of the schools." And I was advised
at that time by those who have contact with His Excellency the Head of the Community to take promissory notes on my responsibility based
on the guarantee given by His Excellency the President in this regard, and I acted according to their advice.
And now, is it my fault if the previous school board did not take promissory notes like the other schools,
or if the previous school administration took promissory notes and did not officially inform you in this regard?
The undertaking of His Excellency the Head of the Community to pay my share in cash cannot be considered official now,
but do I not have a right in my logical request?
I hope to inform you, Your Excellency the President, that the school is in dire need of money because
the community's allocations were twenty-five Dinars less than they should have been. And this matter
allows me to request that you send the allocations for the month of April and that you do not consider that you
have already paid them. Based on the aforementioned reasons, I hope for the prompt sending of the amount of the promissory notes.
With highest thanks and much respect to Your Excellency,

To the Honorable President of the Lay Council
Greetings and respect,
It is not hidden from your esteemed council that there is a portion of the teachers' salaries
for the academic year 1920 / 1921 owed by our school administrations under the name "accumulated."
The previous Lay Council had pledged to pay them in specific installments according
to its letter No. 229 dated 6/18/1921, and this pledge was confirmed by
the former Acting Head of the Community in his letter No. 2060 dated December 9,
1921. Since the final installment of these salaries will be due on the 15th
of this month, we hope your esteemed council will kindly take the necessary action. With
utmost respect.

To the Honorable President of the Lay Council
Greetings and respect,
With reference to our joint letter No. 117 dated December 16,
1922, and with reference to the letter from the Community Presidency No. 2060 dated December 22,
1922, it was stated in the aforementioned letter that the Community Presidency undertakes to pay
our schools' monthly allocations at the end of each month and in a regular manner so that our school
administrations can pay one full salary at the end of each month, taking into account what was stated in the fourth clause,
meaning that two salaries remain in arrears throughout the current academic year.
Since the aforementioned Community Presidency did not pay us the monthly allocations at the beginning of May
stipulated in the budget, we hope your esteemed council will kindly pay us two full months' allocations
so that we can pay only one salary to each teacher who is requesting three full months' salaries
- excluding the accumulated salaries for the academic year 1921/20 mentioned in
the fifth clause of our aforementioned letter - especially during this season of holidays - Islamic
and Mosaic - and please accept our utmost respect.
