8. The Second Party undertakes to examine and
treat free of charge all the patients lying in
the wards of women and children diseases.
9. The Second Party undertakes to examine , free
of charge , all the poor outpatients of the
Jewish Community who come to the hospital daily
for medical examination .
10. The Second Party is entitled to pay medical
visits outside the hospital within the municipal
limit of Bagdad , on condition that the hospital's
ordinary work shall not suffer or be affected in
any way . All fees collected by the Second Party
from such visits remain in full with her and she
is not obliged to give any account about them to
the First Party .
11. The Second Party undertakes not to open a
private clinic or to work in any other private
clinic outside the hospital .
12. If either of the contracting Parties does
not wish to renew this Agreement on its normal
expiry , they should notify each other in writing
subject to a minimum of three months before the
expiry of this Agreement . In case no such notice
whatsoever will be given by either Party this
Agreement will hold good for an indefinite period
provided that either Party shall have the right
of its termination at any time he desires after
giving three mon ths notice in writing .
13. After the normal expiry of this Agreement and
if not renewed the First Party undertakes to pro-
vide the Second Party with a Second class through
passage from Bagdad to Grodno in Poland on condit-
ion that the Second Party shall leave the country
within two months from the date of the expiry of
the contract .
14. The First Party have the right to cancel this
Agreement without prior notice being given to the
Second Party and without any compensation whatso-
ever , if the Second Party becomes ill for a con-
secutive period of six months , provided that the
First Party shall pay the Second Party her salary
for the first three months only as laid down in
clause seven hereof and provided that the First
Party shall not pay the Second Party any salary
for the period running after the expiry of the
first three months . It is to be understood
however that the free passage to which the Second
Party is entitled to under clause thirteen of this
Agreement shall be paid to her if she leaves the
country within two months of her recovery .
15. The Second Party undertakes to comply with
all general administrative orders or instructions
issued to the medical staff by the First Party or
by any person representing it from time to time
for the proper management of the hospital .

16. If the Second Party fails to comply with the
terms of this Agreement or refuses to work without
a legal reason with the intention to annul this
Agreement she shall be liable to pay a compens-
ation of one hundred Iraq Dinars to the First Par-
ty , but if the failure is on the part of the
First Party the latter is bound also to pay to the
Second Party an amount of one hundred Iraq Dinars
as compensation .
17. As both the contracting Parties have willing-
ly come to this Agreement under the above ment-
ioned terms it was duly signed by both Parties ,
so that each may have a copy of same after its
confirmation by the Jewish Lay Council in accord-
ance with article nineteen of this Committee's
statute . It is also subject to confirmation by
the Directorate of Public Health .

Dear Sir,
I beg to request you that the arrangements which were in force before my getting the licence to be still valid and that the 25% proposed to be taken out of the income from the treatment of patients outside the Hospital to remain my sole property. The reasons set forth below will justify my statement:-
1. The Committee did not make it possible for me to work and earn from outside the Hospital nor did the Committee help in any way to get me the licence which I did obtain through my own and sole efforts.
2. According to previous arrangements between the Committee and myself, the Committee was to pay half the cost of the licence fee, which was not done and I paid the whole amount, out of my own pocket.
3. The salary which I am now getting, viz: I.Ds 10/000 per month is not worth to be called a salary fit for a Doctor, taking into consideration the strenuous work and such heavy responsibilities as devolving upon me day and night.
4. My work in the Hospital is gratuitous altogether as it is by the examination fees, deliveries, female operations, and the admission into the Hospital of private patients that come through me that the Hospital can meet its expenses and lay something by.

in order that the Hospitals Administration may be reimbursed of the
share payable to her out of these fees in accordance with paragraph

With reference to our verbal conversation I have to confirm
the following:-
1. I agree that after the expiry of my probationary period of six
months, I will serve as an in-patient Physician in the Meir Elias
Hospital for a further period of 2 years at a monthly pay of ten
'Iraq Dinars.
2. That I shall be paid half the fees collected by the Hospital
from paying in-or out-patients in respect of all female operations
and accouchements performed by me at the Hospital. It is understood
that all such fees are being fixed by the Hospital Committee alone.
3. That I shall be paid 75% of all fees collected from out-patients
for operations, accouchements, visits and treatments performed by me
outside the Hospital.

Draft conditions of agreement.
1. This agreement will come into force with effect from
15. 11. 939 for a period of six months at a monthly
salary of 5/- Iraq Dinars.
2. On the expiry of the period mentioned in clause 1 above
the Hospital's Committee keeps the option of renewing <ins>to extend</ins> the
agreement for a further period of two years.
3. The Hospital's Committee undertakes to allot free
accommodation inside the Hospital with free food
& the Doctor undertakes not to live <ins>in hospital place</ins> outside the Hospital.
X 4. The Doctor undertakes not to open any kind of Clinic
outside the Hospital.
5. The Hospital's Committee undertakes to pay half of the fees
collected <ins>from paying patients female</ins> in respect of all <ins>made</ins> operations & midwifery <del>at the</del>
<del>nursing home of the Hospital</del> <ins>performed by the doctor it</ins>. All such fees being fixed
by the Hospital's Committee above.
6. The Hospital committee undertakes to pay 75% of all fees
collected in respect of <ins>all (such as</ins> operations, midwifery <ins>fees</ins> work & visits <ins>fees</ins>
made to patients outside the Hospital. <ins>collected from patients treated inside the hosp. by the dr.</ins>
7. The Hospital Committee undertakes to pay half the fees
collected from paying out-patients who are to be treated
by the doctor
8. The Hospital Committee undertakes <del>of to pay</del> the Registration
fee payable to the Health Directorate, <del>the second</del> <ins>shall be paid</ins> half being paid
by the Doctor, <ins>& the other half by the H.C. provided</ins> on condition that the doctor undertakes to
remain in the <del>Committee terms</del> Hospital service for the
complete period of the agreement, & if ⟦illegible⟧
9. <ins>Either</ins> <del>Any</del> of the 2 parties who fails to comply with the conditions
of this agreement, is liable to pay to the second party a
compensation of 300/- Iraq Dinars.

I have to invite a reference to your letter
of the 12th Sept. 1933, in which you offer me an employment
at the Hospital.
You will note that your letter to me bears the
clear address of "Dr. Sonia Tokar" and the content thereof
clearly states that I was engaged to work as a Doctor;
whereas on my arrival in Baghdad since November last I was
given to understand that in view of certain formalities
I am unable to practice my profession freely here and my
work is officially limited to that of a nurse.
Needless to say that I was graduated as Doctor
in 1925 and have practiced my profession ever since.
In these circumstances I consider it a great misfortune
to me to be compelled to limit my work in the manner above
stated, this not only as regards my capacity as a Doctor,
but it would, I am sure, reflect badly on 1) my future,
2) the income that I expect to derive in practicing my
profession freely as I hoped.
I shall be very grateful therefore if you will
be kind enough to give my request, with regard to my
position as a Doctor your very serious and urgent consi-
deration. Let me have your answer in writing at an early
date, which I hope would be favourable.
If desired, I would very much like to interview
the Committee and discuss the matter.
